You might have heard stories of people going from unemployed to landing six-figure tech jobs in a matter of months... because of coding bootcamps. But are these stories even true? Is there actually a way to learn to code and become a software engineer, data scientist, or web developer in a quarter of the time it takes to get a traditional computer science degree? Just over a year ago, I graduated from Bloom Tech, a coding bootcamp and I'm here to answer the question... Are coding bootcamps worth it in 2022?

It’s cool to see someone graduating from BloomTech. I was a student at this bootcamp back when it was called Lambda School. I have 6 figure job now! Almost done with their ISA!

I looked online and Bloom Tech has mixed reviews some of the recent reviews advise people not to go to that school and some do it’s confusing

My experience learning at a bootcamp was certainly more efficient than what I’d seen at traditional school. Thanks for being so candid about the challenges in your job search. I agree, a great career support team makes ALL the difference. Cheers :)

It really depends on the bootcamp since most places still want a 4 year degree - Hack Reactor doesn't even help their graduates find work with career counseling.

@@SSGoatanksMost places have actually removed their 4 year degree requirement. Bootcamps have worked for years dude.

I just enrolled to a remote coding bootcamp on data science that have some similarities with bloomtech (it is in spanish) called Henry. The college path here in my home country dosen't seem the right one for me. It inspire me a lot hearing experience like yours. Greetings from a fan in Venezuela:)

Wat do you mean self-taught degree route can you elaborate? I am trying to get into coding and become a developer aswell but idk where to start and i dont kno if should take a bootcamp or go the self-taught way

I am a little over a year out from my web dev boot camp. Although I felt like it wasn't the best program, it did change my life. I have been working as a game programmer for 7 now, making more than I did in healthcare, and get to work from home. I am not sure how people in my cohort feel but I think that it was worth it. If I hadn't signed up, I would still be working in a hospital.

@@OnceUponaTimeIn-qp9sx Good luck getting out! I did not go through Bloomtech. I went through a boot camp that was a partnership between my local university and a company named Trilogy/EDX. In hindsight, I would've rather taken a boot camp where I found a job before paying tuition.

It goes to show that college isn't necessary for success, and more and more people are beginning to see this. There are a wide variety of ways to learn besides a traditional college, and these alternatives are often much better.

I got my degree, not in C.S though and now I'm in a coding bootcamp. The solution to the C.S degree cost is to go instate and public. It's like 7k (For ex: UCF) a year which is how much coding dojo costs. At the first 2 years you can do at a CC or even free by CLEP testing out. So more like 14k max for last 2 years of C.S lol You wouldn't be 3 years behind because if you worked at your degree you could've had summer internships at great companies and potentially started at FAANG as your first job. Microsoft, Tesla etc paid like 32k just for one summer if you intern there.

Wonderful video! Was enrolled to start cs. Looked into boot camps and am about to drop out of CS. I’ve gone to college in the past for web design and only 2 teachers had useful information or compassion. Great video!

Is the model still “learn first, and pay after landing a job”? It doesn’t seem to be the case anymore judging from the website. It seems as if it’s more of a 3-weeks free first then pay if it seems like a fit. Any insight into this?

That is still the motto as far as I know - just checked the website to confirm. You can pay upfront and it's a few thousand dollars cheaper but you can also do deferred tuition where you won't be billed until (and if) you land a job.

@@JackCalvinRossYes I saw the info, and understand how it works. The deferred payment is really a loan upfront, but not to be payed back until afterwards, landing a job or some time after that if one is more interested in putting the knowledge to a business or endeavor of self-employment. Still a good deal even though it's a loan one has to be approved for. Thanks for answering and thanks for the video. Cheers and God bless!

I been going to college for almost 2 years now for computer science. I wanted to mainly learn C++ so that I could take what I learn and use it for stuff I'm interested in (like Unreal Engine 5 game engine) and also to get the knowledge of making apps, software, etc. I SWEAR I HAVE LEARNED EVERYTHING BUT WHAT I WANTED. Business class, sociology, security, networking, psychology, English, etc. My college is also a joke. did not enroll for this semester. I was going to go for a certification instead. Faster and more focused in one area. But everything I see, I see people recommend a coding bootcamp. They said I should go for Software Engineering I believe? (Do you think that fits with what I want to learn?) Anyways, enough rambling. I just want to here it from you, or anybody else who has done bootcamps. Would you say it actually stuck with you? Such as, you felt like you actually learned and knew what to do when applying it to your job for the most part? Because in college.. I felt like I don't remember a lot of shit, and most of the time I feel like I'm stuck in class where half of what is taught is just rambling and easier to do remotely and quicker.

My anti-college beliefs definitely stem from Americas broken education system. I still think bootcamps are better for learning tech skills quickly but if my college was affordable (and still high quality) there’s a good chance I’d have done that instead.

University of Colorado at Boulder - went for a year and dropped out. That one year cost 2x what my coding bootcamp cost

There's something impressive about people spending a couple weeks learning about DS concepts, thinking they've got it without ever digging into the math.
