Approach Notes train you to add coherent, cool, jazzy chromatic notes in to your lines
These specially crafted exercises familiarize the ear and fingers with the most logical and coherent chromatic approaches to the major scale preparing the player with the resources to fuse this powerful improvisational system on to whatever musical material, wether it be licks, scales, tunes etc.

These are great music lessons! It all applies to piano, guitar, trumpet, etc. You covered a LOT of material in under 9 minutes. Of course a lot of it was based on topics you have already covered, but still plenty to work on. And your comments on devising our own exercises and patterns are spot-on. Conservatory level stuff delivered free to my living room! Can't thank you enough!

Awesome video !!! Approach notes are everything in jazz especially if you want to sound interesting. Always suggesting what is coming up on the next chord more or less. Hal Garper talks a lot about rythmic and harmonic anticipation. It feels more lyrical than blowing on every first beat of the bar and/or chord. Thanks you

Hi, I'm really liking your lessons on the pentatonic Coltrane works. I bought the package on your webisteand it really added some nice colors in my lines. If I may ask what software do you use to edit your videos, like adding your annotations and comments , it's really great!
