For those who claim to hear a huge difference, download the files and flip the phase of the cheap cables track and play it at the same time with the expensive cable track. You'll notice that you can't hear anything even if you crank the volume to the max. A null test doesn't lie. Don't be fooled!

Yes, exactly. With a +40db boost of the null there's a difference in the signals, but that could simply be due to converters/pre/wordclock.

There’s no difference. Any perceptual differences from the video are because different sections of the song are played. No cable like this will have a distinct enough sound that it will show through KZfaq’s audio compression.

The expensive cable had a great sense of depth, warmth and a real vibrant and urgent quality to it. It really showcased the nuance of the vocal performance whilst still respecting the rhythmic flare of the percussion section. The LAT cable has a very musical approach to detail retrieval and gives us a greater sense of punch, clarity and urgency. It is a very cohesive sounding cable and I particularly enjoyed its handling of 3D space and instrument separation. The other one was unlistenable dogshit.

Thanks for providing the files! I listened and perceived nothing different between the two. I then performed a null test and the files are virtually identical. There's something around -80db, pulling that signal to "audible" levels reveals a slight imbalance in the panorama, with the mid signal more present in the right channel and the side more on the left. Again, nothing really audible or something that would make a difference. Also, I didn't dig deeper to see which of the two signals was responsible for the difference. EDIT: The difference in signal could be from the converters/pre as well. Just simply going out of the box and back in will cause some slight changes: you can record the same signal multiple times with the same exact setup and the null test will highlight some minuscule differences.

Part of being a mastering engineer is splitting hairs and going down rabbit holes to get that extra 1%. Keeping the signal path as pure and clean as possible is a given and id argue for this type of work, that small difference in definition is more than worth the price. For those wanting this quality of cabling in their master path but not wanting to spend thousands, id look into making your own cables. Its much easier (and way cheaper) than youd think.

I've done a null test on 2 of the same songs mixed down differently and every time they null perfectly, but when i do a blind test there's always one thats sounds better and so my point is there has to be something missing from a null test. Notice they always play the brighter section of the song along with the $$$ cable. This is pure B.S. The whole cable thing has been researched to death. Yes, thicker copper gives you better transmission than thinner copper. That's it. There is no such thing as magic copper or silver. Once you have a base level of high quality there is no way to improve it without invoking crazy pseudoscience. I recall a blind cable test among audiophiles where the winner turned out to be a cheap Home Depot extension cord (with the ends chopped off). It won because it was the thickest copper cable. it beat out cables costing >$500.

As others have said below, to test this you need to do a proper double-blind test. Get someone who doesn't know anything about cables (and doesn't know which is which) to randomly swap them and then come in each time and see if you can identify a difference. I think you need to do this at least ten times to remove the chance element.

As someone who built guitar cables for others and myself at one point, I can tell you you’re not gonna get much out of it sound wise. Bigger or smaller gauges of wire in the cable will start to give you a bit of different tonal characteristics for an instrument cable, but that’s about it. I did the gold ends and all that, but really what you’re getting with higher end cables most of the time is durability and build quality.

Like in all, there is always debate. I don't care too much. My longest balanced cable is 3 meters(9 ft 10) long. It's been said that if you run longer cables, expensive ones are whisper quiet compared to cheap ones. I only look for gold plated connectors if it's a cable that stays connected for a long time. I've been told that gold plated doesn't oxidate whilst regular cable/connectors do, and that any sound difference over time is the cause of that.

This simply does not hold water from a scientific standpoint, as several of the guys below who performed null tests demonstrated. I buy expensive cables when I need a smaller gauge with better flexibility, in order to retain good shielding, and I want to make sure the connectors will be reliable. But as far as the electrical properties of the cable itself, a lot of the hype is bogus.

From an audio quality perspective, expensive cables are only worth it for long runs especially if unbalanced imo. A nul test of the files shows you would only hear a difference if you're also able to hear a fruit fly fart at 50 metes away. Build quality is a different story however. I've been making my own for years. Easy, cheaper and I can make them the exact length I need which probably has much more effect on the audio quality than the brand of cable.

No difference.thank god I can't afford more spending. I referenced it through some senheisser hd600s through a Schict magni 3+ Cranked all the way up with spectrum and luf plugins for digital reference. Pretty consistent, but there is a very minor visual difference.but so absolutely miniscule, that you don't have to worry about it . So there you go peeps. Love ya streaky and Kara. I'm sorry to say that those LAT cables are a joke for the price. Just cable off of a spool that they throw connectors on. If you want something that's actually great, completely handmade, and costs less than that, get in touch with me.

The Van Damme is (in reasonable terms) a premium/expensive cable. The other one is just overpriced. What are you paying for exactly in the production process or materials to justify such a cost?

@Adam Butcher Whoa, calm down buddy... First: I was just having some fun. I didn’t say one or the other was right; I actually agreed with you, and then put in my two cents. Then I just finished with a simple joke-hence the 😁 Second: I sent that before you replied to Streaky... You okay, bud? I only come off as an ass if you’re reading it that way. I own cheap and expensive-ish cables.

I think the price difference could be argued for the way its built the expensive one would be robust more and will last longer then the cheap one thats my conclusion from owning similar cables

@@Streaky_com if you record the audio through the different cables, put the two audio files in a DAW, play them together, and invert the phase on one track, you get 100% cancellation. Even with a power cable.

Let's turn this into a competition. Olympics maybe? Green team against the yellow team. Nations could form teams too. Germans who hears the difference against French who doesn't. Later we can involve the police and military to separate the fighting teams and their too aggressive fans. Then help with the international political problems what is effecting innocent people's lives in third word countries.

On a short cables like these that are less than 3 metres, I doubt you would be able to measure any difference in resistance or voltage drop and therefore spending $200 on a short cable makes no sense however, on a long cable run over 10metres or longer, then the higher quality cable may indeed have less signal loss i.e. less resistance and voltage drop and therefore, there maybe an audible difference and worth the big bucks. In the audiophile world, the quality of the speaker cable can make an audible difference and the voltages in your typical studio cables (except for those running 48volt phantom power) are similar, so my suggestion would be to test a 10 metre cable, and see if there’s any audible difference and any value in the expensive cable 👍

i find the cheap cable to actually sound better, but this doesn't make much sense thinking about this (my brain might even be tricking me), unless you want to decide between these exact two cables, expensive doesn't mean better, nobody knows why a cable sounds good or bad, you could even exchange cables depending on the song and genre to go completely nuts. better worry about things that actually matter, building quality and reasonable price. 200 pounds for 1m cable? c'mon

In all seriousness, this happens quite a lot where you run tests with State A on the one cycle of the music and State B on the other cycle, and inevitably one setup gets the part with the musical tension and the other gets the one where the energy falls away. You have to let them swap over to make it reasonably fair.

Cables do make a difference but it has to do more with balance and unbalanced. I had some cheap Hosa unbalance cables that I didn’t even know were unbalanced until I switched them out for balanced xlr cables and wow the sound was much louder. Moral of the story is to make sure you match your cables. Balance for balanced and unbalanced for unbalanced.
