Plus, spiders wouldn't be able to hold up their own weight once they reach a certain size. Their legs would need to develop disproportionately larger and stronger in order to hold themselves up, let alone walk and hunt.

Arachnophobia and fear of snakes must be an ancient human phobia. They asked a lot of inner-city kids what did they fear the most and it wasn't what you think they would say, they said they were afraid of spiders and snakes. The closeup shots of the spiders always made them super creepy. That said, in my more recent years I've been challenging my phobias with spiders and other general dislikes, like broccoli and Brussel sprouts. I found a spider living in a hollow tube I'd left on my window ledge ... and decided not only to let it be, but use it to get rid of pesky little window flies by placing the tube over the fly. I expected the fly to get caught in the web, but the spider seemed to get the idea and would scurry down, catch the fly and then return to the web. I actually missed him when he disappeared :(

Probably not unsurprisingly, to my memory this is the movie that gave me arachnophobia. I consciously remember thinking something along the lines of, "wait, spiders can KILL you?! No thank you!" Even if I'm not afraid of spiders, I enjoyed this movie because of the suspense, the chills, the themes involving invasive species, the casting, and the character development. My parents hated it because of how 'creepy' the movie was, even I told them it was meant to be a horror movie.

Its not necessarily the spider itself that gives me a phobia, but the sheer speed of most species. I love Granddaddy Longlegs, for example, because theyre slow and eat other spiders, but I hate the native garden spiders that we get here in Arkansas. Sure, their bite is mostly painless and is completely harmless, but they move light Usain Bolt during his peak, and thats what I hate about them lol

Spiders have very little reason to climb into a bag of crisps, or a bowl of popcorn. In fact, there's a possibility that the salt in the seasoning could severely irritate and burn their 'skin'. The spiders in the movie climbed into the bowl because the plot needed them to.

Good movie. I remember this well. Jamie Hyneman of the Discovery series Mythbusters did the effects.

The one scene till this day, will always be, when Jeff Daniel’s is throwing alcohol on the egg sack and the General comes out and does this pop out and hiss stance. Scared the fucking soul out of me.

This movie freaked me out as a kid, but as an adult this is one of my favorite Monster Movies.

Made me scared as a kid. Made me laugh as an adult. Perfect horror-comedy.

I must have seen this when i was 4 or 5 in the early 90’s. One of the earliest movies I remember watching. It definitely gave me a moderate amount of arachnophobia watching it way too young haha

I've been bitten by a spider while cleaning the parking garage at work too, which doesn't bother me.

My brother made me watch this movie when I was about 8 years old. This movie created my phobia of spiders. Though I've overcome it now, some spiders still give me the creeps.
