$10k is the reason I ordered a Silverado 2500 with the gas engine vs. getting a diesel. Got a 2500 mainly for payload, a 1500 has the 'towing' capacity for our camper but once you load the family and any gear I was over payload on the 1500. I love the new 6.6L gas engine from Chevy, plenty of power without the diesel expense. Don't get me wrong I really want a diesel, but couldn't justify the cost. Time to order some Arkon Cesars!

I think you forgot to mention that diesels are so easy to tune. Getting an extra 100+ hp and more torque with very little modifications if you are sensible to the parts on your truck. Plus, I chose diesel because I can do pretty much everything with my truck.

For the most part I’d say if you just want a truck and costs are your biggest determining factor, buy a gas truck. Now with that you’re getting worse fuel economy, usually shorter lasting engines without needing a rebuild, and resale value. Otherwise if you just want a truck that can do it all and you want to keep most or all of your life go with the diesel

I find that to be a false statement. Ask any diesel mechanic about there engines lasting longer is BS. All the shit they put on diesel motors ruins them. Your lucky to get close to 100000 miles without rebuilding it. You say take all that shit off. Most people wont because its a felony, plus wont pass admission plus cant resell. Diesel gas is 1 more per gallon plus additives for emissions. So cost miles per gallon is about the same. Only difference is high cost for maintenance on diesel and overall higher expenses to own one. With the new godzilla motor gas is the way to go unlesssss you absolutely tow everyday all day. Diesel not what they use to be. With money saved slap a twin turbo on a godzilla lets then talk about HP.

@@scottb6430 well I wasn’t referring to the brand new ones, most people won’t go out buying those. Rather they’d buy the older ones, preemissions, well not fully preemissions but all it’s got is an EGR and cat. As for the longevity in my experience my trucks have outlasted the gas trucks of people I work with, and we do relatively the same thing. Only real difference is my maintenance is extremely particular, I get a specific oil and additive, specific coolant, trans fluid etc. other than that these trucks should last the same

Currently own diesel 18’ 2500. All the power in the world but only tow 5th wheel a handful of times …..been contemplating 350 or 3500 gasser cause my diesel ram gets seriously pissed off at me for going to the grocery store or dropping kids at little league , she keeps telling me she’s only happy when I put her to work and that she was born to run ! I love her on the freeway fuel economy …but the gasser around town would be more preferable since I only put the diesel to work a handful of times 😎

I just factory ordered a new Ford F250 nearly a month ago (yes; the waiting for it to be built is slowly killing my soul). Since I don't tow anything except once or twice every couple years when my dad is unable to tow his camp trailer out hunting, I really don't need a diesel and decided to go with the 7.3L gas engine. I then took the $11k I saved from not going with the diesel engine and have purchased a Carli Pintop suspension kit that I will install once I get my truck. That way I will get the ride quality I want out of my superduty. Just patiently waiting for my truck to get built and also for the 37" Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT tires to get back in stock so I can order my wheel and tire package from Custom Offsets.

A lot of people talk about cost of maintenance when discussing gas vs diesel. Here's my take on that. If you can afford to buy a diesel truck, you can afford to maintain it. As far as cost of fuel and mpg, the extra cost of diesel per gallon compared to regular gas pretty much mitigates any mpg advantages a diesel has. Then again, you shouldn't be buying a heavy duty truck if you're worried about fuel mileage. Just buy a prius and call it a day.

I always said if i wanted 3/4 or 1T truck it’d be a diesel until i came across my 2011 Silverado 2500hd 6.0 it was the shop truck at the machine shop i worked at and it was parked for like 6 months. They thought the front suspension was needing replacement so they didn’t want to mess with it and used the dually flat bed they had instead. I asked if I could buy it, the owner gave me an unbelievable deal and I was the new owner of gasser heavy duty truck lol. And that suspension problem, it was just extremely low tire pressure lol once i aired up the tires it ran straight with no wobble at any speed. No i don’t tow much with it, and i don’t often fill the 8’ bed up to capacity, but when i do I’m glad to have the capability to get the job done. A nice upgrade from my old 95 GMC 1500 5.7

It doesnt have the torque but it still has the power. Better on fuel, is up to 275k, and still going strong. My diesel is a toy, built to the moon with compounds and 1000hp. Its a fuel monster, originally had 357k now has a built motor with less then 10 miles on it. The only real difference in the 2 in a stock form is the torque, the rest is the same.

Gas or diesel does not make any difference for HP, torque and/or gas mileage. It all depends on how you build it, drive it, tow it and/or race it. Yes the used truck market is crazy right now. Most of the diesel mechanics that I know prefer owning a gas truck vs diesel. Why? Because of the overall simplicity of maintenance and low cost of ownership. Also, most diesel truck owners get sucked into hype and allure of the diesel engine that can generate "bookoo" torque and HP numbers. However, the vast majority of these diesel truck owners rarely tow anything. And, if they do tow a trailer or RV, it will be very infrequently (i.e 'maybe' a couple times a year). Thus, if you own a rig that does a significant amount of towing then, a diesel truck makes complete sense. However, if your trucks usage is more daily driver or making a once-in-a-while run to the local Home Depot, your wasting money owning a diesel. Just like my diesel mechanic friends told me when I was looking to buy my last HD truck, stay away from a diesel if you don't have a real need for frequent heavy towing.

