The paint your using comes from Germany. There is a company in the USA that make similar ceramic sphere paint. Thermo Shield is the name of the company. They use the same low VOC acrylic paint. Thank you for all your hard work Harry. Namaste to you!

You might consider a larger tyvek air dome over top of the dome as a temporary shell cover until you can get the outside coated. Also, propane burns and puts off two water molicules for every one of propane burned. So you are putting water into the air, as well as CO2. Just something to think about, because I bet not all the water is coming from the outside or concrete.

A 20 lb tank of propane produces about 4 gallons of water as water vapor when burned. That Big Buddy heater can go through that in a day or two if left on the high setting. I've used the same heater indoors as a backup for a couple days and the condensation was bad. Had to leave windows cracked.

I came down here to say the same thing, personal experience + spending a few months working in the home performance business taught me non-vented propane is really bad for residential use.

There are two Lanco white Roof Sealer products I just discovered to have ceramic bead micropheres. 5 gallons Lanco Coolguard $209 delivered; and Uretanizer $169 5 gal from Home Depot. Might be great as insulating paint. I asked the questions forum there about that idea just 5 mins ago, and then came back here to where I got inspired, to post.

Hello Harry, don't forget this: C3H8 + 5 O2 → 3 CO2 + 4 H2O + chaleur Your propane by combustion, give a lot of water inside your beautiful Dome.

Great work.. Its quite a fantastic finish you have achieved. Thanks for all your efforts.. as you no doubt realize if you had a fan to circulate the inside air the over all air quality would suffer due to the fuel burn.. I use a waste oil burner outside and blow past and around the hot chimney to heat air and send that to my van..waste oil no cost and hot air no fume. Ebay has chinese diesel van heater same idea... thanks aircrete harry great work

You might want to consider tacking Part 6 onto your parts 1 - 5 playlist. It was nice of yt to show it off on the right hand side of suggested videos but that may not always happen.

Could you try covering the inside dome with plaster first (reinforced after the first layer), then adding the reinforced aircrete over that... when you remove the inner air form it should be smooth plaster ready to paint...

It’s so important to keep moisture out of cement and masonry in freezing climates. The moisture will freeze and expand causing deterioration over time. Neat product, thanks for the info.

Harry ! Dome shaped *basements* ? Simple smoothed pit - finished real accurate by centre point tool on a rope - if reinforcement left poking up to join a dome - makes a perfect *SPHERE* ! Weighted right might even float - I have heard of a concrete boat - very round bottom could be a water tank - or even for fish

I figured I would post this here When shooting any type of shotcrete you want to start at the bottom and build up to the desired thickness as you move up Add lime for stickynes Trowel for the detail work before it sets up For those that have not figured it out You could add another dome over with an air gap and just waterproof that one you will find that you will have no moisture issues and it will stay cool and hold heat Nice job

The video you had with shipping container and this paint with the blue n white, like to see a comparison with blue n blue of this paint to see if any difference. as the white itself was a key factor there.. but ceramics can help, I know we use it for header coatings to keep heat inside the pipe instead of engine compartment....

Harry, we briefly talked before but i wasn't quite ready. Im still working on some more funding. But i should be ready soon. Ill be building affordable underground homes and bunkers. Hey did you realize that propane is very high in water content. Very high moisture so that’s probably where a lot of your moisture was coming from. Try a very small woodstove and I’ll bet you don’t get that condensation

Have you taken into account the load on the wall near the floor as well as deterioration from moisture? I would be concerned about the whole structure being compromised by crumbling near the ground.

No crumbling anywhere, this is a strong Dome build.

Water vapor comes from the propane which condenses on the walls. Hydrocarbons burn to produce CO₂ and H₂O. Use electric instead! I love domes, but the acoustics can be really disturbing, so I'd use a lot of sound absorption and baffles too.

What was the temperature outside the dome AFTER the paint was applied INSIDE the dome? Harry shows 80 degrees at head height in the dome but doesn't tell us what the outside temperature is.

How come you didn't mention the torpedo heater you were using while you were painting; along with the smaller heater?

