"The first time I ever really listened to Kyle Kulinski’s show was in the back of a cab last summer. The driver had his phone hooked up through the stereo and was pumping out an episode through the car speakers - loudly, as if looking to convert a captive audience.
“Do you like Kyle Kulinski?”
The driver, Ahmed, was a recent immigrant and apparently a die-hard fan of Secular Talk, the political talk show that Kulinski broadcasts on KZfaq. I told him, yes, in fact. I do like Kulinski, had come across his show several years ago, and, all things considered, he seemed pretty good.
“He understands what we’re up against,” Ahmed said. “Like Bernie.”
But I was surprised to hear Kulinski’s name mentioned in the same breath as Bernie Sanders, particularly with such adoration. Because what I did remember about Kulinski’s show struck me as mostly capital-P “progressive” takes on the news - the left wing of the Netroots crowd more than the democratic socialism Sanders has popularized.
It’s an impression that wasn’t entirely incorrect.
“I have no time for philosophical, airy bullshit,” Kulinski tells me from his home in Westchester, New York. “I don’t want to hear about Lenin. I don’t want to hear about Marx. I just want a super plainspoken, straightforward agenda with a straightforward way of selling it.”
With over 800,000 subscribers and nearly 670 million total views on KZfaq, selling a progressive agenda is clearly something Kulinski knows how to do - even Democracy Now, the long-standing flagship of progressive media, cannot match his reach on the platform. Chapo Trap House can certainly boast a wildly devoted fan base (and a not insignificant degree of media influence), but their audience is roughly half the size of Kulinski’s.
While Secular Talk might be more likely to be looped in with the progressive networks around Air America and Pacifica alums like Sam Seder than the more resolutely socialist world, Kulinski’s fiery rhetoric, razor-sharp class instincts, and knack for withering takedowns sets him apart from his peers. Judging by his rhetoric alone, he’s closer to a Eugene Debs than a Chris Hayes.
But unlike Hayes, Amy Goodman, or his friend Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks - who began airing Secular Talk on his web network seven years ago - the thirty-two-year-old Kulinski is virtually invisible in the mainstream media. Despite his enormous fan base, his show has never once been mentioned in the obligatory trend pieces on “the Millennial Left” pumped out by the prestige media. Nor has Kulinski’s name ever popped up at all in the New York Times, Vox, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, or the Washington Post, despite his leading role in cofounding Justice Democrats, the organization widely credited with sweeping Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of “the Squad” to power.
Just last week, his Wikipedia page was deleted. The reason? “There is very simply no [reliable source] coverage of this person,” according to one moderator. In new media, he’s king - the Sean Hannity of the Berniecrat left. In old media, he’s nobody.
I suspect there are a few reasons for that. There is nothing “cool” about Kulinski’s show. (As a friend put it, “‘Welcome to Secular Talk’ sounds like something you’d hear on Egyptian radio.”) His no-nonsense social-democratic politics won’t get him much cred with the Full Communism crowd. He records his show not in Brooklyn or Los Angeles, but in a studio he built himself in his modest Westchester home. His hair is too groomed and his taste in clothes too preppy to qualify as “Dirtbag Left.” Nor has he ever attended an n+1 release party. “Not only have I not attended one,” he says, “I have no idea what that means.”
And yet he’s astonishingly plugged-in for a young man in the suburbs. Wondering how Sanders ended up on the Joe Rogan Experience? Kulinski, a frequent guest on Rogan’s wildly popular show, introduced them. “You make the most sense to me,” Rogan told Kulinski on a recent episode. “You’re a normal person.”
Much like Sanders himself, Kulinski’s show has a massive audience that just doesn’t compute with our media’s understanding of “what the kids want” or even “what the left-wing kids want.”
It’s probably for the best - the very woke and very WASP-ish decorum haunting much of the media world is nowhere to be found in Secular Talk. “Corporate Democrats over-focus on identity as a trick to divert you from the issues that unite us all - class issues,” he said on a recent episode.

@@TheNewOption The superdelegate system is a method to rig it. And Wikileaks showed that Hillary was working with debate moderators, and the heads of the dnc who were working with and for her. That’s called cheating. In 2020 the front runners dropped out the night before Super Tuesday to back Biden. Clearly some behind the scenes arrangement. America has a structural problem created by the founding fathers (although they had good intentions). They designed an indirect democracy through the delegates in order to avoid the mob rule and give too much power to ignorant peasants. It was somehow well thought back in the day, many Americans were illiterate and supposedly the delegates were going to be the most educated and best citizens. I guess times changed and that didn't age well.

Biden has multiple signs consistent with parkinsonism which may or may not be caused by Parkinson’s disease. It is a severe, progressive neurological syndrome. He displays the following signs: - aphasia (trouble with finding words, mixing up words/names) - psychomotor retardation (slowing of thoughts and movements) - masked facies (lack of facial expression) - diminished executive function including issues with focus and working memory - rigid gait - problems with balance including frequent falls - moments of "freezing up" of movement Carl Bernstein has noted that many journalists have witnessed freezing in Biden that was likened to rigor mortis. Alex Thompson of Axios has pointed out that Biden only does press conferences between mid-morning & early evening & has done far fewer interviews than any other recent president. Multiple doctors including Democrats and fans of Biden have spoken out about their concerns of parkinsonism in Biden. Sanjay Gupta recently spoke on CNN of neurologists from around the world emailing him urging that Biden should get tested for this. Although Biden has admitted to undergoing some basic neurological testing showing no abnormalities he has dodged questions on whether he has had FULL neurological testing by saying that his schedule is enough of a neurological test in itself. Since August 2023 a specialist in Parkinson’s Disease from Walter Reed has met with Biden's White House Dr 8 times so it seems doubtful that Biden and his Dr do not know that he has a neurological disorder, whether or not he has had adequate testing for Dx. His memory issues are not consistent with dementia which prevents the laying down of new memories. You would then expect him, for example, to repeat things he said earlier in conversations/speeches and struggle with recognising novel environments. His memory issues are, however, consistent with aphasia and diminished executive function which affects working memory. It is, however, possible that whatever underlying disease is causing the parkinsonism may progress to dementia.

