I have one tank, plan to do another tank soon. I basically do the same as what you do but mine take longer because I use filtered water + RO/DI water. Took me 20 mins do clean, trim back for mine 60x40x40cm planted tank but another 30mins just to fill it up. I am gonna be using tap water for my second tank. Ideally I want to spend 1 hour per week for maintainance. Thanks for sharing your routine, beautiful tanks btw.

My maintenance process is very similar to yours. I have 3 aquariums, one is 120 liters and requires the most maintenance as it has a carpet of monte carlo, lots of stem plants, and moss so trimming days take much longer. The other 2 are nanos and are very low maintenance as they are not running co2 and mainly have low demand plants requiring some easy trimming here and there. Takes me around an hour total for a normal maintenance day on all 3 tanks, but a lot more time if I am trimming and doing other maintenance that I don't do every week. I like doing my maintenance on Monday though because it's a nice way to relax after going back to work on Monday and I see my tanks the most on the weekdays so it's great to see them looking pristine.

I currently have a 8.5L planted tub with 2xmicro sponge filters and a trio of cherry shrimp, and a 57L bow-front newly planted tank. I spend an inordinate amount of time with them, doing bits of maintenance as I go. Suck out some old food here, a water test there, a few hours spent meditatively observing the shrimp graze, Oh it's been a week, ok I'll change the water. Ah, it's morning, time for a dose of bacterial culture. It's a constant, ongoing coexistence with the other life in my home, including cats, terrestrial and aquatic plants, and a couple other humans.

Nice one MJ.....I tanked far too long with my tanks....taking me 2 hrs just to do the ADA60P and a 45L hugo kimishi scape. Hi Mark I just came across your video right now. Your video was very informative. Full of important content and straight to the point. Good job! I've noticed that you really did not siphon your substrate or your carpet plants that much. I just want to know if siphoning of substrate is not that necessary every maintenace? Just a simple water change will do? Keep up the good work and please continue sharing your knowledge about aquascaping. Stay safe.

5 heavily planted, low tech tanks - about 10-20 minutes per tank (buckets & siphon hose) depending on size & not counting how much time I spend watching my fish & assorted oddballs after maintenance lol. Only one I really have to stay on top of pretty much weekly because I have vallisnaria which would otherwise run wild. Many of my plants are slower growers. My smallest tank, a 3 gallon (wall mounted) with a few male endlers, some cherry shrimp & an assassin snail (I toss in snails from other tanks for him), requires the least work oddly enough. Can go 2-3 weeks without a water change & have had zero issues w wild parameter swings (knocking on wood).

@MJAquascaping
@MJAquascaping 3 жыл бұрын
I would say 1 part bleach to 20 parts water. I usually soak it for 10 minutes, then rinse for 10 minutes as well. Don't be afraid, if you follow these guidelines there is not much that can go wrong. And as I mentioned in the video I leave the CO2 on while it is soaking in the bleach solution.

Biggest one is a 75 Gallon. Tanks is fairly stock maybe more than normal. Do a weekly water change about 50% on all plus some maintenance. I do struggle with Fish dying, about 4 per week in total for over 200 fish. Is this normal. The Dutch scape has a JBL e701 The 70 liter scapers tank has a jbl e902 The 20 liter cube has a very small internal filter (superfish aquaflow 50 i believe) The 36cm nano has a Dennerle Scapers flow filter. You can also find the links to these filters in the video description!

Hi, Im newbie. You replace some percent of the water with only fresh tap water from sink right ? Then is it safe ? or we need RO water.. ? Then if we use tap water should we put chlorine product in it...thanks !
@MJAquascaping
@MJAquascaping 2 жыл бұрын
Here in the Netherlands the tap water is pretty good, and doesn't have any chlorine. I don't know where you live and how good the quality of your tap water is over there, so I can't really answer your question.

So you use the water straight from the tap? You don't treat it in any way, or let it stay on buckets before putting it in the tanks? What is the pH and dH of your tap water? (Sorry about posting a bunch of questions on your videos, old and new. I just found your channel!)
@MJAquascaping
@MJAquascaping 2 жыл бұрын
Ph is roughly 7 to 7,5 and dHis around 9ish. Yep straight from the tap with no additives

@@MJAquascaping Guessing you don't have chlorinated water where you are! Someone asked how you get the water out of the tank, I'd like an answer too. Guessing it's not siphoned since it looks like your sink is the same level as your tank? Are you using the same Cadrim pump in reverse?
@MJAquascaping
@MJAquascaping Жыл бұрын
@@missvmartin6571 Correct! No chlorine in the water here. I drain the small tanks with a short hose in a bucket, and the bigger tanks with a long hose directly in the toilet

@@MJAquascaping thanks. I'm about to go to my local shop to source a pump/hose/inlet combination - like yours - to help with filling up. Have had koi for years and have gardened (plantaholic!) for decades, rapidly succumbing to multiple tank syndrome and making a few of the usual beginner mistakes! Would you have otos in a 40L or is it too small? I have two 40s, and a just-bought 22 and 80L.
