Had that exact same Sequoia. I sold it to my wife’s cousin at around 160k miles because I thought it was getting a little high. They drove it for 8 more years with almost zero problems, and then sold it at close to 300k for more than they paid me. And it still looked pretty good. Best vehicle I ever owned.

I recently picked up a 2006 Sequoia Limited 4x4. one owner and local trade. No accidents. Clean carfax. 37,000 original miles.

In late 2021 I bought one of the last V8 Toyota Tundras. I've been a GM guy all my life but this is why I bought a Toyota. My brother in law has a 2002 Tundra and drives it like he hates it. It too has 400k miles and still runs like a champ.

I have a 2005 Sequoia Limited that just hit 290k miles, and I love the hell out of it. It has some rust, and I've had to replace a lot of maintenance items in the last 20k miles, but it is an absolute tank.

That is one of the best testiments to the Car Wizard - customers bringing their cars across the country for him to work on. That speaks volumes that people will pay for trustworthy, quality and knowledgeable service. And again a vehicle engineered to be a good car, not last 3 years and be flashy and a technopalace on wheels. And a big shout out to the owner having faith and the foresight to stick with and invest in such a quality car, as well as obviously maintained it so far. Great video and awesome truck

I have a 2005 Lexus LX470 that has 405,000 miles. Its only had routine maintenance. It still runs, drives, and looks like it has 80,000 miles. Those Toyotas are amazing.

The 2UZ FE engine were in all 1st gen tundras and sequoias. 2 of these engines went over 1 million miles. The first one Toyota bought back the truck to open up the engine to look at it. Maybe one of the most reliable engines ever by Toyota. I have a 2000 Tundra with 301K miles now. No engine leaks at all. And the Aisen transmissions which came with these engines weee nearly as bulletproof.

Hi: I'm a former Porsche mechanic, and agree with your contention that most American cars are less than stellar in longevity, and performance. However; there is one glaring exception. Ram trucks with the Cummins engines. An acquaintance of mine runs around 25 hotshot Rams. He typically averages 650K miles per truck before they require major service. Arguable they are on the road full time, hauling 25-35K loads, and rack up miles quickly. But good highway miles, not stop and go stuff. My own 08 Ram just passed 214K with no leaks, rust, or oil usage. Everything works well, and it's rust free. My old 96 5.9 Cummins had 450K when I sold it to a rancher who paid me top price, and was delighted to purchase it. He's expecting a million miles before retiring it. Both of my Rams are California trucks, but still. Even Hoovie bragged about his million mile Ram. As far as cars go: I would only buy Toyota, Honda, or Mazda. I would never buy a Porsche as a daily driver, or keeper, but managed to make lots of $ repairing them. I enjoy your videos. You're a well grounded man that does good work. Rare to see nowadays. And this is why I bought a '01 Sequoia with 200k on the clock without hesitation. It was taken care of with lots of service records and drove so smooth you would never guess it has so many miles.

You missed the coolest feature on these trucks/SUV'S!!! There is a double visor! The main one flips out and then has the slider to fully block light from your side window...AND there is a second one behind it so you can block sun from the front and side at the same time!! One of the best features ever made.😂

Like I said in a previous video my aunt in South Africa, a farmer's wife did a million kilometres in a Toyota Hilux 2.4 D diesel small truck with zero issues whatsoever. She went to the city to visit her sister (my Mom) when it was unfortunately stolen. It was still running perfectly fine at that time, and she cried her heart out for weeks😢😢😢

I was a mechanic in NY for a little while and a family friend of mine bought in their sequoia to my shop for the first time. They were concerned it was falling apart at 206k miles. I assumed it was rust related. Anyways it came in with virtually no rust. It literally only had a valve cover gasket leak that had occasionally dripped. They declined told them alright but absolutely do not be concerned just check your oil and top it off. They sold it for $4k a week later. I still yell at my friend for not letting me know they were selling it LOL

