I quite like the Tau, and appreciate how jaded they became after encountering the rest of the galaxy.

I like the tau, but the jadedness never really made sense to me. They've had space travel for thousands of years and have fought orks for thousands of years - given they've met a lifeform that literally can only partake in war, and have regularly fought it to the point of designing a lot of their weapons with ork physiology in mind (hence why pulse rifles are such overkill on humans), you'd think the tau would honestly be relieved to find out most lifeforms in the galaxy are possible to communicate with

This was the one I was kinda looking forward to as a Tau Player, but I gotta admit it is kind of a strange story and a little disappointing. For an end campaign surprisingly not a whole lot has been "resolved?" I suppose the main one here is that it confirms the wards found are explicitly Dark Angel related, but we also got that from just looking at Farsights new model. A couple character are taken out, but I had to double check here. Brightsword is already someone who has died multiple times and their name is passed down. Bravestorm is the one whos suit is a life support system so his situation is not much different. So not much being shaken up there either! I am still hoping GW would fulfill the setup from the codex, that they want to use the Wormhole tech they used in creating the Startide Nexus to make their own tunnels throughout the galaxy. i kinda thought thats what their Tarot were implying, with the "Fool" being an Ethereal making a costly mistake, and the Tree of Life having imagery tying back to the spheres of Expansion. I guess those more just meant "Ethereals are petty evil bastards" and "the planet now has something living on it" Lastly, it is said for the Tau, that a noble last stand is the mark of an incompetent commander, and along with all the Chaos Temptations, I was hoping at least for something a little more personal as a journey for Farsight. It doesn't even sound like we get the classic Mecha trope of "gets in the new suit to signify a change in character" thing. Ah well, in the end it doesn't mess with my renegade Tau lore, so its all good.

I still think that the Tau opening a wormhole straight to the Ghoul Stars has such huge story potential. The place has little Imperial presence and it's full with horrors for the Tau to react to. This way we could be discovering new lore alongside the Tau instead of waiting for them to catch up to existing lore. Not only that but this could also showcase the strengths of the Tau, by having them being able to eventually adapt to the region and even being able to negotiate with some of the nightmarish xenos there.

When the new Farsight model was shown, I saw so many people insist that there was no connection between the hexagrammaton symbol on the Talisman of Arthas Moloch on Farsight's armour (the magical rock that nullifies psychic power) and the Dark Angels who loved dressing up with that symbol in 30k (and run around with little magical dudes who nullify psychic power), and that it was a complete coincidence..................... 😂 can't wait for the next book. Not necessarily coïncidence but not necessarily causality either ;) In "Farsight" they describe the city on Arthas Moloch as belonging to a long gone alien race, never mentioning that it was a gue-la civilisation. There is even an inquisitor coming along the team Farsight in the cockpit of the broadside of O-blotai, and there is never a hint or a comment on her part showing that she would recognize the architecture, or the statues as being of human origin ! So it is strongly implied that the original Molochite civilisation was not human, but still were using these hexagrams. The sword that Farsight borrows was held by a statue, again not being described as being human, and the sword doesn't seem to be of imperial origin whatsoever, so I really don't think that the city on Arthas Moloch was not imperial, not even human, but the native Molochite civilization knew the power of those symbols. I think that the symbols related to Chaos, whether they are pro or against it, are kinda universal, so the Dark Angels came to use these symbols for the same reason the Molochite did, without necessarily being a link between the two. It is also showed in many books that many human cultures discovered the powers of the symbols linked to Chaos (the Davinite for example), so the Dark Angels are almost certainly NOT the only human faction to know about the power of the hexagrammaton ;) Although, the Key was indeed found on a Dark Talon as it seems, but the Dark Angels investigating symbols of Power along the galaxy and collecting every piece of knowledge in these domains is not a shocker ! :)

I had thought that was what the Tarot were aiming towards. In the Codex they implied they were planning on using the same wormhole tech again for new Spheres of Expansion, creating a network of tunnels throughout the galaxy, and expanding the reach of the Empire. I was expecting the Fool to represent the Empire sending help through one of those, but of course it pokes a big hole into the warp and it releases a ton of demons out, killing even more. But I guess it just means "haha Ethereals are dumb and petty" again. Also "tree of life" is such an evoketive thing, and to hear it doesn't really amount to much is super lame. Even the Farsight/Dark Angels connections are kinda underplayed. Wanna see some weird allies dang it!

I feel like farsights sword isn’t of demonic origin, it seems more likely, to me, it’s from the necrons or the old ones, it doesn’t look very chaosy, and they’re very particular about their aesthetic, a super advanced sword that provides health and longevity sounds like the kind of weapon the necrons would have wanted back when they were organic and genetically frail and riddled with cancer. Maybe an ancient necron leader got their hands on old one tech and weapons and that’s where the sword comes from. They were obsessed with immortality and longevity. And a super advanced sword that gives you that at the expense of your enemies sounds right up their alley. Especially considering how brutal life was in necron society.

