People pretended to be butthurt because one triggered comedian decided it was offensive, I can guarantee that 99% of them taking offence at Apu aren't even Indian. I watched the show for years and it is CRAMMED with stereotypes - Germans, English people, Scottish people, I am Anglo-Celtic, I have a sense of humour, I love the absurd over the top (but very well-written, at its peak) stereotypes in the Simpsons

@@TheGreatGodPan And in The Simpsons the aim of the stereotypes is to poke fun but not to insult. I don’t recall any of the people being offended over Apu complaining even once about Family Guy and their stereotypes are designed to be blatantly offensive.

@@DownUnderPunk Family Guy is just tryhard "edgy" humour. The stereotypes in classic Simpsons are harmless fun, and almost everyone is ridiculed at some point. I also like how they make just strange and eccentric characters out of cartoonish stereotypes - Apu is just an odd person, same applies to Smithers when he wasn't simply "gay", but specifically "Burnsosexual" haha.

I have the feeling that Azaria based Apu's accent on Hrundi V. Bakshi, the character played by Peter Sellers in "The Party." They sound very similar. But hey, almost all the Indian characters speak more or less the same. Rajesh Koothrappali may be an exception ...

Hearing the voice is one thing... It's mind blowing to watch a voice actor perform it because you almost can't believe it when you see 1 person doing multiple characters that all have a different vocalization and tone and pitch. I feel as if voice acting is a bigger talent than we give credit to.

His Apu voice is pretty accurate to the point where it isn’t offensive, in fact Moe and Apu are hard working immigrants which is what you’ll find in Queens.
