Are BLUETOOTH Record Players Good? AUDIO TECHNICA AT-LP60XBT Turntable Review!!!
My love of wireless tech goes head-to-head with my love for music and records in my review of Audio Technica's AT-LP60XBT Bluetooth capable turntable. Audio Technica’s new AT-LP60XBT bluetooth wireless turntable is aimed at vinyl enthusiasts who are looking for an affordable way to enjoy their vinyl record collection simply. The fact that it can wirelessly stream your records to bluetooth enabled loudspeakers is the icing on the cake. Will audiophiles and AV enthusiasts welcome it though?

'Would I consider a record player?' I *DO* own a Bluetooth-enabled turntable (a Target Heyday). There are some situations where it's a nice feature to have, but the fact is I don't see much point to it. I'm sure there are situations where it might be useful - listening with wireless headphones, for example, but I'd probably be perfectly happy without it.

I have the non-Bluetooth version of this table hooked to my Onkyo receiver playing through my home theater system. I love the sound this little thing makes! I really had forgotten how I used to enjoy listening to records as a kid until I started spinning them on this table. It's not the greatest turntable in the world, but my goodness, it punches above its weight and sounds really good.

Got one for Christmas as a gift from my girlfriend. I have not had a turntable since 1990...but my curiosity to play my remaining 75 albums meant I nudged her to get me one. I'm not bothered with going down rabbit holes with tweaking etc and I am happy to just enjoy the music. Sound quality is surprisingly good and it looks modern and has a small footprint. Plug and play....brilliant.

Bought this turntable a couple of weeks ago and it's my first one ever. I think you've pretty much nailed it in the video. It connects with the bluetooth speakers literally with a touch of a button and doesn't require you to be a hacker to manage connections. The sound, to my beginner's ear, is pretty much fantastic and I can't see myself upgrading from this for a while. Love your chilled reviewing style. Thanks!

I prefer the old school stuff BUT this is a beautiful solution for my work studio where space is limited. Now I can actually have vinyl in house and not worry about having a bunch of additional components stuffed into a small space. For those that are into esthetic and don't mind pretty colors, Urban Outfitters has this model in Rose Gold. That's what I ordered!

The cartridge in this turntable is a version of the AT3600. While the cartridge is not replaceable, the stylus can be upgraded. LP Gear has an upgrade kit for the AT-LP60 that includes a new belt for the drive and an elliptical stylus for the cartridge.

Oh yeah, definitely, go for it. It's a tremendous little turntable and it can even be upgraded with a few tweaks here and there. I actually replaced the conical stylus with an elliptical from LP Gear, which I did last year. More recently, I removed the felt mat from the platter and placed a beautiful blue acrylic mat down in it's place. This improves rotation stability, produces tighter bass response and less surface noise than the felt. The elliptical stylus is also more responsive in the grooves than the conical. It's more active, tracks every nuanced curve more accurately, it's all over the place doing it's thing with more precision. If you have this turntable connected to a system with tone controls, WOW, all I can say is WOW. You now have a turntable boasting performance and sound quality way beyond what it sells for.

I just got this record player, and it sounds exquisite havng it hooked up via male to male headhpone jack to a PanasonicSA-AK240, an obsucre unit, and it sounds utterly amazing! The panasonic has some EQ presets bulit in, so you can manipulate the sound some. I like that it has a choice between 7 inch singels or standard 12 inch recrods. I was able to play a cool single I had of the moon landing, a promo by NASA. I found an old recrod of my dads, lute rendition of my favorite music of all time, Bach's suite in G Major. What a beautiful treaure to find :)

Thanks for the review. I was made aware of the Audio Technica line as an option thru other KZfaq reviews but yours is the one that has spoken to my specific priorities in procuring a starter turntable sooner than later. My son is 15, has a growing interest in music (both listening and playing), and he is also autistic and social/familial connections are a challenge for him to say the least. But, when he is excited about something he is more apt to share and be receptive to feedback and communication in general. Just this past weekend one of my older brothers learned that my son is practicing some songs by The Police on both guitar and bass and he dug up a couple of albums by the band, that he's had since their original release on vinyl, and offered to loan them out. Alas, we are without a turntable except for a portable kid's unit from my wife's childhood that recently made its way back to her, still functional, after many years in storage. I know enough to not risk damaging my old records or anyone else's, with all due respect to the sentimental value. I'm going to pull the trigger on this model reviewed here, along with some bookshelf speakers, and get the vinyl listening underway sooner than later. When time and budgets allow, I can delve into other options and pass this "starter kit" along to my son from a shared space to his bedroom and for his expanding connections and an enriched life thru a shared love of music and links to enduring technologies that bridge generations. No time like the present! (Wordy, I know, but I am freaking excited!) Peace!

