@@AircreteHarry I need to build a shop building next summer. I'm an artist and I work in clay. The models need to be kept at a constant temperature. I'm thinking of building a building out of aircrete foam cement blocks, then covering the outside and inside with encaustic tiles, set in a ferro cement base. The studio is not in the best area so I would like a very sturdy building. ... I was thinking a system like that might work for what you build as well. If you made fiberglass molds of igloo-like aircrete blocks, you could pour cement foam into the block molds. You might need 5 or 6 molds to cover all the layers but once you were done you would have a rigid aircrete insulating shell. You could then spray the light foam add in the fiberglass mesh and spray over that to end up with a rigid outer shell. The advantage of doing it that way would mean that you don't need the inner and outer tyvek air shells. It might take a bit of time for you to make the fiberglass molds, but if you use an aircrete mold with plaster you might be able to pour three times a day. So if you are pouring all the forms at once while waiting for the others to cure. You might be able to pour a complete foam igloo blocks in a day or two. Setting the blocks would take a day.

Good explanation on tools, why you need them as well as small nuggets of info to pay attention to. One thing regarding wooden I-beams sitting on their very ends on just an inch of concrete. Contact surface is very small, need more concrete contact area. Concrete wall needs to be thicker there. And I-beams are somewhat elastic with very poor load bearing if set on very ends. Add another 2 feet each way (sticking out through the wall) and they will be strong enough to support two adults exercising.
@AircreteHarry
@AircreteHarry Жыл бұрын
Thank you Saul! For sure, - I didn't get into details yet - it will be showcased once I get to that point while building. Yes, important to also have in mind is that most I-beams are supported by wall mounted steel brackets (joist hanger) which are about 2 inches in length. These I-beams will be inside of a monolithic structure making them very strong.

Thanks for the video Harry. It's always a treat to see your new content. I'm curious with the air form. I know Tyvek has a lot of net positives, but what if you replaced the initial typhic air form with a fiberglass cloth instead. You could harden it with the resin such that it'd be easier to keep the air form rigid as well as a waterproof wall for the inside. Wanted to know your two cents on this idea.

@@boltholeonabudget6526 Welcome to the channel 👍 I agree with you, it would be.

I Greatly Appreciate you, Thank you very much for the kind words!! I personally work with cement (plus resin would be an additional heavy cost, just as @Bolthole on a Budget mentioned in the comment below, I agree) While I can comprehend your thoughts behind the question / idea - I want to remind you & others that I do use the Meshform as support & additional strength for the build. It has many benefits & doesn't get removed while the Tyvek Air-Form does after the structure stands on its own. The Tyvek Air-Form traps the air in allowing the form to inflate. The mesh would not trap air in, so it won't work for that purpose by itself.

Hi! Been following you for quite some time. Glad to see an update. I'm very much interested in doing my own project in the next year. I want to start out with building a garage/guest house for my first build on my lot. I was doing a similar design as the hyperbolic parabola you mentioned at the end, except I wanted a 20ft high. But I was wondering why the smaller dimension at the center, as to keeping it cylindrical? I'm also thinking reinforced with rebar, not sure if its worth it when comparing to tensile strength.
@AircreteHarry
@AircreteHarry Жыл бұрын
Welcome to the channel Niko👍 The smaller dimention you are referring to is what makes it a hyperbolic paraboloid, otherwise you would just have an arch building with Dome ends. Basalt rebar with basalt mesh is another option - which I would suggest. I'll be having another LIVE Talk this comming Saturday - on my KZfaq channel. You are Welcome to join. I'll be announcing it soon. ✌️

AWESOME!!! How much more difficult do you think it would be to build a 20-foot dome? Do you think the additional 56% floor area and roughly 95% additional interior volume would be worth it? Or would going up that high possibly create some really big problems? Or perhaps this is already a future piece of your master plan.

What would happen if the inside dome were built and then just filled the outside dome without spraying it first? I understand one would have to cut through the full thickness on the doors and windows. Something would also have to be put on the outside to protect it, but I expect that would have to be done anyway. Great stuff you're doing!

Hi harry. It’s a very interesting technique. The double air form is fascinating. Would make it faster than blocks but how do you assure consistency ?How do you keep the density consistent as you near the roof of the dome ? The weight of the aircrete upon itself must surely take an effect on density and strength ? Curing troubles ? Thanks

@@AircreteHarry thats great. t hanks for the reply. Have you tested the compressive load at various heights during a pour ? How high up the dome do you pour on one day ? Have you considered "floating" rebar off your inner cement dome, prior to installation of the outer dome airform ?
