Mark, This is one of the best KZfaq tutorials I have ever come across. Of course, it's always a good tutorial when you are successful installing something, but aside from that, I was able to add my Aqara sensors to Home Assistant with no problem. I got the ConbeeII mainly because your tutorial looked so good. Thanks mate. Looking forward to some actions and scripts using the goodies I have.

Thanks for this. I was pulling my hair out trying to get my non Aqara lights to talk to Aqara switches. This method looks like it will do the trick as it allows Aqara and non-Aqara devices to work in HA. This video also gives clear instructions to newbs like me on how to link the switches with the lights. My dongle is on its way and can't wait to try and bypass the whole Aqara walled garden. Aqara if you're listening, please open up your app and hubs to *everything* and many more people will buy your great products.

Many thanks for this video Mark! I have bailed on a Tasmotized Sonoff Zigbee-WiFi bridge, as it kept losing all the Zigbee devices and I had to re-sync them. Getting the Conbee II working on a dedicated Linux PC running Debian was easy (using a USB extension cable). Your video was just what I needed to get all my Zigbee devices working with Home Assistant. Enjoy your coffee (or beer!).

I fell down the rabbit hole of Aqara & Zigbee, trying to decide what would be the best combination of products to buy as a newbie to Home Assistant. I can't think of another video that I've seen that has covered everything that I have needed so well. Thanks! Time to fill that Amazon basket now and hope it does all come together so easily🤣

It started off well@@gackhuhn4868 . I had some sensors hooked up and sending me alerts. I have bought new products since that don't connect and I've since had other issues. I don't really have time to battle it in to compliance, so I've given up with it for the time being. When I have more time, I'll try and get what I had fixed again, but I won't be so eager to buy what I think are exciting looking Aqara products.

That vibration sensor I had for ages before I found a use. I have it on an autovent on my greenhouse. Rather than the vibration I read the angle using zigebee2mqqt to show if it’s closed ajar, half open or fully open and it works well. That combined with a temp sensor works great to make sure I know if things are overheating and the auto vent has a problem. Combined with Soil moisture and conductivity sensors to let me know when to water it’s a great system. Best crop of chillis I’ve ever had last year with this automation, some node red and a few alerts.

Great Video as always I've had troubles with the lux sensors on the motion sensors, because the lux sensor goes to sleep for a time and doesn't wake up on motion. So when the motion is triggered, and I check the lux . it not up to date, as its still asleep. I use the Deconz palate in Node Red. for my automations works well.

Hi Mark. You make instructional videos that are easy to follow for those who are new to this. But could you also make a video where you uninstall properly. I had a suspicion that something was wrong with my installation (nothing confirmed) so I wanted to remove and start over. It did not go so well, when I was going to make a password for conbee stick, my old configuration was in the background somehow. And beginners as I am, I took the safe before the unsafe. used a backup so everything is as usual again. But it would have been good to know how do I do a proper uninstallation with cleaning so nothing old is left behind. Have a good day and thank you for what you do.

I was only able to get the Mijia sensors and after watching this video, I really do prefer the Aquara ones as they have the little button on the contact sensor as well as the motion sensor. I always have to find a pin to put the sensors into paring mode, not to mention that the motion sensor does not have the lux sensor which really would be cool. A colleague of mine went to Shenzhen, China in 2019 and I gave him money and a shopping list and came back with all my sensors. He could only get Mijia and one or two Aquaras. I also use Deconz. Earlier this year I found a site here in South Africa that sells Xiaomi sensors, so I ordered more ... and again, they are the Mijia ones. They work great in any case. I use the vibration sensor in my postbox so when somebody lifts the postbox lid, I get a notification that there is mail - although mostly junk mail nowadays. lol

Hello Mark I enjoy your videos a lot and learn quite a bit about home assistant. I did buy the Aqara cube which I received today but it is a newer - different model from the one in your video. It is the model T1 Pro. All the existing blueprints do not really work for this newer version. When I shake the cube (for example) all the ZigBee controlled switches and plugs turn on. (All of them) Is there any plan of yours to test this new device as well? The installation I use is ZAH and I would like to know if this is a possible way at all to successfully implement the cube functions.

First thank you. You videos are a great help for getting started in HA. Using in about 3 months now. My largest issue is compatibility. Can the Aqara m2 be added to HA latest version (your video is some time ago) if a Nortek dongle is already used as a controller in Zigbee ? I have read that some sensors work better on the hub (vibration sensor). My set up is on a Dell Wyler 5060. Using HA OS.

Hi Mark, thanks for your videos, never miss them! I bought the ConBee II like you recommended in another video, but I have received it yet. I have a sonoff mini wired on to my dumb ceiling fan so I can turn it on/off with my voice. I was wondering if there is a way to set up a smart ZigBee button for my night table so i can turn the fan on/off with that. Any ideas on how I can accomplish this? Thanks again for your videos!
@MarkWattTech
@MarkWattTech 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Susan. You can get a whole bunch of different Zigbee buttons. You can pair them directly with your Zigbee manager (deConz / ZHA) and then use the button to trigger automations etc. Most buttons offer a few inputs (single press, double press. long hold). I recently made a video on some buttons I use and gave a few of my use cases (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gLJlh8Si3aqnnJ8.html) . In your case you would pair the button and then create a simple automation to toggle your ceiling fan on and off. Hope that's what you where after. If you need any help with it then feel free to give me a shout.

