Join me on a little walk in a cow pasture and stream as I search for a snapping turtle to catch. I find a nice big one in the mud and call him Stubby. I'll also show you how to pick them up and how to NOT pick them up.

Also to add, pick them up by grabbing both the top and bottom parts of the carapace, just like Beau did. The turtle's backbone is fused to the top shell and if you only lift it up by the top shell it can fatally injure a turtle, especially a heavier species like a snapper.

KJ plenty of ways to hurt a turrtle when picking it up. Especially if it’s bigger. You wonder why people don’t hold puppies up by the tail? It may end up being soup as all mine do, but food deserves proper care and handling.

I found one in the middle of the road in the city. Very busy road and I’m surprised he made it to the middle. He was angry. I blocked traffic with my car while I tried to figure out what to put it in to transport it. He was a big one. So finally I just picked him up and put him in the passenger seat of my 300zx and took him down to a park with some swampy lakes. Fun adventure.

When I was seven years old I lived in South Dakota. In the summer I stayed with my Aunt and Uncle near Burke South Dakota. We would go fishing in Burke lake which was full of snapping turtles. I used a bamboo pole then. My cousins knew when I had a snapper on because I would drop my pole and takeoff running. I was scared to death of them. Thanks to my cousins. They told me if one bites me on the only way to get it off was to wait for a thunder storm and the thunder would scare them away. Karma if you want to call it that way but when I went to put another fish on it there were only fish heads on it except for my northern pike. It had not been touched. Everyone came running as I was laughing my head off. I still don't like those snappers. I enjoyed this video as it brought back memories of a good time.
@Xx1tyler21xX

My mom told us about the thunder thing. I had never heard anyone else say it until now. They used to bring me Terrapins or Box Turtles to play with when we were real young. I had seen Snappers so I knew what they could do so I was reluctant to touch the terrapin but momma said "it's ok they don't bite". Well she was wrong. Not sure exactly what happened but I was sticking my finger in it's face and it bit me.That wasn't the first time momma got me. She had me help her work on a push mower once that wouldn't start, so she had me hold the plug wire while she cranked on it to see if it was getting fire. It was getting fire.

I took her home and bought her a big pool and our yard was fenced in with a wooden fence so she could go to the pool and get out and walk around the back yard. I found a snapping turtle roaming about very close to the busy road we live on, so I figured rather than seeing him dead in the road later, I'd pick him up and move him back to the pond behind our house. I'm sure that is where he came from anyway. I figured I could handle it, he wasn't quite as big as the one in this video. I'd seen the turtle man show and remembered the way he handled them, so I picked him up by the tail at arms length and walked him all the way back to the pond and let him go. I'm sure I saved his life, but I feel bad now picking him up wrong. :( Thanks for educating the folks on the right way to pick up a snapping turtle.

I was enjoying myself fishing once, and this father and his 6 year old son came right up next to me and started fishing too. I would have been irritated by this but the dad was just teaching his son how to fish. I talked with them a little bit and the son hooked a snapping turtle. I helped them land it because it was a heavy sucker. When the dad took the hook out of the turtles mouth, the hook was bent into a straight line. That kid lost his favorite lure that day, but he can say the first thing he ever caught was a turtle. Fun day

Michael Pasek Well actually I didn’t, you just didn’t understand me correctly. I said I’m not sure if there were snapping turtles on the ark but I do know there were two kinds of every animal. There’s absolutely no contradiction here at all. Nevertheless brother how are you? Is there anything in your life you would like prayer for? Anything. I’ll be glad to pray for or with you😀👍.

You should put a common snapping turtle in a box, and give it to your worst enemy for christmas. Make sure that it says, "shake before opening". I'm kidding, of course; I would never do that to the poor turtle, but it's funny to joke about it.

Beau, I came across another snapping turtle yesterday in the road, but this time I was more prepared and I put my gloves on first and also it was just a little bigger that my hands clasped together. It was a lot nicer and It didn't try to bit at all. I got out of the road a good distance and I noticed another car and a lady got out but further down the road and said that was what she was going to do was get it out of the road. She was quite a distance away from the baby snapping turtle and I just got back in my car myself when another car that was in a hurry drove around me. Some people are only concerned about themselves. If you stop and think about it there were two cars stopped going different directions and here comes some jerk and flies around us without stopping to make sure we were okay. Anyhow if we didn't stop to rescue this baby snapping turtle this person that flew around us would have more than likely ran the poor thing over and it would have become vulture food.

***** , when we stopped no other vehicles where around. But they came pretty fast when they showed up. Got to be extra careful especially when you can't pull off the road due to steep decline of road to waters edge. Put hazard lights on.

As a kid in Minnesota, we all knew to carry sticks around the lakes. For the Snapping turtles. When you see one have it bite down on the stick and then it can't bite you. Make sure it is a real hard stick though because they will snap it in half! Better than your fingers!

I picked up a snapping turtle once from behind, just as described in the video (although it wasn't the type of turtle shown in this video), and the turtle suddenly snaked out her very long neck and reached all the way back and almost bit me! I dropped her in shock and surprise and her bottom shell cracked as she landed hard on a rock in the creek below... a hairline crack, but a crack all the same. She came every year to lay her eggs in the same place in the garden near the little creek that ran behind my house, and I felt so bad that I had inadvertently injured her, I never picked up a turtle again. I don't know if she ever came back to lay eggs as we moved the following year. But I still think about that turtle and wish I had just left her alone and admired her from afar. This was the only time I damaged an animal in my life, and I did not want to make that same mistake twice. Love all living creatures and want them to have a simple, safe life as much as possible with or without me being involved. Now I love nature and simply "observe from afar."

Thank you for telling people to not hurt them. They aren't evil. They are scared, and just want to be left alone. Watch the video called Why you never should tease a snapping turtle. They can jump up and bite if they are scared. Please leave them alone. They aren't mean. The snap is to help them catch a fish or frog to eat fast, before it gets away. Respect all life. 🙂
