Are Comfortable Shoes BAD for you?

Has "BIG SHOE" been lying to you about "comfortable shoes?"
What if all that padding, cushioning, arch support, memory foam is bad for you? (Or, at least, NOT good for you)
I know it sounds crazy, but research backs it up.
* Cushioning doesn't actually cushion
* Support makes you weaker (can you think of a time that weaker is better than stronger?)
* Motion control doesn't work
* And what's with the pointy toe boxes? If your feet are shaped like most running shoes... they SHOULDN'T be
Why do over 50% of runners and 80% of marathoners get injured every year, despite all the "advances" in shoe technology since the 70s?
Research from Nike showed how their best-selling shoe injured over 30% of runners in less than 12 weeks.
What's going on?!
Want an alternative?

I can’t scientifically prove all of this but I’m so glad I changed to barefoot. I always felt a disconnection between my feet and my body. Since I changed to barefoot I have the mind body connection with the feet. My knees don’t randomly hurt anymore. The balance and steadiness of barefoot shoes is unparalleled. Seeing the improvements below my knees I can definitely agree with this. My favorite Xeros are the Alton’s.

Only a week in on my first pair of xero's and I already love them. To think, my whole life I've been wearing the "comfortable " shoes and have been having soreness and balance issues. After a short adjustment period the xero's (Prio model) have proved to be the best shoes I've ever worn, unbelievable! It's so wonderful to be connected with the ground again. All my foot issues have been resolved. Thanks Steve, these shoes are literally a life saver.

I made the change to minimal shoes and footwear years ago and haven't looked back. Although I have many types from various brands and I like them all, yours are some of my faves. Keep up the great work and spreading the knowledge to others!

I bought my first pair of Xero shoes this year (Mesa Trail), and now I have 4 different ones (Mesa Trail, Alston, Z-Trail sandals, and Alipne boots). I am slowly replacing all my footwear to minimalist footwear. It feels great!

Exactly!! Those comfy shoes create extremely weak feet, and numbed feet, and that affects everything up the chain.

I bought a pair of Xero Shoes to try them. Threw away all my other shoes! I now have nine pairs of Xero shoes. They are no joke. My lower back quit hurting. My feet quit hurting. I’m a loyal Xero Shoe customer all the way!!

I love my barefoot shoes!! I think of them as the best present under the Christmas tree. I just recently introduced them to someone that just got MS at 40 years old. So sad. Anyway, he said they are the most comfortable shoes he has ever worn in his life. I'm so pleased that I brought some level of comfort to his physically changed life.

I’m so glad I found this video. I have a memory foam pair of Skechers walking shoes and it give me so much foot pain when I walk briskly. I always specifically look for non memory foam shoes.

Hell yeah dude! I first bought myself a pair because I love minimalist shoes and immediately fell in love with them. I just bought my wife a pair and she loves the too. Next I'll get my mother a pair.

I bought a pair of Xero Shoes... only lasted 6 months before the sole separated from the upper and the tread wore out.

I've gotten this comment... "So, you're paying more money for less shoe?" Ha, maybe I am, but these shoes and sandals are wonderful and are worth it. I have six pair now and will definitely get more.

Given our 5,000 mile sole warranty, you're not paying more in the long run ;) I also like to point out that ultralight backpacking gear costs more than "normal" gear, because better materials cost more.

I recently got an injury - diagnosed by my doctor as extensor tendonitis - shortly after I transitioned to jogging full time with Prios after 6 months. Still not jogging right now after a month since the injury. I thought I was doing it carefully. But it wasn't enough. Bought myself a pair of Altras, I hope I can go back to jogging soon.

The issue with those is that the toe boxes are narrow and pointy, and the soles are thicker than what's ideal.

steve you are right but you must widen your toe boxes on your shoes they are too narrow
@xeroshoes
@xeroshoes 2 жыл бұрын
Please submit that feedback at xeroshoes.com/feedback/ Our toe boxes are wider than the vast majority of brands. As a small brand we can't (YET) make something that works for the significant variation in foot volume to cover people at both ends of the width spectrum.

Is it a good thing to get regular shoes like say jordan 1s and have them half a size bigger than my actual foot? I find that my toes can still freely move around and theyre not very cushioned
@xeroshoes
@xeroshoes 11 ай бұрын
When it comes to footwear, we would consider something that offers proper foot freedom to be zero drop (no toe spring or heel elevation), have no arch support, have a thin and flexible sole, and they should have a wide toe box for natural toe splay and movement. While having some of these features is probably better than none, having them all will allow you to use your feet as if you are barefoot, except with protection.

Uncomfortable are bad too they can cause in ingrown toeinal

This is another reason for why having a wide foot shaped toe box is helpful because you can move and splay your toes comfortably without squeezing your toes or feet like you might in a shoe with a tapered toe box.

why would I pay $100+ for uncomfortable shoes?? I can get them for less than $10...
@xeroshoes
@xeroshoes Жыл бұрын
Similar to, say, lightweight camping materials, lightweight materials to make minimalist shoes actually cost more than making under $10 shoes. You can learn more at xeroshoes.com/faq.

What is your thoughts on adidas boost
@xeroshoes
@xeroshoes 2 жыл бұрын
The research on ALL foams shows that they do not reduce impact forces, and they greatly reduce or eliminate the feedback your brain needs to help you move most effectively and enjoyably.

I'm looking for a YT video I saw featuring an Adidas developer who conceded that there's no such thing as "energy return." All cushioning "returns" less energy than you put into it.
