No just no. You can’t remove a character that’s been in the show for almost 30 years now. That’s just wrong. If you don’t like it, just don’t watch the show. I find a lot of jokes in Family Guy offensive but I’m not gonna make a complaint to remove certain things for my sake. I’m just not gonna watch it. These guys should do the same with the Simpsons.

To my mind, this is the end of the Simpsons. If they drop Apu then Krusty the Jewish clown will have to go, Willie (rough Scot)-he’s gone, Bumblebee Man (useless Mexican)...gone, Italian chef guy-gone, Akira-gone, Moleman Guy (laughing at the disabled anyone?)-he’s out of there, people in old folks home (are you ageist?)..all out, Cletus and Brandine...gone, the lacklustre Rev Lovejoy and Flanders-gotta go-can’t be making fun of the Christian faith can we if the others are no go areas. The shows creators will quickly find that so as not to show bias or be seen to favour any one ‘group’-that they no longer have a show. Sad times. Of course, the least fuss will be made about the ‘white characters’- but yes they are all still stereotypes-Barney-local drunk, Mrs Lovejoy-gossiping, middle class do-gooder -“Who will think about the children!”. Homer-lower middle class/working class ‘Everyman’. Otto-local spaced out stoner that never amounts to much, Edna Crabapple-man-hungry older single woman and fed up public school worker, Ralph-not particularly bright kid in the class etc etc etc. But if they start taking one or two out because idiots are ‘offended’ then they risk losing the whole show because in the new Orwellian PC nightmare world that’s being created you can’t be seen as favouring one group over another-or not being consistent. So pretty quickly they would have no show as the characters disappear. I hear now though that the Apu leaving rumour is maybe not true. Let’s hope that common sense prevails...

Mr Ubri imo it has already ruined western entertainment (I'm hoping the PC rubbish never hits the east).... look at the last 10 years and see the type of tv show or movies made and the messages they try to push... they even remade, or continued old films and twisted them to their ideology (looking at you star wars! lol).... It's similar to the past how the governments would take away people's luxuries and then people would get bored and angry that they can't do anything so would rebel and riot.... not saying that would happen today (well...) but the people in charge wonder why so many people get annoyed or angry these days, not realising that it is them causing it by trying to make everything PC. no see pc culture as a concept is a step in the right direction but it's being blown out of proportion theese days. I understand the idea behind this but i think either charter develotpment a death scene, or even an explination giving in the show like "I'm moving back to india", or maybey some one else takes over the quicky mart or something, would have been a far better solution. and then maybey bring him back every once in a while, or atleast mention him. besides if apu leaves who's taking care of the baby octopelits manjula can't do it all herself . idk well see.

I have a great idea. We should start a petition to bring Apu back to the show. After all, that's how Brian from Family Guy got brought back, how Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie got made, and how plenty of projects have returned from the dead. You can't get offended by these shows. They make fun of EVERYTHING. There was an episode of South Park where Cartman acts like a special needs kid to get inside the special Olympics which some could find offensive. The creators of South Park started a fun raiser not that long ago to support autism. None of these shows are racist or anything they just can make a point and say things that you wouldn't be able to say irl because they're cartoons.

I’m an Indian/Sri Lankan Hindu, and I love Apu. He perfectly parody’s the immigrant experience in America, and more makes fun of how people treat immigrants than making fun of them. So sad. He’s one of the most fleshed out side characters on the show, and rivals modern day Indian tv characters like raj from the Big Bang theory, who I think is 10 times more offensive.

this is bullshit. apu has been literally a main cast character (after all of his appearances, he is as main as flanders pretty much) for 30 years. The world today is so damn sensitive that they will deem everything offensive in their eyes. Apu is a beloved character, and I see nothing wrong with his character. I would find the simpsons alittle strange without him, and seeing who does own the Kwik-e-mart. Like some comments say; If you don't like it, don't watch it. This shouldn't have turned into a present issue.

Minority stereotypes in shows like The Simpsons (while obviously exaggerating personality traits because well, that's what stereotypes are) generally outsmart, outwit and out-succeed against the main characters every time. For anyone with the narrative literacy to read the character they are empowering, not harmful. The problem is we have a growing number of people that have zero capacity to read into subtleties and context. The characters aren't racist, the audience is just getting dumber and more susceptible to group-think based on outrage.

If they're going to get rid of Apu, they should at least have him pack his things, say goodbye to everyone, and reminisce about all the great times they had together. Or they could just have him killed off like _South Park_ did with Chef (Okay, maybe not to that extend). It's better than having the character disappear without explanation.

Apu needs to stay, he’s a decent character in the simpsons. Who’s gonna run his market D: This is really sad, I’ll miss him. He was a good character, they could’ve changed his character a bit. He’s been adored by many people like I do I like all the character or Most. But still they could’ve changed how he was instead of taking the easy way out by throwing him out of the show. Tbh he’s kind of the first Indian character I ever saw.

I’m Indian and I love Apu. He was one of, if not THE most well rounded character on the show. My dad has been a huge fan of the simpsons since it aired and we both love Apu and never found him offensive. We’re proud of our culture and no cartoon that makes fun of everyone should ever offend you.

The ratings can't be great, given the show's near 30 year run, but Fox will likely never cancel it because it's a big breadwinner for the network. Writing Apu out only shows how irrelevant the show is becoming.

Apu should be allowed to stay. EVERYONE in the Simpsons is a stereotype of something in society and this was going on since ‘89. If you could laugh then, why not now? Its not like the 40s or 50s cartoons that painted minorities in a negative light for “comedy”. Maybe I’m missing something but I don’t see an issue with Apu’s character that can’t be fixed with proper development.

The more I think of it, the more I think, Apu didn't deserve being removed from the show. Why? Because while he is a stereotype , he's not wrong. He's not racist. He was a well written character. And dang it, I'll tell you what. Every person from India the ALL have that accent. Thick Accents are not racist. They are how you instantly disguise a person and determine there heritage. Accents are truth. People like Apu just naturally have that accent. the longer I live the more I find stereotypes come from a place of truth and finding the inoffensive exception is darn near impossible. people from India have an Indian accent. People from Jamaica have a Jamaican accent German people have a German accent. Russian people have a Russian Accent. British people have a British accent and Sothern people have a southern accent. That is truth not racism. Its not from a place of hate. Lots of things are not racist. I have not seen the Simpsons in forever I wonder who currently runs the Kwik-E-Mart?

Not only he ruined Star Wars and is ruining everything on Fox currently... the bastard also shut down Disney's traditional animation studio back in 2013. See, this is the problem when people complain about a character, especially from an animated comedy tv show like the simpsons no character on the simpsons is meant to be a real representation for any group, they are caricatures and exaggerations.. Apu was written as a kind, thoughtful, positive character, which was so much more important and impactful then a few jokes that all Simpson characters were and are subject to, regardless of race or gender or sexuality.. Now we have lost representation, lost a good character people loved, and what for? because of people who take offence to anything and everything

Boyd the Reaver also the Simpsons is based off of parody and satire, so it is understandable that some stereotypes make up their show, it's used to poke fun at society, but not to harm or target a specific group (groundskeeper willie and whatnot)
