In this week's ancient history news my headline story is about the excavation of a site in France that was in use during the Neolithic, Iron Age and Roman period. The site is centred on a spring which appears to have had ritual significance to different cultures over the millennia. I then discuss the discovery of an unusual ancient funerary monument, also in France, the excavation of a Neolithic settlement in Serbia and the detection of a subsurface structure in the Western Cemetery of the Giza Plateau in Egypt.

Bonjour from France. Born and raised in Anjou, I remember my grand-dad telling me the village we lived in, Andard, used to be the capitale of the gallic tribe of the Andegaves. Then Cesar came... the village disappeared. I'd love to know more about my ancestors' fate. Bonne journée.

I found the structures at the clay pits in France intriguing. The principle foundation had an unusual layout with the circular and semicircular patterns. It makes me wonder about the use of the original structure. The discovery in Egypt is also important. That space has appeared to be suspiciously empty. Makes me wonder what is below. Why did that space never have a Masaba? Great information as always! Thanks Laura!

hey, Barry👋 agreed, all around....if the structure continued to follow those shapes in it's walls....a weird building, for sure🤔 more on that site will be coming, i hope.... yes, the space bare of surface structures on Giza IS mysterious.....surrounded by mastabas, but nothing in that large space.....has to be something subterranean, right? or, was it being saved for something that never was built? hopefully, they'll be allowed to excavate....don't see any other way to find out what's what. catch ya later

hiya, Laura! missed the premiere by 2 minutes😭😬 oh well, next time?🤞 that ancient sites have been used by different cultures over millenia is not so mysterious.... a good site with water and old structures is a ready- made sanctuary for those who find it. as you said, why not repair or rebuild rather than start from scratch....and potable water on site makes it even more valuable. yes, another vid on this subject, please! and, any new info on those strange circular and stirrup shaped foundations, too🤩 cool, wondrous items, my dear.....thanks!