@Mark Watt Tech Hi. I have a question that I can't find an answer too. I hope you can answer it. The Conbee II can be used with the Home Assistant with 3 methods - ZHA, deConz and Zigbee2MQTT. What is the advantage of using MQTT? Please don't answer from ease of installation perspective. Think from MQTT perspective only when you answer. If deConz or ZHA can do the job, why involve another layer (MQTT) ? From my little experience of using Home Assistant (with 2 on Tasmota firmware), if things don't work for some reason, I run a mosquitto_sub command on my PC and check where the problem lies. That's the only use of MQTT I do consciously. My non-Tuya devices work just fine. If they are having trouble, I use their native app (e.g. Kasa) to see where the problem lies. Hope you can give an insightful answer. Thanks!

Hey David, thank you :) ZHA is simpler to setup but I think there is a fair divide between deConz, ZHA and Zigbe2Mqttt. For me personally I have just always used deConz. Never really had any issues with it so just going with the mindset of if it ain’t broken... :) For this particular setup I had a lot of people asking me about deconz and conbee II setups which I why I opted for this method. Cheers.

You can just use the "Device" trigger for the Aqara button, and then choose the trigger: button pressed, double-clicked, etc... However, that isn't the case for the Sonoff button which only has "Battery level changes" as a trigger. In which case, you do need the "Event" trigger, and have to remember the event type IDs :-(

Hey Rojo. It’s totally dependent on your setup and layout. I love the Conbee II and it works great. However I’ve been using the new Sonoff dongle for a while now and it has been solid. It’s also the cheapest of the 3. The E1 will only allow you to link Aqara devices and not other brands.

Hi Mark, great video! I was wondering whether you could shed some light on the following. I've got HA installed as a container on a RasPi 4 (bullseye). Got a Conbee II, launched a docker container with DeConz (marthoc), went to the phoscon app, authorized my HA and swoosh got it all working - perfect (first aqara sensor now running in a automation :-)). Now I noticed, you've got this fancy Phoscon side bar that you activated. I don't got that option with this method, but is there any way to get the sidebars working, on HA Container? How does this work in general? I'm pretty new to this all, and got HA running in a container because I also like to run other stuff on my RasPi.

I have a question if you possibly see this. I bought one of the Aqara mini switches to integrate into HA via the Conbee II and ZHA. I end up having a pretty long delay (sometimes longer than 10 seconds) after pressing the button (single click) to turn on a smart ceiling fan and light when it hasn't been used in a while. Sometimes I even have to press it again to get it to turn on. Is this normal behavior? I bought it thinking it would eliminate the delay that I was seeing using a Flic button and hub. I want to use the Aqara button instead, but am leaning toward going back to the Flic button, but connected to an old phone via bluetooth that can be left at home since the delay is much lower.
@MarkWattTech
@MarkWattTech 2 жыл бұрын
Is the device your turning on also locally controlled? If not that could be the cause of the delay. Battery powered Zigbee devices can go to sleep so if they’ve not triggered for a while there can also be a small delay. 10 seconds is a really big delay and definitely not what I would expect to see.
@ufninuyasha
@ufninuyasha 2 жыл бұрын
@@MarkWattTech It's wifi based (through Bond Home), but reacts pretty quickly (maybe a second or two?) when I turn it on or off through the HA dashboard. I would expect a small delay to wake up similar to what I see when I use the Flic button via bluetooth to the old phone, but not the long delay. That's why I was curious. I do want to add that after it has woken up, the response time is pretty quick, as is with the Flic through the phone, but the wake time seems very long. The battery is also reading 100%, so it shouldn't be a low battery issue.
@ufninuyasha
@ufninuyasha Жыл бұрын
@@MarkWattTech Well, not sure what has changed from them until now, but it seems to be working much better and faster now. I thought maybe I was pressing the button too quickly, but I don't think that was it because I do remember times that I held the button for a split second longer (not enough for a "hold" event), but it still acted the same when I did that before vs the second or two (maybe three?) that it takes to respond now.

In a simplified manner, most powered Zigbee devices will pass on and route messages for other devices. If you are using an SSD with the Pi (and just the Pi in general) it can cause a lot of interference (some adapters more than others with the Conbe II). Moving it away from this helps negate that interference. Another thing to try when pairing is to actually trigger the sensor while its pairing. So put the door sensor in pairing mode and move the magnet to and from it. It's a deConz thing.

It doesn't matter which one is added first (Let's call them device A and device B, the first one added will always be renamed correctly). I have confirmed this behaviour several times with 2 temperature sensors, 2 motion sensors, and 2 cubes. The same behaviour does NOT happen with Sonoff sensors, only with Aqara (I have 6 sonoff temperature sensors, and they were all correctly renamed).