Thank you thank you Car Wizard for making a video documenting my Sequoia. I purchased it from the son of the original buyer, an American Airlines pilot that drove it daily. The dad passed away, the son then used it through school. As a reward for making a career, he bought a 99 AMG; setting this free to me. Came with every receipt/window sticker since new. Wasn’t washed, shined, nothing; sitting under a pine tree full o needles. No test drive, plunked down the cash; racked up 66k miles over 5 years with minimal cash infusion. After watching your channel I knew I needed to make the journey as I can’t trust just any mechanic to work on it. In Iowa and Upstate New York, domestics are the rage, and nobody takes kindly to seeing a Japanese vehicle far surpass the quality and longevity of their own vehicles; so the corner garages are out. If I can’t fix it going forward, you’ll be seeing it again; as long as it doesn’t become a rust bucket. Great great channel, fantastic advise, even better to have a working relationship now too! I own an "05 Sequoia with 290k miles. We love it. Best SUV I ever owned. We've had it for 15 years. I service it myself with genuine Toyota parts when it's time. The 4.7 v8 engine (2UZFE) is known as "the million mile motor". Love your channel.

My Uncle Greg has a 2004 Toyota Tundra 2WD that he bought brand new in late 2003 has 510,000 miles on the same engine and transmission. He has went through 5 timing belts, a radiator and a starter. He never changed the trans fluid and he hauls sheet rock, junk cars, plywood, rocks, etc. The transmission still shifts fine. He drives it daily from Buena Vista, GA to Robins ARB in Warner Robins, GA which is 64 miles one way. With it being a South Georgia truck, it is rust free and he actually didnt have to get a new frame like most. He told me he would buy another one.

My 2000 suburban started crying when you said it was a pile of dog poo, but then I busted into laughter when you said other than the new York plate, there's nothing wrong with it😅

My parents were the original owners of this car, and I bought it from them at over 250K miles. Our family accounted for the first 300K or more of those miles and I sold it to the current owner. I can personally speak to what was done to the car. Pretty simple actually: oil changes every 3 to 5K miles, no exceptions (it's all written down in a notebook that was passed to the current owner). In the Wizard's video of the QX56 he shows under the valve covers and it doesn't surprise me at all how clean it is. The car never sat, was continuously used, and always had fresh oil. It also never spent a single day in a garage, my parents would pay me 40 bucks to wax it twice a year. I learned to drive in this car and took it on countless trips to Lake Tahoe from the SF Bay Area where we live. I am extremely happy to see that the current owner is choosing to keep her on the road - this is easily the best car I have ever owned and it was a big part of our lives. Thank you Wizard for appreciating this car for what it is!

Love the 2UZ 4.7, my first Gen Tundra has 240k miles, still running strong and smooth as butter. Timing Belt and water pump done, spark plugs and always on time with the Oil change. It's going to last me forever.

The 2uz 4.7 sequoia is one of the most underrated suvs of all time. As well as underrated in the toyota historical lineup. In my inpinion its the middle ground from what you get from a landcruiser and a forerrunner. Can be a great offroad vehicle if built with the right suspension parts.

I work with a woman who owns a 2002 Sequoia with over 500,000 miles on it. She just spent a bunch of money on stuff that just plain wore out after so many miles but it is still going strong.

I think the interior was very impressive. All of the touch points still in good shape considering the miles! 👍

Originally from New York state. What you say about the inspections is true. And if you take your car to be inspected at a repair shop they typically will find many items that need repairing otherwise they will not pass your car. Even if you can fix them yourself they may not let the car go. So the hack that we used was get your car inspected at an inspection station that does not repair vehicles. An example would be a tire shop. They might try to sell you some tires but they're not going to go over the whole car with a fine-tooth comb. PS being from New York I would also say the rust on that vehicle is light. The owner must take very good care of that truck washing it frequently top and bottom. So glad to be FROM New York

I have a 2000 GMC Sierra 1500, with 389,000 miles. Runs and drives perfect, interior is perfect (not leather obviously).. if it wasn't for the wheel well and rocker rust (which can be hidden for $200 in Ebay plastics). I've never been a GM Truck fan til now.

