Hi Daniel, I'm Dominic. I just wanted to thank you that you spent time with coming up with these ideas. I really like the 2nd option, I always wanted a loft bed and I don't mind doing some DIY. I know that this room has a lot of potential, but I'm not that creative to make a 3D model about it. Hi Daniel, I'm a little concerned with 3 things: 1. Your eyes: - - - - - - - - - - - ---> In fact, eyes use their muscles to focus to close objects, but relaxe when focusing on farther ones. Vue the space you're living in, if you have this setup for a long term one, your eyes would suffer and soon you would have vision issues. However, another way to remedes to this is to have big mirrors that will increase virtually the room. 2. Your lungs and Brain: - - - - - - - - - - - ---> With less space for oxygene to circulate, your brain would suffocate and your organes suffer from this. You better find time to go out into parks often or find ways to get your space open with windows. 3. Your Bons & Teeth: - - - - - - - - - - - ---> Without the sun entering your space as well, you would have vitamin D deficiency, if you don't go out often, which will soften your bones and your teeth. I know it could happen that you save for a better life, but this organization for a long time would not be healthy for you. All the best for you. God bless

You can do it just withh a paper. I moved a lot in my childhood and early adult time. probably 12 times or so. I always take a paper, measure out my room, scale it down and draw it on the paper correctly. Then i draw all my furniture, cabinets and couch and all that on another paper, scaled doen with the right amount again and cut them out. With this you can play with it, where everything fits perfectly and you can use your imagination. It works very well and you can do this with a whole apartment. My friends and my family told me quite often that my apartment looks very well, like feng shui even though i dont have any clue how the rules are in feng shui. I guess thats just some rules we all have in us somehow when we are able to think and play with our apartment and with our imagination. You can make perfect use of every room and everything you have. Its very easy and a lot of fun when you anticipate making a nice room. You walk through your room, try to come up with new ideas, look if it fits with your scaled down drawing and walk again and imagine how it looks. I highly recommend it. No knowledge is needed. Just you and you room. And a paper...

I'd encourage you to look into Daniel's Nebula channel. He's got plenty of full-length videos there on his SketchUp remodels and you can follow along. Other than that, SketchUp is all about practice and mastering your modeling technique, so I'd start there. Learn the essentials: components, groups, tags (layers), axis, planes, perspective, and so on. Once you REALLY get the basics of SketchUp down, then you can move to rendering. Rendering requires you to have your lightning fundamentals down. See how light reacts to your environment and it'll help you when modeling. Last but not least, use high quality materials when rendering as it'll make your image look clean and crisp.

Google sketchup is not really that hard to use. I have no 3d skills at all, but using a measuring tape to get the parameters then building it out isn't that hard. Using something like grafting paper (the stuff with squares instead of lines) to draw it out roughly first helps too so you can visualize.

Oh my god, this is not only hands down my favorite episode of the "Redesigns" series, but most likely my favorite video on your channel (I watched almost all of them). I am so pleased that you chose such an unfriendly living space because that's the reality for the majority of the people out there. I know it looks not as good as showing tech gadgets and redesigned guest rooms/studio rooms, but it's so much more useful to so many more people. I hope Dominic will get good inspiration from your work and I'm sure that this will be useful to so many other people to improve their living situation. Finally I also loved your honesty in the conclusion, admitting that you're not able to stick to such a low budget, yet you still decided to pick this project rather than something else to show in your channel. Kudos.

I found that good lighting in the room really has an impact on making it confortable, so what about a video where you focus on lighting?

I chose the last option. Bigger size bed is always super, plus under the bed you can have storage and hangers on wheels. I think he spents alot of time gaming and studying, so bigger study table and so much more storage above study table makes so much sense.

I’ve never seen anything like it since it’s an illegal bedroom at least in the US. You’re required to have a certain window size & square footage to be a legal bedroom…this is a hallway

Only started the video but was so sure you would switch the placement of the bed and the desk as you would need to squeeze beside beside the bed every time you would exit the room. *Edit* After watching the video I think I like the lower loft bed option, maybe not all the cabinets above the desk and maybe use a bit of that space to place a wardrobe could also be an option, Great video Daniel, a real challenge!

Considering the limited space, here are some suggestions for your small room: - Move the bed all the way in, and opt for a custom-built bed against the walls for noise reduction, space for a partner, a cozy corner, and added storage underneath. - Choose a wall-attached, leg-free desk with underdesk storage to maximize floor space. - Incorporate one office chair and a movable armchair near the door, serving as both seating and a coat hanger. These adjustments create a practical, clutter-free, and cozy atmosphere while keeping costs down.

Honestly either of the loft bed options were my favorite. It seemed the best use of space and makes it feel more contemporary and comes inline with more urban thinking

I would also raise the bed and put storage underneath, however I would create a step up (the stairs having storage) to a tatami style area with a ledge to become a desk when sitting on the raised area and a closet/trapdoor space to store a futon. Of course that would be for me to use the space. I'd also put shoji style door patterns on the far wall to help the space be more serene- maybe even opening to an optional mirror. Then towards the front I would do a wall table which can collapse and shelving for kitchen stuff and a plant that doesn't need sunlight.

