Nitpicks I noticed: -No window in the "master" -The bed is cornered, so one sleeping on the inside cannot safely get down without waking up the other -All guests need to cut through the sleeping area to use the bathroom -Wardrobe would not be closed religiously to prevent cooking/food smells on clothing

Also, this redesign still heavily focuses on max. 2 people actively living here. A child's cot/small bed with room to put the kid to bed and not knock your head/sacrifice your living area at night would be unmanageable with time ;) Love the design though, so smart!

This is wild, I'm convinced you could turn a utility cupboard into a home after this one! PS, the office design is coming along slowly but surely - IKEA Aus doesn't have the Voxtorp doors I need to complete the office yet, but looking forward to sending you some 'after' pics soon. Really smart work... but practically speaking, even with the improvements this space with a young child will feel like a massive compromise, and will feel chaotic really fast. Seems like a case of just because you can envision it, and do it, doesn't necessarily mean you should. You're most likely better off holding onto the space as a rental, or selling tbh.

If you look at his other designs it becomes clear he doesn’t account for women or children. Don’t get me wrong- I love them, love how they look. But they always prioritise the man’s space and everyone else gets.. air? His designs only work as batchelor pads- I wonder why.

@@jay6440 I was looking for someone to notice this. There is really no space for privacy, nor for kids to play. This can work for babies but when you have a teen this really wouldn't work out. What's really perturbing is that the only reason to discuss if they can stay or not is not because they don't have resources, is that it will look good in his portfolio as an architect😕

@@jay6440 yes, this is so true. The last video of his I watched was his redesign of that couple’s apartment where he completely disregarded the woman’s (Lila’s?) requirements. It was a complete turn off.

@@jay6440 Totally agree. Putting knifes in the lower drawer? Totally unsafe for kids, unless you lock it up in some way. And he seems to love having microwave in a shelf above the counter. Also unsafe, and the shorter you are the more dangerous it is (so not for kids, and women are shorter on average).

28 m² is really not a lot of room - for one person it might be comfortable. Alright even if you have guests stay over. For two people it will become cramped if you don't have outside areas - like a garden or balcony. For three it won't work for long - when the baby gets older the things it owns will get bigger and you also need places to play. And the adults will need a place of their own to work, read... it doesn't need to be big and even can double as a guest room - but I don't think less then 50 m² will work for 3 people in the long run.

I’d keep the bathtub and bathroom size as it is, and put the kitchen where the bedroom is now, and then have a sleeping and living area with windows. In a small apartment it’s nice to be able to come home and have a relaxing bath after a stressful day.

These design process videos are interesting, but as someone who has spent time living in studio space like this in London… i feel like most of the renders in this series add a sense of order to rooms but don’t really actually create any more space. A lot of it feels like an illusion of space based on the camera clipping through one of the walls or placed above or beyond the floor plan (rather than a viewpoint set “in” it with a presence) + idealised digital lighting conditions. This room and its objects would feel cramped with a person actually navigating it. So I’d be interested to see the series progress to actually putting these plans in motion, and seeing how it translates to reality.

Hey Matthew, this is a really good point as developers/designers are known for "augmenting" visuals like you mentioned. This isn't something that I personally agree with and the renders of this project are taken as photos from the inside - but you're completely right in saying that a rendered flythrough would be helpful in proving this... 🤔 Somthing to work towards... I appreciate the feedback! 🙌

@@DanielTitchener If you look into Unreal Engine 4 or Unreal Engine 5, you should be able to render the sketch-up scene out in real-time rather than pre-rendered, so getting fly-throughs would definitely be possible

May i point a problem with the kitchen layout ? I think the cooking module should be where the sink is and vice versa, the oven and induction hob will unavoidably produce heat which is not the best next to a fridge. Also by being close to the window you can have extra airflow for emergency ventilation. I think I'd rather put them the other way around. Anyways I LOVE your videos they are so clean and creative, LOVE IT

One thing you could do is use a marine table base for the dining room table. Basically it's a single adjustable height metal tube that installs in a base that is screwed to the floor. and supports the table top (they use it on boats). There's a lever to adjust the height so you could have the table top at a standard dining height of 30" but then raise it to counter height for extra prep surface. Also, with one center base you have three less table legs to bump into.

Changing sheets and daily making the bed is hard enough when the bed is in a corner, I can only imagine how hard it woul be smacked into two corners and so high up...I would put the bathroom next to the kitchen on the back wall and free the rest of the space to plan a nice living room, a Murphy bed can solve the issue of the sleeping area for everyday use very nicely...

Your designs are so clean and efficient. I love the long, pure lines. I know there is a trend towards windowless 'bedrooms'. Not loving that. But with the services where they are there really isn't an option.

I literally went and shot a property identical to this in New Cross today, I then did a floorplan of it to use as a test archviz property to hone my skills. This design is a great way to shuffle the space. Well done bro 👍

It's amazing what can be accomplished by rethinking how to efficiently use small spaces. I think this type of apartment would be perfect for someone single and starting out. It has everything you need for a single person, it's just a question of keeping the apartment clean and clutter free.

i wish there is generous skill architect like you to be consulted with, here. it's common knowledge, one call themselves interior designer or contractor basically only middle man with no essential knowledge and skill in design the interior (the most thing they sell is the custom furniture).

If you wish to make, your house look even more bigger, Use glass on the wardrobe & Acrylic white or Glass shutter on your Kitchen shutter. You can also use, wall mounted dining & stackable chair. When the dining is not much in use, you can ease of some space.

Although I find This redesign quite nice, I can't overlook one big mistake - entrance to the bathroom (the only bathroom) from the 'master' bedroom/kid's room/office. Not very user-friendly solition, as someone would be constantly bothered by others going to and from the bathroom.

This is a necessary compromise. It is partially negated by the fact that the child’s space would have a door to seal it from the rest of the circulation.

Love the video Daniel and was curious about the pocket door - does the stud wall need to be thicker than normal to accommodate it? Is any special type of pocket door required (ie very slim) or will most work here?

I’d put the bed base on gas lift struts to open up the space for the kid. 1 x washer/dryer in 1 unit and use the extra space for well needed storage.

I've always had this question because I want to do the same at my kitchen: does placing the oven and stove just beside the fridge affect the cooling system of it? Does it make it less efficient or more energy consuming?

Although not normally the case, I think this one all boils down to money. What is the apartment worth as is? How much will the renovation cost? If you decide to renovate and then sell, will you lose money? And quite basically just like you said I don’t think this space is quite big enough for you to live comfortably and do whatever you want to do. All of this changes though, if you’re in a hyperinflated real estate market like London, New York, LA or Vancouver! I know I wouldn’t want to try to do what you’re trying to do and live like that in that amount of space unless that was a very expensive market that I couldn’t afford to be in any other way.