The shame of it all is that at one time, at least up until 2005 or 7, the GM eights that went into the Silverados were exceptional engines. My 2005 had close to 190,000 miles on it, and it was still rock solid. No leaks, and still running through the gears smoothly. Just for fun, and my own curiousity, at the place I get my oil changed I asked the attendant what was the highest mileaged car he has ever serviced. He said a Silverado with 600,000 miles. Surprised me. I thought for sure he'd say a Toyota or Honda of some kind. Now I drive a 2013 Toyota FJ Cruiser. Has 149,000 miles, and it, too, is rock solid. Again, sorry to see GM, and the other American cars slip so badly over the past 15 years or so. There once was a time...

The 4.7l toyota v8 is a absolute legend!! They can actually go a million miles!

I have a 2001 with 417k and runs like a top! Engine and trans have never been open other than timing/ wp jobs every 120k! True testament to toyotas reliability

I had a 2006 GMC Sierra 2500hd 4x4 with the 6.0 in and when I sold it it 388,000 miles. I had to replace all the front end suspension cause it was shot but it was still factory. Interior and exterior was still in good shape surprisingly.

I have a 04 Lexus ES 330, hitting 300k soon. Nothing is wrong, nothing is broken. Owned since new. No rips in interior, nothing but maintenance work and some timing belts.

I had an 02 for 10 years. We bought it so we could take all 6 of us on family road trips. One of the best vehicles I've ever owned. The only complaint I have is it gets really bad mileage and the clear coat started the peel. I ended up selling it last year for almost what I paid for it😊

I sold my 01 Monte Carlo that I had for a decade with just under 300,000. Perfect condition. I actually was still able to get $3000 for it. I think I changed the wheel bearings 5 times lol

Previous gen Sequoia has to be one of my favorite, large vehicles. Don't care about the outdated infotainment, overall design, gas mileage exc... I'll take the bulletproof reliability and rugged looks of it everyday, no problem. Really don't like what Toyota did with the current gen though.

Plenty of Chevys and Fords around that also have mileage that high or higher.

My 96 Suburban had 400k on it when I sold it, and bought the new 2016 Acadia, my wife just had to have. I should have kept the Suburban ! The Acadia has had 14k in repairs in 7 years and 155k. Even the wife wishes we still had the Suburban. LOL I'd buy a lot mileage late 90s Tahoe in a heartbeat. Don't really want a pickup, but if I saw one like the 95 Hoovie bought the other day, I'd own it.

Toyota vehicles are the best! Always had one. I have a 2003 Sequoia. 150,000 I call her "The Beast" and I have 2 other Toyota's. 04 Rav4 90,000 2011 Camry 84,000... The way things are going with used cars I plan to keep them forever!

2004 Sequoia owner here, 236k miles drives great and have only had to have an alternator, valve cover gaskets, ac condenser fan which you pointed out was easy to get to, which it is and that's about all I've had to do to keep it going!

My parents stupidly leased an 05, the best year as it got the 5 speed and most powerful version of the 4.7 for this generation. Replaced it with a 2011 Sienna that I now own, so maybe not so stupid. One thing you need to show with the interior on these family vehicles is the backseat, third row and cargo space. This Sequoia has a such cargo space as a similar year Suburban, despite splitting the length between that and the Tahoe, and is very versatile with its cargo space.

One issue we ran into with the wife's Toyota Dave. Took it in for a master cylinder replacement. The service center used the cheapest replacement they could find. It leaked within a month. Did not remove rust forming around the brake booster where the master cylinder mates and caused spongy brakes. They also left old green fluid in the lines. I no longer go to mechanics here in Northern Kentucky because the quality is gone.

My 01 lx470 has 450k. Same engine. Can't beat them.

I picked up a one owner tundra of same vintage, same engine 380k miles with broken timimg belt. No damage to engine thankfully. I fixed that, but then had cat converter codes I'm guessing from long term misfire with previous owner. I replaced the cat and have been rollling ever since. Currently have 393k miles. Its a clean, simple truck that is perfect for my needs.

I own an 07 Tundra 5.7 4x4 with 210k on it runs like a top. Talking to my mother's neighbor who was a service manager at Toyota said he saw Tundra's come in with 500k or more on them frequently. He said the biggest issue they had were the factory radios they were pretty terrible. I agree I had to replace mine with an aftermarket. One thing Toyota's cant get right is the radio. Everything else is solid.

