Step into the mind of a Forensic Psychiatrist as I walk you through the case of Mr Rodman, a man I assessed in a criminal medico-legal case as an expert witness. I'll take you through my thinking and my psychoanalysis as I considered the diagnosis of Schizoid Personality Disorder.

Hi, I like your style and humor. As a clear cut schizoid myself I believe you got something wrong. The fact that schizoids have no interest for sex does not mean they do not have sexual desires. They lack interest in sexual RELATIONSHIPS and all it involves but not sex in general per se. You say that the fact that they found pornographic pictures is incompatible with that symptom, but I would say it's not at all. Sex can be a solitary activity, if you know what I mean, and don't forget one of the symptoms is "rich internal fantasy world".
@barsozuguler4744

I think even if they have interest on sex, its still on primitive level like a need more than desire. They dont view their relationships based on things that people usually thinks how it exactly should be. Maybe they just do it for keeping their partners content or just because of boredom. Spending time with pornographic pictures in solitude is just a another way to avoid any human relationship

One of the big issues with the diagnosis is that there are very few pure schizoids out there. Most of the time it's people that were misdiagnosed and are really autistic, schizotypal or avoidant. That not to say that there aren't any, but there are so few that maintaining it as an active diagnosis is pretty much impossible.

@uguler4744 I just like how rubbing my dick feels. I've always found it unfortunate that I ejaculate (though, often I don't do it long enough to ejaculate; I've always tried to quit before I ejaculate, but that doesn't always work), which creates a mess and cuts time short. Maybe one of these days, I'll be able to have my testicles and prostate removed and I won't have to worry about the mess aspect anyway.

I was diagnosed with this and a few other personality disorders. It’s definitely become more obvious over the last 3 years. I don’t have any irl friends and only have 4 friends online. I just can’t get how people enjoy being around anyone. I sit in the car and never speak or only when I’m having hyper episodes. If you’ve read the subtypes of schizoid personality disorder, you’ll see many different types (it’s by Theodore Millon)

Abusing children is a extreme crime for anyone with any disorder though. I have all of the traits except empathy with externally aloof behaviours and I havent even thinked about something like this. I would punish him for that too. He has more than just schizoid traits like also more physcopathic traits too

Yeah I was lost on this one. lol JK I get it though. I have a mild version of schizoid. I used to be pretty severe, but I have gotten a lot better over the years. My children healed me in a lot of ways perhaps. I get what he means that he does not know a lot of people with this condition. My parents used to force me to go to therapy as a teenager. And the therapist told them it is probably not going to help or be effective, because I would not engage with them. I am totally aware of people trying to interact with me, but I just did not want to engage with them. I think this may make this condition quite different from Autism. I imagine Autistic people are not avoiding people on purpose and most of them are probably not aware of their behavior is way different from what people expect. I know my behavior is way outside of social norms and I am not really bothered by it. Also, I am married and have children now, but I identify as asexual. I have no sexual desires. My husband has to initiate intimacy with me. And I feel like it is a chore. I could live without it. I seriously would rather wash my hair lol. (If that makes sense). My current husband is very aware and understanding of my condition. My ex was not. He eventually left me for someone else because I could not fulfill his emotional needs. He thought I was cold. And I 100% understand his perspective. I am who I am. My current husband thought that at first too, but I was more open and direct with him. I can't say that we go to therapy because (even the thought of it makes me anxious- just the thought of talking to a person... for a whole hour... or even 30 minutes is not appealing to me at all). But my husband is a workaholic and can be gone for weeks at time. He wants a partner that does not have to be him every single moment (or someone who is clingy) so maybe that is why we get along alright. (We have been together 10 years now.)

You made mania sound way too nice 😞 rapid cycling and having experienced episodes of manic psychosis, it’s more terrifying than the depressive phases for me. It was the MANIA that made me go to a psych ward to get fully medicated because I realised my life was very realistically in danger. Mania = not fun if you’ve got the bad bipolar times.

I thought and was suggested to have this personality disorder, but lately I realize that my distance from others is given by the fear that they hurt me or that they are malicious, rather than disinterested. I mean, I don’t think I am, but at the same time, I don’t want to talk about this with my therapist, so I won’t have any diagnoses .

There has been a paradigm shift in mental health. Most Personality disorders (mental illness) including Schizoid can be treated and cured. Therapies such as Schema therapy or psychodynamic therapy, by a trained psychologist, specialist in trauma can help cure Schizoid for example.

The description of SPD in the DSM manual is very simplistic and basically external, theoretically one could make a diagnosis based on the accounts of the environment (in ICD-10 too). Therefore, it is not surprising that the character of the actual person does not match very well with the characterisation in the manual. Far more people with SPD identify as asexual (yet another variety of orientation besides LGBT) than in the average population, and many avoid sexual situations. But not all, and they usually have a normally functioning libido. There have already been cases described in the medical literature of schizoids engaging in many one-off sexual encounters, who thus do not need to establish a relationship with another person. There are also individuals who pursue their sexual needs alone and in odd and eccentric ways - peeping at others, rubbing up against each other, spinning elaborate fantasies about real people. It seems to me that Mr Rodman may have somehow felt arousal at the sight of children, but at the same time did not intend to have sex with or in front of them; it may have been part of some fantastic scenario, difficult to realise in reality, something about Peter Pan for example.
@lc4011
@lc4011 2 жыл бұрын
What does "sex offender therapy" consist of, exactly? Don't they have a "devious arousal pattern" and, thus, interventions are relatively ineffective except as to "train" a person out of that devious arousal pattern? This could be a good source of content, no?
