Richard Hammond delivers an insightful review on the Aprilia RS250, presenting a compelling alternative to heavyweight, high-powered motorcycles.
Delving into its key specifications, Hammond meticulously explores the bike's strengths and weaknesses. Despite its seemingly modest 250cc engine, the Aprilia RS250 defies expectations by packing a surprising punch, making it an unlikely but formidable choice for those seeking a race bike experience beyond the realms of beginner riders.

Imagine doing a two stroke review and having music, shit music at that, instead of engine noise.

I was the proud owner of a mk1 RS250 Reggiani race replica, it was the best bike I've ever owned. I love the smell of 2stroke in the morning, smells like excitement. I love the sound and smell of a 2stroke, and that kick up the arse you get when you hit the power-band. Long live the 2stroke race rep'.

I had one of these for my first bike after passing my test back in 99, at 6ft2in I didn't think it was that uncomfortable at all. Loved it, ended up having another one after being knocked off.

Richard Hammond did a lot of great shows and documentaries (wild weather, engineering connections) but I'd love to see him in another motorcycle show/docu ... maybe together with James May.

From the states, rode one of these, most likely meant for the track it didn't have turn signals and such, oh she's a beaut. Needs to shift in all the wrong RPMs, it was a blast wish I could afford it in the states.

Why this bike too expensive for USA? The higher insurance rate or the environment tests of California..... I just think many bikes cheap in USA. YAMAHA R3 4999 USD just 1000 USD higher than INDIA original-local-made price.

hcmpe yang They didn't sell them in the USA because they would only be road-legal in some states (not legal in California for example).

For anyone who wasn't around at the time bikes like this drank petrol and the engine didn't last very long before it needs a rebuild . I was lucky enough to have a suzuki rg 250 back in the day it was a fun little bike I wouldn't mind a 250 2 stroke road legal Enduro bike it would tick a lot of boxes and scratch a lot of itches but a honda xr400 would win head over hearth overall I prefer 4 strokes mainly Ducati . It's all in the ride you can enjoy your self at saneish speeds on a Ducati an inline 4 is too much I can't restrain myself on one there is no fun to be had dawdling along on one .

Is the power valve pinned open or do the rs250 run a power valve servo system ?

The collaboration with Aprillia and Suzuki could have only resulted in a very quick sports 250cc.. very nice.. oil change regular and chain and sprockets.. a must.. regular service important too!! Then your goid to go.. can be a bit frantic.. I have an nsr 250 mc18 which is civalised but nit as quick as the aprellia I think the best of the bunch was probably the Suzuki vj22 a missile for sure!!!!😂😂☝️.. Hold on!!!!!!!

The Italians invented the two stroke engine and build the most sophisticated bikes ! This one is a v-twin power valve develops 60 bhp ! The problem is that most countries ban this model and not registrable anymore ...

Total bullshit, it's a (Japanese) Suzuki rgv 250 engine in the Aprilia, and furthermore from wilipedia, The first commercial two-stroke engine involving in-cylinder compression is attributed to Scottish engineer Dugald Clerk, who patented his design in 1881. However, unlike most later two-stroke engines, his had a separate charging cylinder. The crankcase-scavenged engine, employing the area below the piston as a charging pump, is generally credited to Englishman Joseph Day. On 31 December 1879, German inventor Karl Benz produced a two-stroke gas engine, for which he received a patent in 1880 in Germany. The first truly practical two-stroke engine is attributed to Yorkshireman Alfred Angas Scott, who started producing twin-cylinder water-cooled motorcycles in 1908.

Pretty flaccid review. Front brakes on these a bit sharp and don't forget it has an rgv250 motor so it is only a matter of time before the power valves will be having an expensive meeting with the front of the piston. Get an rd350lc .
