Almost unedited approach, landing and taxi-in at Mariscal Sucre International Airport ILS Z 36. I only took out a few short parts flying through the clouds.

Fantastic Video. This must be either KLM or Lufthansa, as they fly into Quito every day. I permanently moved to Ecuador the day the new Mariscal Sucre Airport opened. As you can see it was wide open territory. No more. The airport now has its own little city around it. And pilots no longer have to sit a jumbo jet down in the midst of skyscraper buildings and Volcan Pichincha. That old airport is now a park. The almost 10 year old airport has won all sorts of awards each year. I only hope it stop expanding, as it is one of the easiest airports to get around. And all those large white buildings you see from the air, that is Ecuador's plant trade. Ecuador is I believe the second biggest exporter of plants, mostly roses. In Ecuador, 2 dozen roses costs $1.50.. This airport also have several great restaurants. You will love our airport and our country. We have the nicest people in the World.

Quito's new airport is really nice and super clean, a great replacement for their old one in the middle of the city.

Kalamar Dejen la de ser xenófobos cada quien con su vida. Si es gay o no es su problema no les viene hacer nada. Sólo va a turistear y a dejar dólares algo que no entienden. Por eso países más desarrollados tienen más turistas porque no están con esas cosas. Saludos

No, these ravines throughout the valley are mostly formed by rivers and creeks, i. e. surface water.

@@estefanorevelo4660 Comentario bastante exagerado el viejo Mariscal Sucre si que era un aeropuerto complejo, se necesitaba un entrenaminto especial y riguroso para terrizar ahi, en cambio Tababela es un juego de niños se tendría que ser un muy mal piloto o tener mucha mala suerte para accidentarse en una pista de 4100 m con una altura de 2400 msnm

I honestly do not understand how they built this runway right on the edge of these cliffs and irregular terrain that can cause severe turbulence and unpredictable winds on final approach. It looks to me from the many videos I have watched of arrivals and approaches to this airport that there are areas in the vicinity with more flat terrain.

Because airport terrains can't be made wherever they want, actually I think they must asure the approach and takeoffs to and from the airport terrain.

As one of the construction personnel who supervised the building of this airport I can tell you that the constructors spent two years moving 200 BILLION cubic metres of material of the plateau where the airport is. It took a year prior to this to choose this spot. I enjoyed this video as I never had the chance to fly out or into this airport. Thank you for posting.

Ron: What aircraft and what in 'ILS Z 36' what is the 'Z'? Thanks!

The aircraft is a Boeing 777, if I recall correctly a -300. The ILS Z 36 is an RNP approach, an intermediate procedure to descend and bring the aicraft on the ILS final approach using the aircraft's own navigation systems and not with radar vectors. The 'Z' only means that there are more than one RNP approach based on the same beacon. So there is also an 'Y' approach to the same ILS.

Acantilado? Tababela es una especie de isla de 1400 hectares como el Galeao de Rio de Janeiro pero en medio de los Andes y el "acantilado" sirven como una barrera natural que protege al aeropuerto de los volcanes que rodean Quito.
