Today we're taking a look at the Bones 84B Skatepark Formula (SPF) Wheels - one of the hardest skateboard wheels available on the market.
To grab a set for yourself, you can use one of the links below:
54mm (This is the most common size): Search for 'Bones SPF 54mm' on Amazon/Google
58mm (This size is faster and more suited for bowl/vert skating, but also heavier and requires risers/different hardware): amzn.to/3u4yTK1
Risers: amzn.to/2QRZXKR
Longer Hardware: amzn.to/2Je4uSj
Other skating/filming equipment that I swear by:
🛹 SKATEBOARD BEARINGS: amzn.to/32vgH0w
🛹 SKATE TOOL: amzn.to/3u3mPZh
🎥 A-CAMERA: Sony a6600 - amzn.to/3KFIUD7
📷 LENS: Sigma 16mm f/1.4 Lens - amzn.to/33ItMo5
📹 B-CAMERA: GoPro HERO8 - amzn.to/3tYxeW1

Hi, I found that really helpful but could do with some advice. I’m a newcomer to skating. I’m progressing ok. I ride park. I ride Spitfire F4, 54mm. 99d. I find that my back wheels slide out often. Maybe it’s me, maybe the wheels. I’ve often thought I’d like a grippier wheel but would I find the Bones SPF too fast for a beginner? Or grippy good?

Excellent review. Nice flow, good speech! Thanks! I ride those on concrete (poorly), and they give me much more retained speed! If someone is like me, trying to find effective lines on concrete, I really do recommend them. Smooth concrete, that is. Awful on a cruiser...

@mambanana87
@mambanana87 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Justin, so what wheels would you recommend for not-so-smooth concrete? Or maybe softer bushings or suspension trucks could do the trick (less bumpier ride with wheels hard enough for powerslides)?
@NeverStopImprovingSB
@NeverStopImprovingSB 5 жыл бұрын
First thing I want to make sure and call out: softer bushings would not produce the effect you're interested in (rather, they would just get shredded more easily and would not support your weight properly). But to answer your question, changing your wheels is a really good option to handle skating rough concrete on a regular basis. I would go with something like a Spitfire Formula Four 99a (absolutely still hard enough for powerslides and won't flatspot, but can handle the rougher ground a lot better). They also have a 101a option, but that might still be a little too hard...

Very nice review. Have you tried OJ wheels such as Insane a thane, or the new OJ elites?
@NeverStopImprovingSB
@NeverStopImprovingSB 5 жыл бұрын
I have actually, but not either of those two formulas. You can actually see the OJs I rode right at the beginning of this video (starting at 0:05), right next to my left foot (the center stack). I didn't really like them so I switched brands. Despite being 101a durometer, they seemed to degrade pretty quickly, and they had absolutely atrocious grip on smooth surfaces, plus they held onto dirt like crazy so they always looked kinda gross :( Are the Insane-a-thane or OJ Elites any better (if you've tried them that is)?

Nice one Justin. Can i ask what wheel size is best for street / park beginner adults? 50mm, 52mm, 53mm or 54mm?
@NeverStopImprovingSB
@NeverStopImprovingSB 5 жыл бұрын
I like to go fast, and I kind of hate when my wheels get stuck on cracks/pebbles, so I would recommend the 54s, but if you're REALLY into doing technical flip/ledge tricks, a 52mm would be a little lighter/more maneuverable, however sacrificing a little bit of speed at the top end (50mm would probably be a little too small for me to recommend). Cheers!

So bones changed STF 83b formula with years. The difference between v1 53mm set from 2008 wear down to 50mm and stf v2 53mm 2017 wear down to 51mm. Newer set much smoother, accelerate faster and effortlessly roll to everything much easier to slide aka buttery slide and revert tricks. The old set definitely has more grip and chirk loud sound.

what wheel do you recommend if I do a lot of riding on the road AND the skatepark? I usually skate to the skatepark as I can't drive yet, but using softer wheels suck when I try tricks at the skatepark. really looking for wheels that do well in the skatepark but also will keep me safe on rougher roads.

@@loganso6550 On roads, the bigger wheels are going to get caught in cracks and on pebbles LESS easily so yes, 54mm wheels are better than 52s for what you're doing. You could even try 56mm if you're feeling froggy (you might need risers though if you do that)

Can you skate street obstacles at parks with these and still have them hold up good are they strictly transition wheels or wheels intended to be used at a skatepark for street and transition
@NeverStopImprovingSB
@NeverStopImprovingSB 2 жыл бұрын
They can absolutely hold up on all the obstacles you'd find at a skatepark. The only weird situation would be if your skatepark had really rough concrete as the base, these wheels wouldn't give you as smooth of a ride on that surface. But rails, ledges, etc. are all fine.