Andrew: I wish I would have found this review a couple of weeks earlier. I bought the AT-LP120XBT-USB (on sale at BestBuy, and IN STOCK!). Just getting back into vinyl, digging out all of my old albums, and WOW! I had forgotten how good vinyl sounds. Then I tried the BT function with a pair of Sony BT headphones. Again, I am impressed! No, it isn't the quite the same listening experience as when I want to sit and listen to everything being wired, but it IS better than streaming, and gives me the freedom to move about the house whilst listening to 40 year old albums. Price and simplicity of use were the only reasons I said I wish I had found your review earlier. That said, I love this turntable. It really does give me the best of both worlds. Just a side note: I am surprised at how scarce turntables seem to be right now. Maybe after a couple of months after stock has been replenished, they will be more plentiful. I know, Christmas was last month, and we're in the middle of a pandemic. I was still surprised at the lack of stock. Anyway, I love the channel!!! Have a great day!

I started this as a hobby recently, started collecting my favorite albums, I don’t know much about setting audio systems with wires and amps and stuff, so I decided to go with this Bluetooth version, easy set up, easy Bluetooth pairing, didn’t want to buy anything expensive, but nothing cheap (speaking in turntable terms), not much maintenance but I think it’s time I change the needle for the first time, perfect choice for me, will probably upgrade and invest more money in another turntable but for now I can just collect records, bass is kinda low but I have a bass booster option on my speaker, and it sounds just perfect to me, I even started to listen to music out of my favorite genres, the community is great, perfect choice for a more modern person, or someone wanting to get into collecting vinyls, would recommend this table

Your post tells me that you don't need to upgrade your turntable, you need to upgrade your speakers. Preferably to normal POWERED speakers - not bluetooth. Also, while its true you cannot upgrade your cart on this TT, you CAN upgrade the stylus to an elliptical which can drastically increase the sound quality because it gets deeper into those record grooves and delivers more detail.

I love it because I’m a college student so I don’t have the money for anything more than what I got, so I’m glad he appreciates even the budget entry level turntables for what they are, as I feel he could easily be spoiled with what he has listened to prior and say that’s it crap and etc.

Andy makes a great review about the LP60XBT. Perhaps one thing he didn't touch on was the ability to upgrade the stylus, not the cartridge, but the stylus. Yes, this turntable, as many different models do, comes with the widely used ATN3600L cartridge with a conical stylus. This is where the potential for upgrade is there. A couple of months back, I became curious of what making the switch from a conical stylus to an elliptical would make to the soundstage on this turntable. I can tell Andrew, as well as anybody else who may be thinking about doing something like this, the change is worth it, it's a little more expensive, but worth it. You definitely get a difference with an elliptical tip, and this difference is still apparent whenever I like to use this turntable's bluetooth feature. Even my inexpensive speakers, the Logitech Z130's sound fuller and exhibit more detail, which may also be due to the fact that this turntable uses the aptX bluetooth audio codec. This is where I have to conclude my strong inclination to often use this turntable's bluetooth feature because of the hi resolution streaming it offers, and the elliptical tip clearly enhances the quality of the bluetooth sound to an absolutely beautiful level. It's the kind of turntable that emphasises the fact that bluetooth isn't just about convenience anymore, it's serious audio.

I think it's a great way to give more people a starting point that isn't a crosley, because as you said it has the cable option so further down the line they can decide to start investing more into it. Kind of makes me wish there were more dual option items such as this that make great entry points, but still can deliver quality.

Heck, play it until you can't play it anymore. Keep in mind, the higher you move up in the TT chain, the more knobs and adjustments you have to make (antiskate, tracking weights) and the less automatic they are. If you like how the needle comes back home after playing the record, the less you'll like fully manual turntables where you need to get up and take the needle off the record yourself. To many, that's no big deal, we're used to it. Just know what you'd be getting yourself into.

