Your videos are hands down the best GIS videos on KZfaq. So clear, so informative, and not boring! Thank you for putting in the time and energy to create them. I've shared them amongst the GIS people within my department and going to post onto Twitter and Reddit bc I think a lot more people in GIS (amateurs or advanced) could learn a lot. Thanks again :)

Glad you are enjoying the content. Thanks for spreading the word, I could use all the exposure I can get. I don’t know if you’ve seen one of my videos where I’m begging people to get interviewed, but I’m still looking for candidates- would you be willing to chat with me for an hour? It wouldn’t go on the channel, this is an assignment I have for a class I’m taking.

Very good video. I have been doing GIS for over 17 years and because of the nature of my job, I've not had to learn these more robust features. However, it's always good to learn as much as you can in your chosen field of work and this has given me so much more information on how this part of GIS works. Thank you very much for your videos.

@@GISChops Nothing specific. I'm starting the transition to Pro. Loved your mask transparency technique to show only the line work on the SD plat. Most of the plats I georeference have quite a bit of "background noise" and its usually easier to leave the background unmasked. Thanks again for your content.

Great video, i started working for the local tax appraisal office and been there just under a year now and work in the ownership/mapping department. Our mapping person has never been trained on ArcGIS. I just saw that we know nothing regarding creating parcels using the sub plats. I have set my goal to purchase a personal account for GIS and learn the mapping. I’m pretty sure your channel will come in very handy…thanks for the great content. Oh and by the way, when I saw that gaming keyboard/mouse I almost yelled YEAH hahaha. I use my Logitech Pro mouse in the office, so useful with the 4 macro buttons. Anyways, thanks again.

Greetings! I am finding your videos to be quite an excellent tool since they are clear and concise. Is there anyway you can do another video on Subdivision entry, but this time can you spend a few more minutes explaining how to enter/read curve data from the plats? I am struggling understanding or reading the actual plats and knowing when or where the data starts/stops and applies to when entering this with the Traverse tool. Please help a budding GIS technician!!

@@GISChops Yes! So cool! Can you pick a Plat that is from the 1970s and probably has some printed/calculetd errors, like the one I'm using now 😄? What I wouldn't give to have just one hour of your expertise in person! I'm struggling with subdivision cul-de-sacs and also know how to get my head around using the radius (on the ROW) curve data for parcel edges and just even getting across the street to start a new block (when the parcels don't touch!)
@GISChops
@GISChops 2 жыл бұрын
Back in those days they labeled as little as possible because it was done by hand, leaving it up to the reader to deduce a lot of the information. They may have labeled the radius of the centerline making us add or subtract to get the ROW radius. Can you send me the plat with which you’re having trouble? My email is my channel name, no spaces at gmail dot com.

The menu ribbon at the top of my screen doesn't have the "Records" and "Quality" tabs. Is this a special add-on software I must purchase from ESRI or is it possible to include by going to Options? I didn't find it in options. Thanks.

Getting ready to migrate to ArcGIS Pro from ArcMap and I am not looking forward to this! Just from watching a few videos like yours, it looks like there a quite a lot more steps involved in PRO than in ArcMap. I do have to ask how you got the plat into a layer and draw off of that?

Thought I would ask here since you are using the Traverse tool. I am having a devil of a time figuring out why when I COGO in Map Vs Pro I get two different line lengths. I seems like the Traverse tool in Pro is measuring the Planer length while Map is using the Geodesic Length. How do you change the length on the line segment in Pro to show the Geodesic length so that my work in Pro wil l match that in Map? Thanks for your time. Love the videos.

@@GISChops it has to be in the options or how my project was imported into Pro. I set up a new Project in Pro to test and it works fine. I am just stumped as to why it happens in an old project. I type in a bearing and distance in traverse and it labels it as correct but if you go to the measure tool and change between Planar and Geodesic you get two different distances. I am stumped!