I thought of the loft bed first thing, positioned exactly, where you put it. (1st option) for the computer, again the exact same spot, under the bed, but, I would have placed the desk on the end wall. This eliminates the "squeeze in" to get to the desk, from the side. But the second idea, would be to turn the space under the loft bed, as small study area, or nook, with calming decor, a relaxed chair, and small table, or two. ( This way, he has a spot just for him, where he isn't at the computer/desk, nor in bed. The desk and closet, could still be by the front door. To cut down on noise, going in, or out. A heavy curtain, placed near the front door, to help eliminate noise. ( And depending on traffic, can slide the curtain shut, so people can't see in, when he's coming, or going. ( Would look like a wall, just a few feet, behind the entrance door) any wall that is blank, could have various wall mounted organization/ floating shelves. Depending on how much storage he needs, the stairs can be fixed, to the bed, and storage can be built under the stairs. If he doesn't need that much storage, then the stairs can be removed, and set against the wall. I actually see a lot of possibilities with this.

The aspirational, third choice definitely feels very premium and desirable. The lowered lofted bed angles fairly nice at the room divider where one could potentially mount a modest smart tv... where he could stream shows and relax in bed. Under bed storage makes a lot of sense and could be concealed with mini curtains when not being accessed. Adding a bit of extra elegance and softness to the space. I love this series.

At least where I live in Australia, I could source some of those items for cheaper than they are priced at Ikea. It would be a matter of waiting for sales. The other things is a lot of ikea pieces are available on Facebook market place and similar sites for significantly less cost. I think he could achieve the first option in his budget if he spread the transformation over a few months and was ready to paint some items to get them all uniform in color. If the furniture is covered in lacquer or plastic and expensive to paint because sanding and primer are required, he can get plain white peel and stick wall paper and cover the furniture in that. Instead of the round mirror at the entry he can also consider stick on mirror tiles which are very affordable on aliexpress. If they're applied well they look very nice. I think the overall impact of the space is what's worth focusing on.

I’m not personally a fan of the white aesthetic but the loft idea is nice, having the bed out of the way is much better. I’d like a fold out stair/stepladder to the loft but I like the ideas overall and I’m a huge fan of small cozy well designed spaces as I just don’t need a lot of room to be happy 😊 great video

Wow, this was a really difficult space, both in terms of dimensions and budget. You did a great job with the various alternatives. A couple of ideas I came up with was to make a mirror wall in the entrance and a murphy bed, perhaps combining the two concepts together with overhead storage (if you can deal with light construction, because swivel plates are quite cheap in hardware stores). You could also build a fake window in the office-area (using led-strips and a plastic diffusion layer) with a light white curtain in front of it. This would serve two purposes, make the space feel less "cave"-like and also dampen and dispersing sound waves (something the person is already doing less elegantly with acoustic panels). Ultimately I think the best idea is to move the storage and sleeping to the back, with the last loft alternative being the best one. Also, I would probably consider a narrower desk. because every cm you gain in your sitting area will make the space feel less cramped as an office. With a slim profile wall-mount for the monitor you can make do with 40-50cm deep desk.

Depending on how clean the carpet is, I’d get rid of the bed frame and put the mattress on the floor so you could lean it on it’s side when not in use.

I like the 2nd option because I would prefer my sleeping area to be as far from the entry as possible. I wonder if the original layout was due to electrical constraints? I don't see evidence of any outlets or overhead light sources in the front room of this tiny space. As a student, the client may also be constrained in attaching anything to the walls, so the bed loft would have to be free-standing.

Very well thought out design here, especially the second one which I loved the most. One of the biggest problems of the design would be the ladder and the amount of storage near the bed. One of the ideas I have is to use IKEA's cube storage as a staircase down to the floor as it would provide an easier way to go up and down and provide more storage for items near the bed. And a floating shelf could be added at the end of the bed for quick to access items like an alarm or phone. The floating shelf could be placed there through rod supports going to the ceiling. Another one of my ideas which would be more custom and would disregard the staircase idea would be to find a wardrobe which when the door is open can have slats or steps installed into the door to act as a ladder to access the loft. This idea would also allow a storage space to be placed on top of the wardrobe for easy access of items from the bed, without going down.

The cabinet looks like is protecting the main electric panel of something (at 4:46 you can see a dual automatic switch). If he doesn't know how to manipulate that, removing the "shelving" produces a quite high risk. If he knows (or knows someone). Maybe the idea of moving the entire electric box to a place that doesn't have impact is a better one (the area over the "door" looks perfect for that)

Always excited to see your solutions! Last option was the best for me. If noise was the reason for the original setup, I think that can be addressed with a headphone. The second could be irritating if you end up hitting your head every time you stand up.

I could imagine having a platform in the back part of the room with the desk on it and with the bed sliding out underneath. I also like the idea of having a futon that can be stowed away during the day.

A good way to save money would be to purchase used IKEA furniture, which is surely possible in Hungary. It's not a perfect solution, but definitely a great option for a student.

Less than ideal.... me living in 10m^2 space with small wood/electro workshop, working table, bed and storage + my dogs bed :D And i am quite happy with this space!

Out of the 3 options, I think option 2 is the best. Option 3 works as well if you want more head space, but I would find it annoying to have to bend every time I need to take clothes out of storage.