Speakers that are good entry level ones are Edifir active speakers. You can get them for under 150 dollars on Amazon. Another great way to find audio equipment is by shopping at thrift stores, you can find a majority of the components (including speakers) for under 150, the brands can vary but good ones that are often at goodwill are Technics, Sony, Pioneer, Kenwood etc. Hope this helps!. P.s. you can find the list of different components you may want or not for a traditional stereo system set up online, some things can be left out if you dont want them like CD players and Cassette decks :)

I think I am going to get this turntable. I am currently using the 30 year old audio setup my mom and dad had before and it worked great but the turntable gave up (it was a Dual CS 505-3). I already have the ATH-SR50BT wireless headphone from Audiotechnica so I hope this will work great witht the audio system and headphones. Thanks for the great review!

I've used everything from studio level all tube app + monitors in a Nashville studio to a cheap car audio cassette player to get a mix right. People listen to a wide range of audio gear. The trick is to get a mix that sounds good on all systems. Thanks for the audio details, this really help me decide what range of bluetooth turntable I wanted to invest in. The LP60XBT is a solid unit, decent audio quality at a good price. A major upgrade from cheaper units, it is worth the additional cost. This should be good enough for the casual listener and does not require additional investment in a stereo amplifier and wired speakers. Let's face it, a lot of younger folks will have only bluetooth equipment. This turntable will open the door for these folks to enjoy the tactile experience of a vinyl LP. For me, now I can listen to my LP's in my office while I work. A big plus!

I have the AT-LP60XBT set up in my office, running it through a Samsung TV sound bar and sub. Sounds very nice, good detail. Bluetooth pairing is easy and reliable. Auto function is convenient. Overall, I would recommend this turntable for non-audiophiles. Got it on sale, which is even better. Thanks for the review.

I know someone who has one and shes very pleased with it, shes not into counterweights and all the setup jazz so this plug and play rig is great for her needs. I would like to take one and add some dynamat sound mat in the bottom to kill some resonance and add the LPGear elliptical stylus upgrade and see the results, im guessing it would be very acceptable

Looks like a turntable that I'd really enjoy having in my office. Bluetooth quality is improving. I like being able to move my speakers around the room without having to hide wires. Looks like a great lifestyle turntable at a very affordable price. Don't let these plastic machines scare you. My 1995 Radio Shack no-frills turntable is a rebranded Audio Technica. Still playing well after 24 years.

I have this turntable, been using it for 6+ months. It *could* use just a smidge more tracking force (it's a bit more prone to skipping than my others), but it sounds AMAZING. My only problem really is no power on/off button. I HATE having to unplug it, but I have several Bluetooth devices in the house, and it always, ALWAYS, connects to *something*. Even devices it's not paired with. I don't like leaving things "on" that I'm not using. 🤷

Hi. Am curious about the sound quality of this VS the AT LP120X? The budget isn't the issue. I am leaning towards the LP60XBT because of it's size and simplicity. I would be using hard wired. Just wondering if the sound would be that much better with the 120X model? Please keep note that my LP collection is a bunch of street finds and thrift store finds which are a little beat up, so not sure if the "better" stylus of the LP120X would actually sound better?

I'm not a high end, vinyl-playing audiophile like that. I'm somebody who hasn't bought a new vinyl record since I was barely out of my teens, shortly after my first CD player. I just got this for Christmas. I love how easy it is to use. It is sold at Walmart as the "AT-LPGO-BT." I have not had the chance to try the Bluetooth function. Anyway, vinyl is cool, again. And I skipped the Crosley, suitcase el-cheapo! P.S. I did hear someone play the Beatles hit, "All My Loving," on vinyl (on KZfaq). I can hear the distinct vocals when Paul's voice was double-tracked on the final refrain, "Close your eyes and I'll kiss you. Tomorrow I'll miss you..." with a certain "buzz" that is lost when I hear that same track on CD. It seems that when that material is digitized, it gets too sanitized. That cannot just be my imagination!

@@Jellywife Nice! My husband was also happy with it. (He opened the gift and was like oh wow how much did you spend?! He thought it was way more expensive than it was) I was originally looking at the Marley table because it is very pleasing to look at but I think the auto-technica is a great entry-level turntable and at a truly unbeatable price. We have ours connected through his computer speaker system currently, which is a pretty good system but we want that amazing quality sound that comes with listening to vinyl so that will be our next upgrade. I'm totally on board with the Bluetooth connectivity, but I wonder if a manufacturer at some point is going to include a turntable with an FM transmitter, for true wireless analog connection to a receiver, transmitting at the very top or very bottom of the standard dial where there is rarely a station. Would this satisfy the sticklers? I wonder.
