"Why have you bought race boots for pretend racing?" Because I have?
Anyway- Most racers who take this hobby seriously have a pair. But do they make a difference? I give my one month review of the Sparco K-Pole karting boots.

My brother and I used to drive in wrestling shoes. Very lightweight and very grippy soles. When I'm done with my project car I should look into getting another pair, this time in wide to better fit my fat feet.

I bought a pair of Puma shoes years ago. They never made me quicker [I have a very old - still running good - Logi G27], but they are comfy for longer sessions. The thin soles are just right - they are protective, yet let the right amount of 'feel' through to my feet. I was using old bicycle touring shoes [Avocet Model 30] which were almost as good, once I removed the stiffening shank. But the Pumas are an order of magnitude better, I find. It's my humble opinion that a pair of proper driving shoes is a worthwhile investment, and they should be part of every sim racer's kit.

I think racing shoes are absolutely beneficial to sim racing! Wearing socks and using the Fanatec ClubSport V3 pedals with the D-shape pedal plates, I cannot rest my heels while using them because they're too high. I don't have the longest feet (7.5 US), but using shoes, I can rest my heels and use the pedals much more comfortably and efficiently. The heels of the shoes are hard making it more comfortable to rest your foot on the pedal plate. On top of that, they're quite flexible around the toe area so you maintain a certain level control. I got the Sparco Formula 2022 shoes and they're amazing!

I do have the same karting shoes for ... well karting. I did try to use them with my Fanatec CSL Elite LC pedals, but honestly it just feels a bit weird ( although I did try them on for like 5 mins ) but I do understand wanting to have some shoes on. I have a heel splint on my left foot and racing with socks for 45 mins starts becoming a real pain.

Currently I've been sim-racing in Vans slip ons. A) because they're cheap and comfy, and B) because I usually use them in my IRL cars when I'm ripping up a backroad or something. I guess its just familiarity.

I think you are right that you need the right gear for the job. I can't believe that no one has puts out sim racing driving gear(they my do but I have not googled it). Having the right gear to make you feel comfortable is half the battle. I know if I got to a virtual glory whole theme park, it's always better if I have a Macintosh on. And you can use it if you go dogging later. Just like your sim shoes, you can use the for sim racing and if your lucky enough, for go-karting also.

What you need to do is build a SIM that slams you around when you crash, catches on fire when the fuel leaks, imparts sudden violent G-forces when you turn corners and accelerate, decelerate, generates temperatures of over 100 degrees and finally, generates so much noise that you must wear earplugs.

@R3V0LV3R45

Have to disagree. They are worth it even without load cells. I used to wear some old dress shoes with hard rubber soles that used to “slip” on the pedals enough that I could keep my right foot on the throttle pedal and pivot on my heel. I bought a pair of sneakers and running shoes and both soles would stick to the metal so I would have to “push” the throttle pedal with my heel off the pedal mount. Not comfortable to drive in for long periods of time, or at all really. Throttle application especially when feathering was difficult. Then a near new set of Oakley race boots came up on gumtree for a song. So I bought them, and instantly, being able to go back to pivoting on my heel was so much better. Like how I drive a real car. Plus, a dedicated sim shoe is better than shoes you’ve worn outside to the park, stood in a land mine made by a dog, bird, chewing gum, you name it. Plus no more dirt on your sim pedals from dual-use shoes......

I have driven several race cars all over Europe in the past decade. You dont need those shoes. Well, obviously you need them for real life racing, because they are sort of fire proof (not so sure about the Kart shoes tho). Honestly I can race with any grippy sole on my foot. So dont throw your money out for something not neccessary. If you have the money and you want a pair, go for it.
@AidanMillward
@AidanMillward 4 жыл бұрын
I don’t think they’re fireproof. I’m not about to find out. Getting proper fireproof ones would be overkill, I’d admit. But like I say you’ll find a lot of sim racing drivers with load cell pedals who have a pair of race boots from Broadbent to Chris Haye to Dave Cam. Do you NEED them? No, if you feel you are fine without. Are they an investment for your hobby that add a wealth of comfort and help with immersion? Yes. People spend a lot of money on model railways for instance.