The betting markets were 46% Kamala, 29% Joe as the nominee 3 or 4 days ago- and it looks like they have switched back. And Biden was like a 63% chance to drop out, and now it's 45% chance. In other words, it was looking insanely likely 3 or 4 days ago Biden was going to be gone, but things have kind of flipped back the opposite direction. Of course betting markets are insane volatile and who knows what the next week holds once Congress is back in session, but I was feeling a lot better 3 or 4 days ago than I am now. Democrats truly are a party made to lose, aren't they? I will say though, two weeks ago the chance Kamala was going to be the VP nominee was 90 cents, and now it's at like 64 cents. So the fact it's even close to what it is right now is astounding. There is still hope, boys and girls! It looks to be 60% he stays, 40% he drops out. That is a large percentage of possibility.

Fair point honestly. To make it worse and agree with Debbie who once said this in support of Hillary. “The DNC is a private party” it is not a public vote. The DNC does not have to legally bind to any rules set forth by itself. The general election delegates can not be changed. But the DNC delegates are private party members not public.
@SmallSpoonBrigade
@SmallSpoonBrigade 17 күн бұрын
@@Mostdefinitelynotabot That's something that I don't get, why are they even allowed to dictate who appears on the ballot? Around here, the party gets no say in local elections. Candidates get to declare a party preference and the party doesn't even need to exist. It's just a way of knowing which party they'll caucus with. The top two candidates get to advance past the primary and that's it. I don't really see why we couldn't have a similar system for the country in general where the top 3 or4 vote getters regardles of party get to be on the ballot nationwide.

I have read the rules. They don't require pledged delegates to vote Biden. However, it asks for those delegates to do everything they can to support what the voters say. There are 700 uncommitted delegates, hundreds of super delegates. So they would need about 1,300 delegates to flip. They could certainly do something with the canceled primaries or primaries where there were no elections.

That's the thing the left can't grasp. It's not about age. Biden is cognitively broke. That's why the "they're both old" isn't working. This has been known since 2020. It's not like this hasn't been brought up for 3 yrs. It's even more insulting how the left always pretend like this was all "a secret". Sorry,but the average person can remember a few yrs ago without grasping for reality. I'm starting to wonder if the average democrat lives in reality. You live with the gaslighting eventually the gas will burn you.

Following the previous analogy, expecting Biden to step down is like expecting grandpa to hand down the keys of the car: it's irresponsible because his driving is dangerous for everybody, and it's nonsensical because he's not in full use of his mental faculties to be making such decisions out of his own volition. You should take his keys wether he likes it or not. About the precedent in the hypothetical case of a lefty winning the primaries: 1) They could establish the precedent that they take down the candidate only if he's not in full use of his mental faculties. 2) It's actually a difficult scenario to imagine, because they rig the process before that's the case. 3) Even if they don't have such precedent, I can easily imagine them pulling that one (given the history, that's easy to imagine).

This must mean that the delegates are free to listen to their constituents right up to the time they cast their votes and vote to reflect the constituents' sentiments. So, I don't think he is trying to set any precedent. He is pointing out that, actually, the rules of the party do provide that the delegates must act democratically and listen to their constituents. Even right up to the vote!

I've been saying from the start that this needs to be a contingency plan. The best way to do this is for the Delegates to adopt a RULE at the start of the convention (all Delagates vote on the rules and chair of the convention as the very first act, much like a new session of congress) which sets an age limit (maybe 80) in order for a person to be ENTERED INTO NOMINATION. Such a rule is fully consistent with the will of Democratic voters right now. If Biden is not even on that first round ballot then the pledges are MOOT and no delagetes are even forced to choose, nor is their any chance for his name to muck up any round of voting in which he might actually manage to win on later rounds but with mortal wounds. Any Convention coup needs to be total and complete. Lastly the benifit of adopting an age limit rule is that it is something Dems can credibly put forward to young people that they are ending Gerontocracy.

The Rule Kyle is talking about in which the pledged delegates can opt to not vote for the candidate the people chose was put in place after 1964-65 ? In which the candidate George Mc-Govern was chosen by the people and went on to loose spectacularly. The republican party has no such rule which is how we got Trump twice. In essence it's a rule that says if we (the elites) think the american public is too stupid with their choice we can come in and usurp the will of the people in favor of a more 'Suitable' candidate. With that said, if the establishment elite hadn't done what they did to Bernie, does anyone think they would allow him to become president? The democratic establishment calling for the other candidates to drop out in conjunction with the Media pushing the Biden come back kid narrative hard was their way of doing it indirectly with little to no backlash.

Really? Because so far Joe has said repeatedly he has no intention of dropping out, which means he will absolutely drag the party down with him rather than do the noble thing. If he had any sense of personal responsibility or a single care about his legacy, he would never have said, at the age of 81 years old, "I'm going to run for a second term, even though I barely have the energy to work half-days and I'll probably die while in office, if I even make it to November." No one who is 81 years old should be trying to get the most stressful, time-consuming, high-energy, important job on the planet. No wife, child, or friend of an 81 year old should be allowing them to think they are capable of doing that job for the next four years.
