0:41 No elevate yourself to the height of an HGV cab. We NEVER see the louvred lights! We have to look closely to see them reflecting on the louvres and in bright sunlight, that aint easy.

Distrust of Smart Motorways is a new factor. Lane 2 of 4 becomes Lane 1 if you’re worried about rear-ending a stranded vehicle.

Every one should be taught to use gas first then the clutch.....as he says how many people are lucky to get a modern day car that does it for you. My daughter is being taught in a modern car, she then brought herself an older car where she has to add gas first and got really frustrated that she kept stalling and was VERY upset at times as she thought she couldn't drive.

The angle of the louvres is critical. E.g. there’s a pedestrian lights set in Hammersmith that have their red light louvres angled down so much that they can only be seen by the driver immediately at the lights craning forward and looking upwards. The TfL ‘traffic engineers’ would say this is safety. But of course, TfL are in the income business.

Part of it is lazy driving. I suggest you go in a lorry for a week or two, also chat with truckers. Key look and plan ahead. And don’t exceed the speed limit and it’s not a target. I will add if truck Carnot over take it slows the economy and effects drivers hours and undue pressure and expect your Amazon parcel later. It’s amazing the amount of people including instructors who seem to have 0 clue about truck bar seeing them as a nuisance / inconvenience. Im saying this as a ex truck driver and left the industry partly due to how we were treated by people and road users. It’s a tough job thankless. Maybe if people drive to the conditions and show patience and curtesy and consideration maybe the roads would A be safer B less stressful D better flow, and so on…. Im sure its thr three second rule due to only fools brack it. But due to 1 sec is lost in relization 2 secs to respond.

The main problem now is sat nav drivig, lost UK driver on UK road with electronic screens and no electricity in onw brain , poor observation, poor hazard perception, and general Highway Code and Physics illiteracy. 😅

They are so annoying. They make it difficult to see the light at an angle yet are frequently placed on traffic lights where a driver of a car would be viewing the structure from an angle and needs to see them. And not in the way shown in the video - they're like that when they actually need to be seen, when drivers need to be able to see the lights properly. Dangerous at times. Also in the example you showed at 1:10 - it would only confuse people who don't know how to drive on UK roads, in which case, whatever the law says about international visitors, they shouldn't be driving on them. Anyone who has learned to drive properly knows that light is a secondary light that has nothing to do with the turning vehicles.

The big issue with the louvered lights is that HGV drivers can't see the lights as the louvers are blocking the view completely. You, therefore, get no warning of the lights changing before they go to red! They are highly dangerous.

the louvers should only be on the red light realistically, as cars are more likely to stop for a red light than a green or amber light. but having them on the 2nd set of lights is a far better idea as seen so many cars fixated on the 2nd set of lights than like in this example of not watching the pedestrian crossing lights, or on a round-about they see 1 green, and not the one closest to them that still apply to them that are red. not sure if you fitted the radiator Richard, hope you remember there is a tyre cap cap on the 1 hose to bleed any air out of the system, not sure if it is the same on all cars, as only found out about it when had a problem with 1 car overheating constantly a decade or so ago, but apart from that the only real awkward thing is the bottom bolts as they will easily go flying into oblivion. not taken a radiator out of a car since my nova back in 1996 but things were simpler back then with plenty of clearance between the engine and the radiator, I wouldn't like to try now. although the engine compartment on my C3 Picasso is pretty decent for gap to the back of the headlights, but not sure about if I had to take a rad out. I would have a look tomorrow if it is dry here as had rain all day.

Want to learn how to double clutch for real? Drive a semi-truck driver with a Fully manual 10 speed, 13, 15, or 18 speed truck. You have to match engine speed with wheel speed (road speed), or else you will not get that gear meshed and it's no bueno! No sync's on semi's. At least it used to be that way prior to automatic transmission semi's (lorry's for you Brit's that don't speak American English)

Those louvres were the bane of my life as a truck driver when sat at lights. If I were at the front of the queue in single carriageway traffic and there was a louvred traffic light, because of my high level sitting in an 18-wheeler (articulated lorry), I can not see the light change to green, its a case of guess work, if the red light bulb (more ans more are becoming LED), were defective and not illuminating at all then since I can not see Amber of green from my cab I have no way to know if its red green and any other colour of the rainbow. Personally, I think better road layouts should be devised, training should be increased to a minimum of 100hrs training and a extensive theory and hazard perception, also when photos expire a re-test is required if it is failed the l8cence is not renewed and further restorative training is required and a second re-test if that is successful the licence is renewed if not the licence is permanently revoked and an entire new application is required with extended training required to be permitted to sit the test. That reduces drivers, reduces poor drivers, poor driving standards, and lack of awareness and increases alertness and awareness. Finally, it reduces the need for these stupid contraptions and, frankly, useless other road planning ideas that serve no function but to increase costs of construction and maintenance and make roads more difficult to navigate, especially in larger vehicles sometimes not even HGVs but pickup trucks and longer vehicles like funeral limos and hearses struggle too. Time we did something about the numbers of poor driving standards and not just make lessons harder while generations of bad driving adults with one test 35 yrs earlier go their day, driving about blind and mindless to the other people and vehicles around them.

around where i live I've only seen louvres on the green and not the amber. i used to think that louvres were used for lights that were always green, but that kinda doesn't make sense as why would they be there in the first place. there were lights put at a staggered junction (that used to be an accident magnet) that has louvres due to the staggered nature of the junction

I know it varies for everyone’s budget but I don’t want to splash on my first car nor do I want to spend more time in the mechanics. What is a fairly reasonable price for a first car?

instead of limiting visibility, just... position the lights better? why not have a pedestrian crossing and crossroad in the same place? why not put the light closer to where it applies instead of putting it in the middle?

No point.All it does is add alot of extra wear and tear on the clutch and gears.Just go down to about 1100 RPM in top gear,then go into neutral,then rely on the brakes from there.Its a no brainer....brakes are alot less expensive that clutches and trannys.

When you go down a gear, would you just let the gear in slowly with the clutch or would you downshift and then blip the accelerator to get the revs high and then let the gear in?
@jp99999999999999999Күн бұрын
These are a nightmare in an HGV. If there are horizontal louvres on the green light you can't see the light so it looks like all the lights are out. In that instance you can either presume the lights are on green and go through or presume the lights are broken and slow right down. Either option can cause problems. Going through when the lights are broken is obviously dangerous and slowing right down when the cars behind you can see the green causes confusion to the vehicles behind.