I've seen a Toyota with 600k+ and another with 400k+. Both looked fine and ran great.

Love my 06 Sequoia! 270k miles so far. Runs like a dream. Take care of them, and they’ll take care of you 10 fold. Makes a great off-roader too 👌🏼

I have 01 in Topeka that has 390K also. Drive across country tomorrow too. They’re well engineered.

I have an 03 with just over 300k and I have zero worries about it breaking down. The only known issues with them are the lower ball joints and rear wheel bearings are a pain to repair

I have an 02 sequoia limited with 198000 miles on it when I got it it now has 230 or 40 roughly and still feels good but also needs lots of work and I cant help but love driving it all the time

240k on our 05 Sequoia. It's been an excellent vehicle. The roaring noise on ours turned out to be rear wheel bearings. New tires and front wheel bearings didn't fix it. Great video Wizard!

it would've been interesting to see a compression test and checking for carbon build-up for a car with so many miles

I had an 03 GMC 2500HD 6.0 V8 and it went for 602,000 miles. It had lots of issues when I got rid of it but it lived a hard working life.

I have a 04 tundra with the 2uzFe engine. It has 290k miles and I just noticed my passenger side valve gasket just starting to weep. The 4.7 is a great unit. I've had this truck for almost 20 years with no payments or other costs other than gas and oil changes. It still runs like the day I bought it.

I have a 2001 with 309,287 just did the suspension still rides like new original owner. I love it and will never sell it

My 2001 4Runner just hit 240,000 miles and I’ve had it 20 years. I’ve done the usual maintenance including replacing the timing belt ( twice) Literally nothing has malfunctioned on this vehicle in the time I’ve owned it.

With my 1UZ-FE, I simply snugged down the valve cover bolts a little as they were loose, the valve cover gaskets can shrink some over time and sometimes it does the trick just to snug them a little, sometimes not. That's one of the reasons why you see some of those "wing-nut" bolts on older modded engines that come up high off the valve covers because of the ease of being able to lightly snug the covers that have a tendency to come loose and leak. Gasket technology has changed too some though.

I have a 2003 sequioa up in Canada. 350 thousand hard miles through canadian winters. Minus 40 f every winter. Looks just as good.

My 02 Tundra has 395k on it. Runs like a top. Doesn’t leak nor burn a drop of oil. If you do proper maintenance with proper parts they’ll last a million miles

Just a minute there, Wizard. I have a 2009 Chev Impala with the 3.5 engine, with 430,000 on it. Except for a couple scrapes, it looks good.

I bought a 2008 Sequoia Limited last June and it has been AMAZING! I've been obsessed with Land Cruisers for a long time but the Sequoia checked all the boxes and I just love it. If I won the lottery I'd honestly just get a 18-22 Sequoia Platinum and that would be just to get all the new safety tech. Anyways, thanks Wizard, another great video 🙂

My 1st gen Tundra has 340k miles and drives just like when I got it with 1/3 as many miles.

Except for some of the Ford Excursions with certain engines that were known to be dead on reliable. But I agree the newer American cars have no hope of ever achieving that kind of mileage.

We have an '08 sequoia. That truck is outstanding! We are nearing 155K, with no problems (other than kids being kids🙂). We also have a Tacoma with 165K, and looking at getting an old land cruiser for a project. Anyone who complains about the Toyota Tax has never had a Toyota. Keep preaching Wizard!

I owned a 2010 Toyota Sequoia and it was rock solid. No issues whatsoever...unfortunately, I traded it in for a new 2018 Toyota Tundra. These V8's are extremely reliable!

It's the 2UZ-FE, my first gen sequoia is sitting at 270k right now, and my gx is at 255k i believe. my 2016 cruze diesel died at 125k.

