I was kind of on the fence about uploading 50+ minutes of the old Electronic Program Guide scroll. It was the radio broadcast in the background that got me to post the whole thing--I guess the idea is to leave this video on in the background while doing other things. Let me note that actively watching all 50+ minutes (like I did) can cause severe brain damage. Don't be stupid like me, watch responsibly.
Whoever recorded this obviously intended to tape the Pay-Per-View movie they had ordered. But (thankfully), instead of doing a timer recording, they just popped a tape in, hit record and went to bed, hence this lengthy clip. As for how we arrived at the EPG, the cable company automatically booted you there after your movie.
For what it's worth, nothing new happens with the EPG after about the 37-minute mark, though there is an amusing block of radio commercials that happens in the mid-40's. Also, for whatever reason, every 5-6 minutes, the channel (automatically) changes for a split-second to something else--can't say I've ever seen anything like that before.
This aired over United Cable somewhere in or around Phoenix, Arizona on Monday, October 26, 1987 from about 1:12 to 2:03 A.M. The radio station in the background was local Classical station KONC 196.3 FM.

Some people are a bit more interested in 50+ minutes of EPG scroll than you'd think :) Thanks for posting!

Back when most major radio markets still has a commercial Classical music station. How times have changed. Now, most areas of the country are lucky if they still have a public radio station that plays Classical! Thanks for sharing.

There's still WRR-FM in Dallas, a municipally-owned but commercially-supported classical station, probably one of the very few left in the nation.

We had WQRS in Detroit from 1960 to 1997. It was a wonderful station. Thankfully, we have WRCJ at 90.9 still playing classical during the daytime hours, with former WQRS host Dave Wagner. Jack Goggin is also still on the air hosting his Film Classics program that started on WQRS. We got lucky, although we had to wait 7 years between WQRS signing off and WRCJ signing on.

Reminds me of falling asleep as a kid watching cable, and waking up after the channel had signed off and this was all that was on. Really fun memory.

This is an early version of Amiga software with an early implementation of image ads. It's so early that the guide has to stop before changing to the ad.

I wish someone would post a movie with the EPG scrolling on the bottom. I remember Victor Victoria was on one of these channels in the 1990s.

The first piece rung a bell, as ABC radio played it during the chaos of the initial reports of the JFK assassination between the first reports being made.
