My brass thumb ring wasn't comfortable for prolonged use at 45# plus bows so after watching your new ring I had a go and made my own out of wood and a leather tightening strap...😃 Unbelievably comfortable and crisp release. Thank you 🙏

Thanks for the great review! I personally think these are the most comfortable ring we offer, just so much area across which the force is distributed. Definitely takes some getting used to though. It is worth noting we tweaked the size of these to work with a tapered leather tab or wedge and that is "built in" so anyone who orders one doesn't need to request a different size to accommodate leather.

Hi Armin, thanks for the video. Might i suggest using a bow that draws farther back, as you would using a korean bow. Youre drawing 3-4 inches less than you should, i think that will change how the ring feels!

Thank you Armin for your nice video. I got one last year and I had no clue how to use it ... I tried a few times in different ways and it just flied off my finger or it interfered with the string. Now I would like to practice with it again and this video helps a lot. I think this is the only video available that explains how to use this particular type of thumb ring, in English.

My segye bow from alibow isnt here yet either. I just had my second back surgery yesterday so I'm down for 6 weeks minimum. So Armin keep those videos coming. Its about the only way i can get my archery fix. :)

I do my best, but when I dont get my bows what can I do. Just received notice, that one bow from Indonesia is now seized because the bowyer used "indian rosewood"... he built the bow from scrap wood...

It is even more useful when shooting powerful bows. To fix the arrow, the releasing wrist should twist slightly. > That's a trick. But it is not an item for horseback riding. :)

I could see where using the middle finger would be easier. I've never tried a thumb ring before. I'll have to try that

The lever itself should imitate the shape of a thumb for maximum result. There should be an offset angle to accommodate the different length of index, and middle finger joints for a straight pull. That's why it feels uneven when you put both fingers on, and you felt better with just middle finger on it. You can make adjustments to anything, but the goal should be to make it as close as possible to your female thumb ring, or bare finger so you wouldn't have to make big adjustments going back and forth. You can achieve the desired angle either by adjusting your ring, or by making a ring with an offset built on it.

Its clearly adding a lag to the release, dragging the string even after you have released it

Ya thaght's right I'm Attacking all your Old Video's tonight. Just like You, I have Over worked Both Shoulders, my Back, Right Thumb, My Right Pointer finger at the First knuckle in the hand, where I twist the String/Arrow, & my left thumb 30 min ago was Superglued to a scrap of Leather making Thumb Ring. The Glue thing just sent me over the Edge. Looking for a nice fitted, Comfortable thumb ring, So I'm open to any Suggestions I can Get. No worry about something not working out. Because It's all Hit and Miss at this Stage. So Fire Away. The 2 Bow's I have are the Qinghai 40 lbs @ 28" & 52 lbs @ 33" / The Segye 45 lbs at full

Is there any noticeable loss of velocity with the ring? Seems like that big tongue would have a lot of drag on the string.

This type of ring can make you understand and correct the proper position of the forearm when you draw, at least for me. If you rotate the forearm and/or wrist even a little bit it punishes you ;)

Hello Armin :) thanks for all the god info you provide ! I am from Norway, and have just started my archery life 🏹 where can i get a reasonebly priced takedown bow, about 35 pound ?
@ArminHirmer
@ArminHirmer 6 жыл бұрын
a normal takedown recurve. Mohican from Bearpaw is 200 Euro, the Mohawk at bit more expensive but good too. Or do you talk about a takedown horsebow?

So I've been looking into Custom Thumb Ring Archery, and was wondering if it's worth it to buy their thumb ring sizer, or if using calipers is enough? I had already used calipers for one of my Vermil rings, and it fits pretty well after sanding to a proper fit for me. Also, I can't remember if you reviewed this company's Manchu thumb ring, or if it was Vermil's, but would you say it is particularly helpful for a Manchu style draw, or is any thumb ring good enough? Additionally, have you ever strained/sprained your thumb? I had done so while moving back home, and was wondering how I should be taking care of it beyond a compression bandage and ice packs?
@ArminHirmer
@ArminHirmer 6 жыл бұрын
Vellikos their sizer is quite good, but when your take your size proper it works without. The Manchu ring for me only makes sense when you draw more then 34” as your hand will go beyond your face. But that’s me
@customthumbrings5743
@customthumbrings5743 6 жыл бұрын
Some people don't own calipers, or don't really know how much force to use when measuring. The ring sizer is great for those people, because it takes the guesswork out. If you're confident you can use calipers though, go for it.

Thanks for posting, Armin! Relating to other traditional archery devices, do you find that the 'proper' thumbrings make speed shoothing a bit more challenging? I notice that when you do thumb release you usually go barehanded.

Yes you're right, one can adapt to pretty much anything, lol. I just ordered a ring sizer from Custom Thumb Rings. Next purchase is going to be either that Korean bow you just showed or the fiberglass Tartar bow. Can't wait to get into traditional archery :D >>>>--------------->

Greetings. I generally got some problems when shooting with "solid" thumb rings, indeed, when I shoot lots of arrows it becomes painful with powerful bows han bows (60 - 80 and 100 LBS). That's why I prefer to use a leather thumb ring, this way, I can shoot 100 - 200 arrows a day with that poundages and with (almost) not pain at the end. So, my question is : Do you think this kind of Korean thumb ring can be useful to practice on high poundage bow without pain ? Thank you by advance for responding !
@ArminHirmer
@ArminHirmer 6 жыл бұрын
First Person Traditional Archery like with every thumb ring your should start with a low poundage, so your thumb will get used to it. When the ring fits good it is no problem

Does the ring feel secure and not wanting to slip out when you are drawing a bow, without having to clinch with your thumb?
@TheDave570
@TheDave570 6 жыл бұрын
I have one also, yes it feels secure and if properly fitted will not slip. Like Armin says, you can use a leather strip to help with a tighter fit.

I love the male style ring except that it chokes my thumb pretty badly. For now I use a short piece of hand wrap to loop around the ring and make a improvised wrist strap. Do you not feel like your thumb's getting choked?

There is a post on KZfaq with how to use them, it has a clip of traditional ones carved out of wood, all shapes and sizes. I found that a sharpish ridge for the string to slide along cuts down on the friction of release and a steep slant to the end cuts down on the lag of release. Setting it a nocks width below your arrow means it doesn't even touch the arrow either 👍, an hour's whittling on a piece of hardwood and I'm amazed by the result. You got to make one , it's more personal and traditional (watch your fingers with the knife though ) 🤷🏻‍♂️
