Approaching to the limits - SAITO FG21 on 35% NITRO test

Hello, my dear visitors and subscribers !
I am haunted by the answer to one question, how much NITRO can be used in gasoline fuel, what does it give, and how will it affect engine performance? I really like facts. Driven by the love of science and the facts obtained during endless experiments, I decided to take a chance and test Saito FG21 on super "hot" fuel with the addition of 35% NITROMETHANE. In my opinion this is a cruel test, a real torture for the engine, but I need an answer to the question - where is the percentage limit on the use of NITROMETHANE? Do not pour oil into nitromethane and use it as a full-fledged fuel ? Of course, not. But today is a very unusual test, cruel, of course. After the test, not in this video anymore, I will definitely disassemble the engine to determine how much such harsh conditions of the test run could affect the state of its internal parts, and in general, how much can it be loaded? What is its reliability?

Thanks, nice test, did you tested the same 35% nitro mix with glow plugs?

Thank for your comment ! No, I didn't, there was just a real torture test for the engine, it's was seriously overheated. But I can predict, that most of the tested glow plugs will perform similar. The only limitation should be stable low idling - so large amount of NITRO will influence negatively to the glow plug heating element - it will be cooled increasingly, due to the high nitromethane evaporation level. We have NITRO over 1/3 of fuel mix, it's so enormous amount. I think, that 15% Nitro is more, than enough, and if we'll take NITRO cost, even 5-8% will affect nicely on engine performance. It works, in fact.

Thank you very much for your question. Yes, indeed, I'm using factory default timing, so , of course, it could be possible to find some few increased RPM's, trying to fine tune it. But my task wasn't to achieve absolutely TOP speed, but just to evaluate some limits of NITRO influence on engine performance. Thank you and have a nice day !

@@crazyengines88 Hi mate, yeah I was actually more wondering if the factory settings would even work.... I am very impressed with your test. I'm going to try 10% with a bit more oil in my FG-11 and monitor the temperature with a thermal camera to confirm that it doesn't run too hot. Mate your test was great and confirms a question I'm sure many people have wondered so, good work again.

@@aSpyIntheHaus Thank you very much for your kind comments ! I really feels happy, if the results of my experiments were useful for a lot of RC modelers. It's very clever to check engine's temperature with thermal camera, I really was afraid about so high engine cylinder temp during last test. I think, that it was very excessive NITRO amount. 5-10 will be more, than enough, to stabilize idling, and to add some power on the top speed. Thank you and have a nice day !

I was going to say, go easy on the methanol, the carby will struggle to supply enough fuel.... But mate you have that dialled in beautifully.

Strong little engine. Be careful though. If you keep mixing fuels you might end up with dragster fuel. Very powerful stuff. That's a nice engine don't blow it to pieces.

Thank you for your comment ! I try to be very careful with the engines, if I give an excessive load, then dosed. After such tests, I always check the condition of the internals, the cylinder walls, the piston, the condition of the bearings and the crankshaft journal. Experience shows that these Saito engines are very, very reliable and built with a large margin of safety. @@shawndubay4050 Thank you very much for your comment ! I can understand them, easily. The only way you can trust the engine - is to look inside after serious loads, and check every part. Any sign of wear, any scratched or matted surface means, that on the next run engine could make a fault. Thank you, very touched and appreciated for your evaluation.

@@crazyengines88 thank you and your welcome. If you have never seen the top fuel nationals you got to. It's amazing. They run a quarter of a mile in like 4 or 5 seconds and shoot six foot flames out of the exhaust headers.

Great thank to you. I never thought of adding nitro to gasoline . But for both methanol and gasoline seems to work the same 10-15% rules Bien a vous

Hi what did you use as a binder for the 35% nitro with gasoline? as those 2 dont mix with each other like oil and water.

Hi, I'm very much appreciated for your question ! Definitely, standard gasoline could be mixed flawless with nitromethane up to 35% of Nitro in mix, without any hesitations. Everything over 35% will makes this mix blurry and unstable (mix ratio is approx. Of course, it depends of different reasons, too. But in general, 35% is a limit, but could speed up engine well.
