Approaching Junctions UK Made Easy - Pass your driving test series

How you approach a junction is fundamental to how well it goes. Personally I dislike the traditional Mirror, Signal, Position, Speed, Look routine which is normally taught to UK learner drivers so I created my own routine: Mirrors, Signal, Speed, Gear, Decide. Find out why this routine is important and how it will help you improve your decision making skills as well as your ability to approach junctions comfortably.
This video is created by an experienced driving instructor, please subscribe to get my latest videos as I upload them to help you pass the UK Driving Test.
Here is my driving school's website:
www.conquerdriving.co.uk
This video is a guide intended to help people who are learning to drive with a driving instructor in the UK, it is by no means a replacement for driving lessons with an appropriately qualified driving instructor.

@@ConquerDriving hi why do u have to give gas in some cars before bringung to biting point?
@ConquerDriving
@ConquerDriving 4 жыл бұрын
You should give gas in all cars really. It's to do with the car's computer and how much help it gives you, if you don't give gas the computer has too. Best not rely on the computer when all cars are different and best learn the skill so you can drive all cars.

@@asavlogsalltruthrevealed7483 I have a little 2008 5 door Reno Clio so even on a flat surface I need revs to pull away. I can creep around very slowly with just the clutch but I have to be very careful or it will stall. However in my instructors car (a ford focus st or something like that) I can pull away with just the clutch. I think it’s to do with how modern the car is and maybe the engine size?

I have a licence but I didn't drive after I passed the exam, life happened. So now I'm taking some live lessons, but I've found your channel and find your advice SO helpful to remember things and relearn. I moved to Switzerland recently and my test was done in Croatia, so I have to keep in mind that you ride 'on the other side of the road'. However, I'm noticing that what you're teaching and what they're testing is really in depth. I liked my Croatian instructors, because they explained things, but you've showed some things I always wondered how they look but didn't look it up (or fortog by the time I got to the computer), and having it all in one place, systematically, is pure awesomeness. Thank you for doing this and sharing with the world!

I had a really lousy confidence trashing session earlier this week getting just about everything wrong without knowing why or how to improve. My instructor could only tell me that I'm thinking too much without much concrete advice. This video really hit head, indeed I was too busy looking out for cars and trying to decide if it was safe or not, leading to wrong speed, wrong gears, over/under braking. I'm going to keep this in mind for my next lesson!

Thanks, very helpful. I'm returning to driving after many years of not doing it and have been fumbling a bit at junctions and roundabouts. I get round them and haven't had any unpleasant incidents but have been getting in a muddle as I reach the line. Because I'm so concentrated on getting past the junction or roundabout and have set my speed and position if I have to make a last minute adjustment I go a bit blank, (but obviously I correct things). It's all very clunky and rather nerve-wracking because I'm still thinking every action through rather than doing it naturally. I too don't like the MSPSL method, your one sounds much more practical and sensible.

Once I steered to the wrong side of the road as I was looking to traffic on that side instead where I was going to stop.

Great video as always Richard. I teach very similar. Mirrors, Signal, Brakes, Gears. Always thought MSPSL wasnt appropriate as it didn't include gears. I prefer 'Brake' to speed as its more specific and I notice you used 'Brake' in your talk through. I really like 'decide' too much better than look.

Very good video indeed. Started as a pdi last week. Pupils get confused because turning left they diagonally position their car towards the end of the manoeuvre on the left corner. Where the position comes after the speed.

Oh my word, ive tried to learn twice, the last time being an intensive course which i quit a week before my test because of intense anxiety. Im now realising that the anxiety came purely from lack of understanding! I was told what to do but not taught how to understand what I was doing. Your videos are fantastic. Im booking in for a week pass course again in a few weeks and i think these videos will help no end! Thankyou!

Thank you Eleanor. Being anxious behind the wheel is not pleasant. Try to accept that it's OK for you to get things wrong, learners get things wrong all the time. I get things wrong sometimes too.

Thats definitely a struggle of mine, ive always found the theory side of it so easy so when i make a mistake on the practical side whilst learning i just don't get why i can't get it right straight away, evwn though logically I know im being daft thinking that way! Again your videos are already helping me relax more about driving, thanks again!

I have a habit of bringing the clutch up too high at a give way after changing to 1st gear and then going straight to the breaks when the car jumps instead of keeping the clutch low and using the biting point. So frustrating when otherwise had a good lesson this video helped out a lot👍🏻