I'm not towing overly often and when I do it isn't close to max capacity. The sound of the hemi is amazing too. I could right now buy a 150kish gas truck for 12-15k. A comparable cummins truck is 25-35k. Plus the cummins trucks are all messed with. I would want a stock truck. Mainly because I would want the most reliable truck possible. Maybe a optimized stick tune type of thing. You can't find them. And when you do, Holy shit. I will not pay 40k plus for a truck that old. Then there is cold weather performance. Living in colorado and hoping to move farther north in the future I need something I can get running without drama. And before someone says how gutless the 5.7 would be in a 2500, she would be getting a 6.4 eventually lol.

Not so sure about the whole “gas motors will only go 250k miles” thing. The 2001 GMC Sierra 2500HD SLT 6.0 Vortec I bought a year ago from a friend made it 543k miles before the oil pump let go and turned the motor into a paperweight. It was a one owner tow rig when he got it at 543k miles intending to flip it. Original owner said he put 1 transmission in it while he owned it. I bought it with a fresh rebuild crate motor in it. If the original motor is any indication it oughta go another 500k with proper care (and my grandpa like driving style). Although I did have to spend a small fortune to rebuild the entire suspension and steering setup and have been chasing little electrical gremlins like door lock actuator motors, window motors, ABS control module, knock sensor wiring (apparently got crimped when the intake was put on the motor). Worth it since it was garaged it while life, has a spotless interior, and now a rebuilt motor, suspension, and steering setup. Just got the tranny checked and she came back with a clean bill of health too. Still into it for less money than I’ve seen some of these ragged out falling apart diesel 💩📦 going for.

Food for thought for the longevity of diesels argument. With a modern diesel, after all the maintenance costs and potential repair costs, at say 400-500k miles when the gas engine fails, unless you have used it for a lot of over the road long distance towing, the cost of ownership should obviously be a lot less than the diesel, and then guess what, you can likely buy a brand new replacement engine for under 3-4 grand. The new fords with the 4.30s, a 10 speed, and the 7.3 gas option are a prime example of the start of the capabilities of HD gassers setup properly. Imagine that setup but with proper cooling and intercooling to run a low boost turbo setup for insane torque increases. (diesel fanboys that don't even use a quarter of their engine capabilities brag about diesel torque without realizing the huge torque differences we see are primarily differences between a naturally aspirated engine and one with 30 lbs of boost. Diesel is better outright for true heavy weight things, but with emissions, it makes almost no sense in the light duty (1500-3500) market unless you need the efficiency of a diesel for long hauls or you have a CDL and can actually legally move gross combined weights above 26k lbs)

Gas burners have there place, if your just a weekend warrior towing your small camping trailer like 7,000 lbs, or an occasional skid steer loader modern gas engines are pretty good. However if you do any real towing, like skid steers and excavators, heavily loaded dump trailers with dirt and rock diesel is still the only choice. Time and time again from my experience the gas gets it done "Ok" but it works REALLY hard and in todays modern world you need to keep up with traffic merging on freeways, going up long steep winding roads etc. This is where the gas fails. For my weekend/personal truck not work truck I still choose diesel for towing my 5th wheel even though gas might be ok.

hey from the UK! love your channel and hope to afford to import a decent truck some day! heres my 2 cents on gas vs. diesel, over here diesel is way more expensive, so any fuel economy advantage you did have is eaten up in taxes, actually making a diesel truck or car MORE expensive to run and maintain. gas or petrol as we call it here is the only way forward right now and gas is better if you live in colder climates too like here in England. though i do love the anti-climate breathing cummins engines!!! lol

Are gas heavy duty 3/4 ton trucks worth it???? Shit yea their worth it. Got a f250 6.2L and it’s a beast. I tow everything my boss dose in his 6.7 f350 with a tune and suspension work. I mean some heavy stuff like a dump trailer loaded with pallets of brick mortar mix, pallets of sand and a skid steer on the dump trailer at once. Yes the gasser 6.2L f250 will needs to rev up more and that’s expected because diesel motors reach peak torque lower in the rpm and the turbo. My truck will run and work just as long as the diesels.

If you’re not earning money with your diesel via towing, hauling, etc not do not buy a diesel. Sure diesels are easy to tune and all that but say something happens to the injectors for example. Instead of $1,500 to fix you’re looking at $15,000. Don’t buy a diesel if you’re just taking the kids to soccer practice you’re gonna be homeless if something happens to the motor

Sooooo if the diesel is 15 thousand dollars more than a gas truck and you put that 15 thousand dollars you saved with the gasser and put it in the motor, it will out pull and dust the shit out of that heavy diesel truck that’s stock. Think about it and it makes more and more sense to get a gasser. Put a supercharger/turbo and camshaft, headers, mufflers and a tune with that 15 grand and wave at the super high maintenance, stinking like a tractor, unnecessarily noisy, over priced diesel truck you just left at the red light while hauling your 4 wheeler and cooler in the bed. LMFAO!!!! P.S. I really want a 6.7 though so maybe I’m hating.
