Hi Legends,
Its a long and often made debate about whether it is better to heat your tanks individually or just to heat the entire room.
In today's video I run through my thoughts on what factors to consider in order to make an informed decision.
Hope it helps.

As you said mate, insulation is the key. If you have a dedicated space or room for your fish, heating it can become incredibly cheap and efficient.

I just built my fish room super insulated . I also did cross vents in the roof . Window for ventilation. I am only using some extra mini space heater on each side of room and a window air cond, All of these are left over from other projects. Thet do quite well because i focused on insulation when i built the room. Plus the room is 10 foot tall and built as a lean to roof not a gable so the air circulates better. I also have all the electrical set up so i can do a easy conversion to a mini split if i decide to do that. My dehumidifier keeps the room comfortable. My old fish room has the mini split and it works very well and saves money. Yes set the temp for the lowest side in the fish room and then you only have to run a few small heaters in your specialized temp tanks. I really hate heaters and now i am tring to get away with 50% of my tanks with no or little water changes and doing more fish outside in the warmer months. Keep up the good work and love your channel.

Blake, I use heaters in my tank although it’s been a lot warmer this year. So I keep the house around 76 or so the heaters barely have to warm up the water which is a cost savings. Plus I have solar also so hopefully offsets the cost. Things have gotten way more efficient now with heaters and Filters. Do more with less energy. But yeah plug space definitely hurts.

Less cords and plugs is the biggest attractor for me to swap to room heating. My room is terribly insulated though, so main reason I haven't gone that way to date. I might have to try it for a week and see how they power bill goes for a bit. Great topic Blake 👍

We have a wood fired stove going 24/7 in the house.But I run in tank heaters for backup but don't really do much work.I run hygger titanium heaters.

If I had a dedicated fish room, I would heat it rather than use individual heaters, it just seems like the most sensible and safest thing to do. But I only have 8 nano tanks spread throughout 3 different rooms, so it's individual heaters for me.

Can a 100w heater keep betta temperature in a 15 celsius room temp? I live in canada and the room more suitable for a tank is the one doesn't get heated constantly.

Definitely heaters for me, I can’t tolerate the heat myself, fish be damned lol just kidding, all kidding aside I do use heaters it would cost more I think to heat my basement fishroom, and some of my fish require a bit more heat. Hard to accommodate all with 1 solution.

Another option ... and I dont know how effective this is... but say, heating the room to 25, and then some of your warmer tanks a little warmer with in tank heaters, eg 28. Thoughts on that?

Just installed a split system in my garage and im now in the process of moving my tanks out from inside. I'm really hoping it doesn't cost me any more than the in tank heaters, otherwise I reckon I'll end up having to live in the garage with the fish.

Curious, what temp is your axolotl tank? I have an axolotl tank with a chiller that I set at 21c max (3yrs now) sitting at average 19 for our winter. I'm in Northern NSW so I need it in summer. Wish I could heat the room, but my 12 tanks are spread throughout the house, 4 being on the back patio, so they are my main concern in our winter. Helps when we live in subtropical areas 😊 😂 at the spouse comment

Any concern with leaving the oil heather on 24hrs a day? They say to never leave it unattended.
@BlakesAquatics

Mines been on 24 hrs a day for 2 years albeit for a few power outtages. I think its mainly because kids may tip them or burn themselves that people say that
@deneng0259
@deneng0259 Жыл бұрын
@@BlakesAquatics Yes that is why people say that as i have also heard,but also have heard that the oil heaters are best. Look for the one with 2 setting 750 watts and 1500 watts.

Does anyone know how big do baby guppies have to be before I can put them with the adult guppies aside from the general statement that anything that can fit in any fishes mouth is fair game. I was hoping to find out if wake up you should be like a quarter inch or half inch because I seriously doubt that needs to be like a whole 1 inch because surely a quarter inch or half inch is enough for them to grow out and be put with the adult puppies, because I don’t want my babies to get eaten.
@BlakesAquatics

Hey mate unfortunately there are no guarantees in fishkeeping. Some guppies are fine from birth others will hunt down a 3/4 in fry

@@BlakesAquatics Thank you very much for your response my friend. I fully understand. Just buy coincidence the same evening. I asked this question 🙋‍♂️ I just decided at the last second to take my 2 favourites beautiful dark blue beautiful guppies covered in the crazy iridescent colouring Like Straight out of the Avatar movies & just get them in with the adults but they have tons of space to hide. I’ve got that full on multi tank syndrome my friend. I have 7 small aquariums, all 29 L except 52 L & 2 Tiny cube tanks & 2 10 gallon terrarium was that I set up for a girl scorpion 🦂& boy scorpion 🦂 to live separate. Anyway my point is my Daughters (who I see on the weekends) & my place is a tiny little apartment in the middle of the city. The previous family home is in Werribee & I tried going to Geelong but only manage to stay in Corio with a house for a few months but needed resources in the city. Anyway maybe one-day in the future I can meet you. I wish you the best my friend to your twins (unless I’m mistaken you said you had some twin boys I think) & your partner & I also wish the best outside of our personal families to our Hobby “Fish fam. clan”. Good thing, guppies breed like rabbits 🐇. This way, it won’t hurt my feelings too much when a bunch of them get knocked off by missed dragonfly or damsel fly nymphs🧚. I even got several yabby’s in my tanks on a few occasions but it’s totally my fault because I like getting stuff from local Waterways so I totally have it coming. I’m building furniture to accommodate all this so meanwhile I just have stuff set up temporarily. All about the planted method so eventually every single tank will be a planted tank. Meanwhile it’s just a whole lot of everything everywhere. I feel so privileged when you respond because I know you’ve got a lot of people coming at you so thank you very much once again for the reply.
