Kevin Unfortunately, at the time of this video shoot, we were unable to get Borsalino hats at JJ Hat Center,due to the pandemic and general supply chain issues. This is the first in a series of chats about different hat brands, and my feelings about them. I’ll report on them whether we sell the brand or not, it’s just to help the consumer, and to enrich the scene in general.
I own over thirty Borsalino hats,and have sold them over three decades..so I feel I am experienced enough to have a valid opinion on the subject.

I bought 2. The first, when my daughter was born in 2008. The second, when my son was born in 2014. I had no idea that was pre bankruptcy. The first is a wide brim. The second much smaller. I haven't worn them in a while and they're in boxes. Now I have to get them out and look at them to see what they are. I love the first one. I wore it in the rain and snow and it only got better looks wise. I was thinking of wearing them again. After watching this video, I'm going to research them and start wearing them again. Thanks Kevin!

Hi Kevin, very informative video as always :) 3 months ago I bought my first Borsalino hat. Тhe hat is from the very low price range.There is no lining at all ,the sweatband is from cloth ( these things are not negative for me ). Not "quality superior" at all :). But man, it is amazing, light, soft and very stylish. The feeling when you wear it is very special- you wear a part of history in some way. So to say, its not 500-600 USD hat,but there is a desire to make a quality and valuable product. And I am sure, if I take care of her properly, she will last for many years too :) Cheers :)

When I was growing up in the 70s, my uncles had Borsalino hats, they were very easy to find in my home town, high quality as some of them were from the 50s. A couple of months ago, I found them in a shop in Brisbane, Australia. I tried the Folar and the Federico (beaver), just amazing but pricey, at the end I walked out with an Akubra.

I just bought two Borsolinos from Del Monico’s in Connecticut. One Classic and one in beaver. Your videos seduced me into making the purchase. I definitely don’t need anymore fall hats. I previously bought a Borsolino in a 58 that fit tight. These two new ones are 59s. They fit a bit loose. But I have some weatherseal one-sided tape/insulation that will improve the fit if necessary. I totally agree with you that it’s better to buy a bit large than a bit small. My Stetsons run at 58, but European sizes need to run at 59. I wish sizing wasn’t a problem, but it does vary. My favorite summer straw hat from Capas is a 57. ??? I guess this isn’t uncommon. I’m a heritage boot fan, and my shoe size varies from one company to another. I guess hats need to, too. But why?

Borsalino run a size too tight, I wish I could have told you, but yes..you should tell delmonico that I recommended you buy them there, he’s a great guy, and I’m hoping if we send him tons and tons of sales,from this group, we can get them to make us a secret discount code for us,like a 10% off with code Kevin, like that.. if it’s not too much trouble, could you write them an email or quick call? Only if you’re comfortable with it, if not..it’s totally fine thx! Wear them in good health, they’re the best!

Thanks again Kevin for another very informative episode. I recently bought an un-used Borsalino Qualita Superiore at a local hat shop. It was the only one they had among several odd hat models among their stock. It is a 2/38 " whip stitch brim. Very soft and very dark green (almost black) color. It has no model name on the sweatband. It has the sticker under the lining with a few code numbers (Cod. Col. and a nine digit number). Do you know of any way to determine when it was made? In other words if it is pre-bankruptcy?

We used to call it “The Mussa” but that was just a name we created, these models don’t really have names, the store owners order them custom,and then give them a name. This hat is exactly like the Borsalino Verdi model, except it has a short hair silk beaver finish. ( kind of a silky, shiny, hairy type of texture) Other than the upgraded beaver finish, it’s exactly like a Borsalino Verdi. That particular one was a gift from our old Borsalino Sales rep.,Guisseppi Ziche, who gave it to me,because he knew I loved 3” brims,and collected Verdis in exotic colors, I had lavander,burgundy,taupe,grey,a few others,and one day I was steaming a hat up and he just gave it to me.

I've commented before that I am new to hats even though i'm an old man. I bought a Borsalino Verdi 3 weeks ago from another Brooklyn web site (JJ was out of stock, I checked). $340 less $51 so $289 delivered. I am between a 57 and a 58. I bought a 58. It is a little tight but the soft felt seems to stretch as I wear it. I also steamed it on a stretcher, so it fits well now. I love the styling! But it feels wimpy compared to my 2 Akubras. The Akubras are like work helmets compared to the Verdi. The Verdi does not say Superior Quality so I don't have any idea what I got. It also does not have a wind cord. I always seem to be a week or two ahead of your videos, Kevin. We need to get synced!! Thanks for the knowledge you share in these videos. I Paypal-ed you last week. Hope you got it. Dr. K

I’m sure u can get it somewhere, although it didn’t have a blocky,vintage type crown, I’d that’s what you’re looking for, the company has a pointy crown that comes to a letter A shape at top. If you’re looking for an old Film Noir Bogart Gangster type high crown,the model you want is the “Borsalino Film” and always buy it a size bigger if you’re not a Borsalino wearer already. They make both models, it’s a matter of finding a shop who knows about them and ordered them,they’re old school.

$500 is way above my pay grade for a hat. Great information on them. What's the deal with Doria by Borsalino caps? Are they Doria or Borsalino??
@quadrogong1111
@quadrogong1111 Жыл бұрын
Borsalino only makes their own felt hats. For caps and for cloth hats(called “cut & sew”)instead of investing millions or billions in a cap making facility, they go to the oldest, best, most established cap making factory in Italy..Doria. They have Doria make their entire cap line, but Borsalino designs it, they choose the colors,shapes and fabrics that Doria has to offer, creates a line and has Doria put their tags in them. Of course they’ll do it this way, the Doria factory workers have decades of expertise and experience, plus they already have the multi million dollar factory,the workers and infrastructure in place.. it makes zero sense to build a new factory and hope it makes money,especially when u have no experience in making caps. Now, for their straw hats,(panamas,etc) they go to Tesi, the most elegant, highest quality straw hat makers in Italy.. Tesi makes all of their Sumer line,unless it’s fabric, cut and sew stuff like summer caps and cloth hats are made by Doria, the cut and sew guys. Borsalino even gives them the Classic Crown blocks so that the Tesi 3” Panama winds up looking exactly like a 3” felt Borsalino Verdi.. Doria makes Borsalino’s cap line. You can buy the same caps branded as Borsalino from Borsalino. Or you can buy the exact same caps, directly from Doria , branded as “Doria” for slightly less money,because you eliminate the middle man.But you lose the Borsalino. The caps might cost the consumer $10-20 less, and come from the same factory, but it won’t carry the Borsalino name tag. I only ramble on senselessly like this for YOU, Dave..❤

I don’t know, that’s a lot of money..I’ve never sold one, nor have I even steamed one up in the three decades working at Jjs. Throughout the years there have been 4-5 brands that have Italian names beginning with B, like Borsalino. I start confusing them all.. I’m sorry I cannot comment on these because Im not familiar with them. My advice is, make sure there’s no issues returning it, all hat brands run differently, there’s no way to tell exactly what size to get unless you’re trying it on. Some brands are a size too tight, like Borsalino,Roché, others run large, like Magill and Selentino. So make sure you can exchange it or return it. Sorry I couldn’t help more
