Love Glyn’s pickups. I have the 5% underwound in my AR520 and it transformed the sound in that position. I have a bunch of his pickups are all are good esp the mini humbucker.

Sounds great! Very classic rock sounding, so in that sense. Right at home on a proper Les Paul

The Yamaha sounds great. I had a guitar made for me with a Tele bridge and middle and neck PU's Strat. All are vintage Fender underwound PU's. I play Metal and I get 10 times the tone through high gain OD's and Fuzz pedals. I find zero down side.

I'm pretty sure that the 85/15 LT (for Low Turn) pickups on my PRS McCarty 594 SE is why it's a keeper for me. I've also heard that low out pickups work really well with overdrive.

Concerning the question “ low or high output ‘pup’s “ i’d say : medium output.. Low output often need a boost pedal to get some distorted sounds, and high output are kind of one trick pony’s, so for me medium ate best of both worlds …

I have a set of Glyns hot Telecaster pickups (Cruel Mistress) in what was a junker cheap Asian T-style guitar that had a great neck but not much else going for it. Now it's my favourite guitar - I bought it a better bridge, tuners, pots, 4-way switch.... I even sold my Fender Telecaster because this guitar sounds way better and the Fender wasn't getting played.

I would generally say that brighter and more dynamic pickups are better, preferring higher output when possible (e.g. Bill Lawrence's various L-500 and L-90 humbuckers from Wilde Pickups or Leo Fender's various MFD pickups form G&L).

YES. And NO. Low power pickups are more responsive to digital effects. But nothing beats the character of a Gibson 498. A moderately hot traditional style pickup. Modern high output are one trick ponies, metal or nothing.
