I'll be 60 this year and for the first time I'm doing major gardening. I'm starting with a blank slate from scratch. It's exhausting but I'm loving it. So glad I found you because I'm right here in Geauga County.

Starting fresh is so exciting! Lots of opportunities and things to try out. Please let me know how things progress. I am not far, Ashtabula county. So glad you're here! I have TONS of videos on my channel that will answer your questions or give you design ideas. You may like my garden tour playlist.

One thing I do like about your garden. The wood beds don't need to be any taller than you have ❤ I'm 6a Columbus, Ohio, have a cabbage volunteer that is starting blooming, and I'll gather seeds.

Thanks John! The beds have been working out well. We’re going to be adding some more. That’s good you’re saving seeds!

Always love to learn more about brassicas. I still have yet to grow cauliflower successfully 😢…I see you’re growing elephant garlic! Love it..ours is getting huge, even bigger than last year. This time I amended the area with cow manure..thinking the phosphorus is paying off. Glad to see the weather is allowing you to get out and get the ball rolling!

Cauliflower is hard! The best ones I've ever harvested were from purchased starts. Not sure why those were so good and the rest I've done myself weren't. We keep trying! I like the idea of amending with cow manure for the phosphorus. I should get some. Weather is playing nice.. although we have a frost threat next week!

@@bloomandwiltgardens That's great! I haven't looked at the outside yet, but I just pulled the covers I put over the tunnels early this morning so the sun can start warming them back up. Great channel! Look forward to seeing more vids!

New sub ( YT recommended your channel ) This might turn into a book... ( wave ) Sharon and Billy New Gardeners in 7a Central TN. We are vlogging our newly rebuilt Garden area. Last year we tested the soil and found the native clay can grow Squash, cucumbers well. We literally broadcasted a Mixed 200 seeds ( 4 packets of different pumpkins and butternut squash.) Collected about 300# of squash by November and maybe 25# of cucumbers over 2 1/2 months. Tomatoes, peas, beans and corn struggled badly. I saw a few carrots over winter. ( Tiny harvest ). We found wild blueberries close by in the woods, black walnut and hickory nuts. The birds pooped in either Blackberry or Raspberries by the 100's. ( 2nd year and we now see flowers!) Maybe we'll get to eat berries this year? I think so! I'm a newer gardener and Billy is networked with garden channel learning to grow food for the last 3 years. We joined and are now part of "Grow Big TV" Joe is very kind and gives seeds away while interviewing Gardeners like you , scientist and famous growers of KZfaq: Gardner Scott, John Kohler ( grow your greens ), Mary's heirloom seeds and many others. THIS YEAR No more games. We read up on growing 2,500 lbs Atlantic pumpkins. Why? Well, pro growers know things. We are applying this knowledge to the grow season. So we bought Grow bags, a long trellis, solar drip irrigation 40 taps and a huge tarp. We're against weed barrier as we are not commercial and too many nasty problems in the long run. Organic blood and bone meal, some perlite and a large bag of Peat moss. Picked up 900# of 2 year old composted farm manure from a girl that has a 600 acre naturally grazed pasture. She warned us only her New animals were medicated. Cows, peacocks, Emu's, goats, chicken and guinea's. We understand and this is ok. Nothing used for herbicides, or fungicides. Clean manure basically. I called around maybe 7 to 9 local farms until we found her ( 25 miles away). What a gem! With 2 blown out front shocks we made it and she loaded us up for free and said to come back as she has 3 tons to move.

@@bloomandwiltgardens Bill from the Wickershire I got a kick out of you growing in cinder blocks! We do this too with great success! Utilizing any growing space is a must! I'm re-reading what my wife Sharon typed out. She's on point about what's going on here. We just built a new Flower bed and moved all our starts (80%) of them into the grow pots. We'll be figuring out the drip irrigation for the melon trellis soon. I'll hand water all tomatos and peppers. Ok I'm off to deliver plants to the neighbors. Basically a Moped delivery service in our neck of the woods! Cheap on gas and gets us to everyone nearby in a reasonable amount of time. I think they enjoy seeing me putt putting through the muddy trails with plants and 40# soil bag deliveries the most. ( It's a funny sight I guess! ) Grow Big! Grow in abundance! 🌱🌻🐝 "The WickerShire Project" Off grid.
