Wow! The very first story was amazing, it bought a tear to my eye. I have 2 sons with Autism, one is non verbal and we are about to buy him a tablet for communicating. I am thankful that technology has not forgotten those in the world who still need assistance.

My Grandson is Autistic, and I admire the Parents that don't give up, and the Families that become the voice that defend their kids, and family member with Autism. And to each and everyone of you that suffer any Learning Disability I am really Proud of the kind, and Loving way that characterize you ... even when some People is Cruel, Rude, and ignorant ... specially in the Schools. I pray for each and everyone to find a way to unlock your Mind, to express, to be free. Thanks to the Creators of our Technology, and their kindness in making Tools, Devices, Apps to help our children, and give them a little light.🙃Love,

Technology is the future for communicating to people with autism. As a pre-service teacher, I see iPads being used in all the field placements I have been in. I just hope all people with autism would be lucky enough to get an iPad

just want to note that communication devices are free for the autism community as they are funded through medicaid, but I dont think that includes the ipad, companies like dynovox and prentke do offer funding.

Excellent!!! I know what my son will be getting for x-mas. It also needs to be said, such tools like the iPad and these apps have been around in other forms for several years now, but last time I priced them, they were $3,000 - $5,000 each. Thank you, Steve Jobs..... and thank you 60 Minutes for airing this.

Really works. We have Aaron, a 21 year old allot like Josh. Aaron has an iPad and he loves it, asks to use it more and more. First thing he has taken real interest in since he was introduced to Whinny the Pooh VHS tapes when he was a toddler. Thank you Steve Jobs for all you have done for Aaron and parents of autistics.

With some people with autism some of them, they are trapped in their own bodies, they want say something, but their bodies and brains won't allow them to communicate, luckily with these IPADS with therapy they can communicate what they are feeling, what they are doing, and open up. This could change the way therapies can be done with people with autism.

@sangikim It depends on the level of autism they exhibit though. In cases of severe autism where the person seems to almost be locked in, the ipad seems to be a VERY effective method, as are computers. For someone with asperger's though I agree that helping them develop strong social coping mechanisms is better than trying to circumvent social situations. Technology seems to be a strength of most aspies and autistics though.

Our Autistic daughter (totally non-verbal) is getting an Augmentive Comm. device that works a lot like the I pad. Her teacher's first response to this news was "Who's going to train her on it?!" -So I can sympathize with your situation. The Speech therapist at school is receptive to the idea. All school districts should be open to using ALL assitive technology devices for communication!!! If yours won't work with you, maybe you should take legal action.

My 3 year old autistic daughter has an Ipad and she loves it. But as a parent, using the Ipad as method of therapy or teaching tool is the last method I would use. Autism is a social & communication disorder - I would think having children engaging with a person instead of the Ipad is more important. Using ABA, natural environment teaching, & good old fashion speech therapy is the best way. To my daughter, Ipad is a fantastic toy - much like the nintendo 3ds is to my neuro typical nephew.

i wonder why i was diagnosed with autism, i was not like these kids when i were young, and i got the diagnose when i was 18, maybe i don't have autism, because i feel sorry for the real ones who got autism/asperger syndrome i've been seeing on youtube. the only thing that can prove that i could have the diagnose, are maybe a blood test or brain scan. not a psychologist. but in sweden they are very bad at these thing's.

Don't you think we're becoming too dependent on technology, up to a point where we stop talking and socialising normally? I'm not being rude but I'm just a bit concerned for autistic kids. They'll become dependent on these apps and if the device switches off or gets damaged, who knows. Just think about it for a bit. Please.