I handed my 1999 Lexus es300 down to my daughter. She learned to drive on it and feels comfy in it. She is good on maintaining it, almost no rust and almost 250,000 miles. The only time it hasn’t started in eight years was when battery was dead. Next year it will be old enough to rent it’s own rental truck to haul it around! I have a 2000 Toyota Tundra with 275K miles. Runs great. I've had it since 240K miles and have had to do very little maintenance. One of the things I did do, was the starter. Here's a pro tip from a Tundra owner: if your starter ever goes out, replace it with the factory, heavy-duty, "cold weather package" starter. It's way more powerful than the regular factory starter, and spins your motor like twice as fast as the lame regular one, which sounds really healthy and starts your engine faster too. Then on top of that buy an Odyssey Extreme battery when your battery goes out, and that will spin the starter twice as fast again ;) That battery has like 1500 CCA and a huge power reserve, which is really nice for running accessories with the engine off for a long time, like your headlights and your sound system.

I just bought a 2007 same gen with 200k miles came from cali no rust and looks brand new paid 13 with 2 sets of wheels! we love it great family hauler !

I have one of these and they are great trucks. I drive a bmw in the summer (maintained not a piece of crap) and I miss driving my sequoia cuz its just so comfy and is a nice place to be in

I have a 04’. With 137,000 I have the 2wd. I don’t drive it in winter in Alaska. I bought it in 2014’ Dec with 112,000. I have the same 5 overhead sunglass holders lol. Mines forest green two tone. Just for need to know that 4.7 engine was originally intended to be a small block engine for a plane later converted for vehicle. I worked at toyota Lexus 14 yrs , found out when they brought over some techs from Japan back in 08’. We were having no start issues with the new tundras with 5.7 engines when it was -20 lol.

I had a 2000 chevy Tahoe classic that had 380k miles on it that still drove and looked excellent when I sold it. Only reason I sold was I had no need for a 2wd suv anymore and needed to clear space. I still see it driving around here and there

Pickup truck prices even on the used market are outrageous these days, but you can grab a used Sequoia for a bit less money than a Tundra or Land Cruiser. If you want a used Toyota but the 4 cylinder isn't enough power, a cheap V6 that goes 300k+ miles can be found in a used Sienna and/or V6 Camry for a fraction of the price of a V6 4Runner or Tacoma.

My dad has an 04 Sequoia that's been with the family since new. Currently over 300k+ miles and still going strong. Replaced some suspension components for peace of mind and had the radiator replaced a couple of times, and that's about it! Though with older Toyota BoF vehicles you've got to make sure the lower ball joints are in good condition, because those can wear out after 100k's of miles. Might replace the steering rack too sometime. Hope we use it for several 100k miles more!

Thank you Wizard and Mrs. Love the 4.7L engines. Try to find a good one with 100-200k under 10k. When you get a good car, invest the time and money to maintain it, it is worth keeping vs $50k every 5 years

I have a friend with a 1997 GMC Sierra with 686k miles and runs and drives almost perfectly besides a ticking noise from the rear axle on braking. BUT they have replaced anything the moment it's starting to wear out, they have been completely meticulous and it's garage parked and well cared for. It's definitely a rarity and a gem for what it is. And yes the automatic trans was rebuilt at around 380k

Honda CRV 3rd gen also is a great car. Mine has gone 286000 miles without ANY engine problems.

I got one with 280,550 on it, still going strong, small leak valve cover gasket, will address it soon, I have the same stuff with the bushings and struts due.Good to know i'll probably get another 200k out of it

Just bought a 2010 Tacoma with 165K. I spotted holes in the frame, he will fix. My wife had an 07 RAV4 with 195K, deer jumped out in front of her, totaled. We’re both sold on Toyota. Great video! Just awesome!

Owner of a 2005 Sienna here. 200k km and drives like new. Engine and transmission can be bullet-proof, if properly maintained.

4:03 NO KIDDING!! I already NAILED my head on the corner hanging down!! 🤕 I just bought a 2005 Sequoia with 363,000 miles on it. Amazingly it's a one owner car and in great condition. The original sticker says it was $48,000. I paid $1,800. I'm looking forward to driving it!

The 1st gen sequoia has the 2uz engine which is in the same family as the 1uz engine and the 1uz is also known as the million mile engine. This truck with proper maintenance will run a very, very long time.
