Approach and Landing on.Runway 12 at Dubrovnik airport (DBV/LDDU) in Croatia: Cockpit view. Airbus A320. Flight along the adriatic coastline with aerial views of several islands and cities. Several cities and islands are marked with names. Produced in 4k quality.
If the weather is good, approaches to Dubrovnik airport are always very nice because of the beautiful views to the coastline, the islands and the city of Dubrovnik.
If you approach from the north, you always pass the city of Dubrovnik prior landing.
The airport is located on a high plateau. Most of the approach to runway 12 is over water and on short final to the runway, the terrain is rising to 527 feet (161 meters).
Due to the approach over water and the high airport elevation, the airbus electronic landing checklist (ECAM landing memo) is available later than usually.
For planning purposes, the pilots usually plan for a 3 degree glidepath. If the surface during the approach has the same elevation as the runway, the following applies for a sea level airport: If the altimeter shows 1500 feet, you have to fly about 5 nautical miles until landing. During the approach to runway 12 in Dubrovnik, it is different: The radio altimeter and the barometric altimeter show 1500 feet and the remaining distance is only about 3 nautical miles because of the airport elevation of 527 feet. On the runway, the radio altimeter shows 0 and the barometric altimeter shows about 520 feet.
On the day the video was filmed, we had to fly a GPS-approach to runway 12. At the minimum descent altitude, the approach is continued visually until landing.