Yeeah, I mean I kinda dig that Aun'Va is dead and all, but I feel like the Tau do get shanked by their characters age a fair bit. Aun'Shi is just too darn old by this point. O'Shassera being in Cryostasis 95% of the time to at least preserve some screentime. Same for Mon'tau Kais. As for the other characters. We have the one story about longstrike oneshotting that titan (which the imperials countered by oneshotting a hammerhead with a titan in the most petty bit of lore ever). Darkstrider who... A lovely read, thank you. Although I have to admit that Arks of Omen has been crushingly disappointing for me. Gathering Storm (the last Primarch revival) had massive, galaxy shaking events, status quo changes, consequences and stakes. Terra was under attack, Cadia fell, Biel-tan was crushed, the rift opened, the Primaris emerged... But Arks of Omen, supposed to be the next of that scale has just had absolutely nothing happen. Book 1 was just introducing Vashtorr and a couple random nothings. Book 2 was a random world introduced simply to die in the same book for no change. Book 3 took the grand villain it's all supposed to be about and had him get humiliated and beaten in his own first outing. Book 4 he doesn't even turn up in and really all that happens is "The Alpha Legion take a thing". Now Book 5 is suddenly supposed to be a primarch coming back? Compared to Gathering Storm is just a load of nothing for what should be on the scale of that previous series. The new villain has been made to look pathetic at every turn, and absolutely nothing is happening 4 books in.

With so many factions, it is pretty difficult to give them all a time on center stage. I was just about to comment how it’s nice to see orks but wish we’d get something more substantial, but it occurs to me that at least the orks are present. Other factions haven’t got even that much My other favorite faction, Genestealer cults, don’t even have any big lore characters to cheer on like Farsight, Abbadon, or Yvraine

I know tau has little understanding of threat the chaos poses, but holy shit I didn't expect this level of ignorance from farsight!. Like, imperial forces will exterminatus themselves then willfully unleashing a daemon horde to take down their enemies.

To be honest it makes sense. Farsight realistically does not know much about chaos. He just has alot of encounters with them. Its not like he has any records that he can refer to regarding them. Hell most tau believe deamons to just be weird aliens. With that in mind, why wouldn't he release what to him is just an environmental hazard onto a planet he wasn't planning on sticking around on.

I would have had the Tau Empire come to the aid of Farsight. It would have progressed the lore meaningfully and could have opened up the potential of Aun'Va Holograms being replaced by a more level headed Etheral Supreme. Nope, its just the same thing its always been for the Tau, no real development outside of some paragraphs in a Codex.

I like how the Alpha Legion appears to be a truly divided force in the 41st Millennium: Some appear to be secret Loyalists (although their methods might raise eyebrows..), but others are fully corrupted - and even those are divided into warbands which seem to serve different masters? ... That being said, I'm a little dissapointed with the Tau. For a book called "Farsight", his character doesn't reeaally have much to do with the overall story - more like a catalyst to push forward the narrative for other characters? It just feels like this book was a missed opportunity to venture into more depths of the Enclave/Tau Empire story.

Im Loving these Arks of Omen Story Threads!! I cannot wait to see how the last chapter plays out! I hope they bring back another Primarch at the end of 10th Edition, like they have done with 8th-E & now 9th-E. I would LOOOVE to see a grizzled & aged, but wiser Jaghatai Khan return. Along with shit-tonnes of new Aeldari/Drukari/Harlequin/Cegorach/Commorragh/Black-Library/Webway extended LORE to go alongside him & his 10k Journey. That would be the definite direction I would take the setting and guide the writers into, if I had any control of the company. But Unfortunately, that is probably the LEAST LIKELY direction GW is going to head into. Seeing as how they Hate Aeldari and always leave them hanging, as well as the White Scars being the most SLEPT-ON Loyalist legion… If i where to put money on a prediction, I would bet an entire paycheq that the next returning Loyalist Primarch is going to be. . . . . . . . Leman Russ… as much as it pains me to say that, people love the space wolves. Which makes Russ seem like the smartest next move for revenue generation.

@@cormack6492 but they're constantly on battle and most campaigns are what 18 months to a few years at a time? @@isawaryokage its a combination of the numbers not really adding up and tau technology. The have methods to expand their live like the Imperium, they use cryo sleep, some comanders are purley ai named after the person the ai is build of, some are clones that carry the same name but are actually multiple persons. And probably more ways. The tau carry their name as a title so there were multiple brightswords (i think it was brightsword) which are always referred to as the same persons, when it actually were clones of the original.

Kind of cool that they're making Farsight into a case study on how a noble warrior would slowly be corrupted by Khorne. As it's sometimes implied that Farsight is more of a title than a single person, I wonder how many of them have already fallen to chaos and quietly removed by his peers
