Let's not forget certain fish flakes will also affect levels and cause green spot algea. I've had very little green spot algea in non planted aquariums.

When I have some GSA on Anubias, I just lower the water level, let the leaves to dry (about 2 minutes), then spray them with liquid carbon, wait for about a minute (max 2 otherwise you burn the plants) and then wash them with water. The GSA is completely gone in 3 or 4 days.
@DEPHi3
@DEPHi3 3 жыл бұрын
Don't do this with soft fast growing plants, the carbon will damage them. Anubias is hardy enough. I do this once a month and all leaves are nice and clean. And use some face mask or respirator, the carbon aerosol is dangerous.

I think I maybe have low phosphates as well, I only have 3 SAE, Did purchase 15pcs of Cardinal Tetras last week and bought Phosphate solution too with Seachem. I hope this time I can get rid of GSA..

Thanks Mj for this video and the rest of your algae series. After watching your videos so many time only realise that I actually might be lack in NPK because I always got GSA and also dust althought I dose consistent micros supplements using JBL ProfloraTab and Liquids and also JBL Kugeln. The growth of my AR and Limnophila Aromatica and all my fadt growers are superb but only lacking of the nice green colour. It's so obvious in my Anubias that shows yellowing on old growth moving inward. Just ordered JBL NPK and see whether it'll fix my GSA and yellowing Anubias issues. I come to this conclusion because realising I have very low bioload with only 6 Dwarf Rainbows and 5 tiny Guppies which I think won't supply enough waste, and some more I have medium lighting with CO2 injection. Keep flowing your awesome videos buddy 👊😎👍

What if your phosphate levels are high and you clean your tank regularly. What would you use to lower the phosphate levels?
@ityo39
@ityo39 3 жыл бұрын
Every planted tank has a different uptake of phosphates, so its hard to give a specific number, but EI method (Tom Barr) suggests there is not a case of too much nutrients..., whats your experience with npk levels vs algae ? Do you think they are related?

Hi sir, new subscriber here. I was watching your video on CO2 and adding gelatin very clever. I do use sugar and yeast and baking soda gives it a kick in the @#% !!! I like using the passive bell delivery system instead of a diffuser. For me it lasts for about 24 hours in the bell ,and at night my air pump on a timer it runs when the lights are off . Which the lights are on a timer also. With out timers it would be all most impossible to run a simple of sugar and yeast. Also have you heat of a system called (Anoxic Filtration systems ). If you have a chance check it out on you tube. Dr. Kevin Novak video Ok like to hear your take on it. Thanks john

Hi, i really appreciate the vid. I'm battling gsa atm. I really need your help. I need to know roughly how much phosphate to add to my set up thanks. I have a medium light pressurised co2 60L tank. Substrate : ADA power sand special( it has bacter 100 and clear super already added with the pumice stone) then i have flourite black sand on top. Ferts: i use Seachem root tabs, pps macro and pps micro liquid ferts. Plants: atm 1 anubias coffeefolia, 2 Anubius Lorraine, 1 Anubias nana white, 1 Buce brownie blue, 1 crypt pink flamingo, 6 ludwigia ovalis, half the tank is covered in floating plants dwarf water lettuce. And im waiting on my AR mini order to arrive. So how much phosphate for my set up?

green spot algae is much much more often caused by high light intensity with low phosphates combination than opposite.

hi my name is Abhi and i am from southern part of India.the base water which we have here is the normal ground well water.so if taking in that well water for setting up a planted aquarium,is it better to use the water after RO filtration or UV filtration or directly(scared for this option cos it definitly have algae particles)

Does it happen from "too clean" a tank? I have a 33 Gallon/125 Litre tank with 7 Platys, 7 Corydoras, 8 Neon Tetras and 1 Bristlenose Pleco and I do like 70% water change every week and vaccum the top of the sand and I always get this little circular algae growing on the glass in the bottom like 4 inches of the tank. It also grows on the leaves of a fake plant. I actually have 2 tanks the same and my other tank I only do like 40% water change on because it has an external filter that has an intake just below half way down and I keep it on working during water changes and in that I only get the green dust type or slime type which a Bristlenose and 2 Nerite snails eat so I like that but on that other tank I do bigger water changes and I dont get that type but the spot type?
@MJAquascaping
@MJAquascaping 3 жыл бұрын
That could be! If your tank is too clean, there is a good chance that your phosphate levels are very low, which will then result in GSA

I am so silly I thought my plants were nutrient deficient so I added liquid fertilizer ( plus a second light ). Within few days the algae gets much worse actually. Then I realize it’s algae ( still in cycling period )

same here.. installed a light with dimmer, reduce liquid dosing ,did water changes a lot and manually remove affected leaves , lost many plants . now after almost 2 months it seems to have lowered a lot , still in my tank but tolerable..

So I'm struggling with GSA in my 60L planted tank, been using tropica specialized fert but my phosphates keep bottoming out to 0 daily, so I have been dosing flourish phosphate to 1 ppm but test the next day and its back to 0. Its been about 2 weeks now and the GSA is getting worse even with the daily does of phosphates... any idea what the issue here might be? Its mostly on the plants with very few spots on the glass. Any help would be realllyyyy appreciated, watched this vid like 7 times and downloaded the algae guide, its been driving me mad😅

Unrelated to this video but do you have any filter recommendations for a dennerle scaper's tank 35l with DIY co2? I was going to run a small sponge filter and hide it behind some plants but I feel like that will cancel out the co2. (stocking endlers and neocaradina shrimp) Thanks.
