This is for me the ultimate fish tour. It changed to way i keep my tanks. Leaving the back glass uncleaned in some of my tanks and no more overcleaning. Fish seem to interact with the environment and do well. Who needs a background when you can grow a natural one. I also grow algae under control on some rocks. Actually quite pretty. I grew up near a creek that drained a forest and adjoining marsh. The creek supported rainbow trout. Where the current was slow, there was muck over a foot deep in places. Any of the rocks under water were covered with algae or biofilm. As long as the water quality is good, there's lots of beneficial organisms in mulm and biofilm.

@ladylrbnaturelife
@ladylrbnaturelife 5 жыл бұрын
Great video Jason!! You're so right about a "non-spotless" tank being perfect for the fish! If you're keeping a beautifully pristine aquascaped tank, that's great! You just have to be honest with yourself, that's about the plants, not about the fish. Sure the fish can survive, but it's not their natural habitat. If you look at any of these fishes natural habitats, they are NOT spotless

Those tanks are great! My 50gal tank looks something like those here. Certainly the fish are not "flying" like you'd see in crystal clear water tanks. However, my fish are healthy and happy, the water params are near perfect. I'm going for a natural look in that tank so there is only absolutely necessary maintenance happening. Sort of like in a national park. I'd never film it and put it online, the hate would be brutal. It's good to see that I'm not the only one doing it that way. Sort of like a snapshot of a riverbed in your home. Thanks for the video and all my love to the shop featured!

I LOVE Geophagus as I own several Sveni myself so I really enjoyed seeing those... but some of the other fish like the Ikari were brilliantly colored... very unique looking fish... makes me want some for myself! Thank you again for taking the time instead of rushing through so many tanks. My thinking is that fish living in a natural (or as natural as we can make a glass box) environment will tend to be more relaxed and happy which leads to good health. Also the naturalistic not over cleaned style leads to an abundance of microflora and fauna so the adults know there is plenty for fry to eat, hence more breeding. Just my theory anyway.

I don't think a lot of people realize that algae is actually healthy for an aquarium, it's just that it can choke out plants and it looks "ugly", so most of us try to avoid it. I don't bother removing algae from my back glass or from hardscape.