I meant to add that bit of info but forgot to add it. After the first temperature reading I put on the 60,000 BTU torpedo heater on all night to dry-out the walls be for painting, and left it on to help dry the paint faster for about an hour after I finished painting. Then I put the Mr Heater on all night before taking the seconded temperature reading.

Great product. I think the R value improvement you stated is more optimistic. Paint thickness is only a few ten thousands. Stagnant air would I believe not reach the value you stated, but I have not done the analysis, I must admit. The conductivity of the paint binder and the ceramic shell is an order of magnitude worse then air and first reduces the air thickness and provides an alternate path. A simple example is the resistance of two resistors in parallel, one very small and one very big. (resistance is the inverse of conductivity) The combined resistance is dominated by the small resistor, or the higher conductor, the solid material. It is still a great product and their claims presented in the video are accurate. They do not suggest the R value.

If you are going to use propane you should look into getting a vent so the gas won't use up all the air.

I have a 2 inch gap in the door top and bottom works good for fresh air. I can control air flow with curtains.

Oil bas paint sounds like it may work to repel water, I don't know a lot about paint.

In my experience Petroleum ( enamel ) based paints do repel water however the paint might peal more than plastic or acrylic paints ( after many years ), Also the colour can be used to cool or heat a structure ( white to keep cool, black to be hot inside )

The condensation is 99% from the propane heater. The byproduct of burning propane is H20.

I was thinking the same thing about the heater. In such a small area it could be fatal - that heater really needs to be vented. I suppose it wouldn't be hard to poke a hole through the wall to add a vent for it though.

@@AircreteHarry Thanks, Harry for your kind response. My philosophy in life is being as natural as possible and to depend on dubious technologies, the less possible. I love rammed earth for building, but it is very labor-intensive compared to Aircrete. Thermal efficiency can be achieved using the principles of the underground housing of Mike Oehler's books. Although being "underground," the house still has windows and natural light. I will love to see these concepts applied in the construction of Aircrete domes. Keep doing the good work Harry, and thanks for sharing your advances and techniques with your illustrative videos. Regards.

impressive, but no windows, on the sides windows and no skylight I would look better with 15 feet diameter and wider entrance door. I realize the interior is not complete can you show a complete interior with kitchen and other furniture?

How do you get fresh air? There is a device called a heat recovery ventilator. It can provide fresh air, without losing heat.

@@AircreteHarry I saw some guy on youtube had an good idea for DIY HRV, basically get a thin sheet of aluminium and fold it many times to get lots of surface area, build a box around it and have 4 air holes, 2 on each side separated by alu, aluminium is cheap and has excellent heat exchange properties, outside air goes in box, gets warm by the alu, and enter the house, stale air from inside the house goes on the other side of the alu box warms the cold air before it goes out. there maybe some condensation but easy to fix with few small holes and pipes, only recovers heat not humanity, sorry cant remember where i saw it,

I see you have a nice solar array. Rain catchment and a nice root cellar would make that place a fine home away from home. Also, the audio on this otherwise excellent vlog was set too low.

I thought I saw a video of yours a few years back, showing Basalt Mesh to be the least effective reinforcement material for these kinds of builds. Wasn't that you?

Not Basalt Mesh, what I used was Basalt Fiber chopped and it was less effective than Steel micro rebar.

Fortunately the Mr. Buddy heaters have a low oxygen shut off to help mitigate carbon monoxide poisoning.

You did not finish giving the details of how paint affected temperature inside after you completed painting the outside. You went into such detail earlier, after only painting the inside, & even included video from the company, but did not include your conclusion. Did it work? Was it so little improvement after painting the outside that it did jot merit even mentioning? I was looking forward to the results...can you post those details please? In fact, you can give an update on how well the paint stuck to the exterior & interior walls & how much you are saving on energy now....thanks!

I was supposing that the main purpose of aircrete is heat insulation. Here we see that builder is presenting a sort of paint for that aim. What is going on? Why doesn't the aircrete wall provide heat insulation?

Just put a cheap green roof on it, it will be lots prettier, and low cost.

The paint is also acting as a seal to stop water getting into the cement.

I have a 2 inch gap in the door top and bottom works good for fresh air. I can control air flow with curtains.
