I bought a Pit Boss about a month ago and I love it. I have cooked on it more in 30 days than I have in 10 years. Smoked up chicken legs, 3 beer can chickens, pork butt and 2 briskets. The 1st brisket was terrible and chewed like a shoe. But the 2nd one I did this past weekend could not have come out any more perfect. Practice is what is required.

I've owned many Weber charcoal grills over the years and I still have one today. I also own and use a Green Mountain (GMG) Jim Bowie. For me this is a passion and for some it's a lifestyle. There's work involved with any outdoor grills/smokers, but the rewards are all well worth it.

Good overview on pellet grill basics! One quick note, once you see smoke, you can shut the lid and save yourself some preheat time. Usually just need to keep the lid open to make sure you get ignition.

As a previous Qstoves+ user, I must say that switching to Asmoke has been a game-changer for me. The design of the Asmoke pellet grill is highly intuitive and makes grilling a breeze. The temperature control feature with FlameTech patent and dual sensors allows for precision cooking that I never experienced with Qstoves. The fact that it's battery-powered and portable makes it perfect for all my outings, from tailgating to camping. And the app! It's fantastic for temperature monitoring and recipe sharing. The smoky flavor it imparts to the food is top-notch, truly unlocking unlimited flavors. Not to mention the environmental aspect of using recycled wood pellets as fuel. So to answer your question - yes, pellet grills are worth it, particularly if it's an Asmoke! #Asmoke.

Been using a Treager for 3 years now, and my old offset smoker hasn't been used in that time. Set it and forget it. Makes even a 15 hour brisket simple. I do use a tube smoker for some added smoke on quicker jobs like chicken and ribs, but still the easiest, most reliable way to smoke anything. Even does a great job cold smoking fish and cheese. BTW, I still use my webber for grilling steak. Pellet grills are great for smoking, but don't have the heat for proper grilling.

Hi Lynne, thanks for the question, but I'm not sure I understand. There is no trap. You start the pellet grill, leave the lid open for about 4-5 minutes till the pellets catch fire. Then close the lid, set the temperature you want, and wait till it gets to the desired temperature.

My ribeyes are about an inch thick. I use the 3/2 method. I turn my PB to 500 degrees and wait till it hits that temperature then put steak on for 3 minutes then turn 90 degrees for 2 more minutes on the same side. After the 2 minutes I flip the steaks over and repeat the same process, they come out perfect every time with perfect cross hatch marks just like the famous steak restaurants. Which is medium to medium rare. My pitboss is awesome and is so simply to use my daughter made smoked meatloaf the other night for dinner and it was awesome.

I have recently bought a pellet smoker, the Regal 500, and what a difference in flavor! I already tried ribs, it's great!, a lot better than the Bradley I have, and I just tried making burgers on it, so juicy, tender, I can taste the meat, spices, along with a nice balance of the wood/smoke flavor, so delicious! I never could get that on my gas grill....so a pellet smoker is a sure winner!

I may not understand your question, but the prime button, as I understand it, is for the first time you use your pellet grill or as needed to get pellets to the firebox. Usually the pellets are right at the edge after a previous use and don't need any priming.

Personally modern pellet grills are great with lcd readout display. I recently was given a rusty 10 year old treager grill, I restored parts and it worked fine , but after use of the orginal panel that only had smoke, medium and high setting. Was to much work , I replaced it with an ortec tr100 panel and it so much easier with that panel and temperature measuring.

Several questions: 1) Do you have to worry about flame ups? 2) Does the thermostatic control keep the box temperature consistent? 3) Do some pellet grills have built in timers that will shut off the grill if you desire? 4) How durable is the fire box? 5) What is the cost of the wood pellets compared to charcoal or gas?

I learned from another video, that the pellets and their ash can clog the burner. The video I saw showed the pellet burning cup being cleaned out with a shop vac. That trainer was very stern about it - saying that without cleanup the temp you desire may not be possible. This guy DID mention at 13 minutes the shutdown process for his grill was different and resulted in no pellet ash in the burner. So who knows, maybe he is right and cleanup is only crucial on a Traeger.

Wondering how your pit boss grill is versus your old trager? How easy is it to clean?
@PatrickSipperly
@PatrickSipperly 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Ron, great questions. To be fair to Traeger, the Lil' Tex Elite and the Austin XL is NOT an apples to apples comparison. My Traeger was on the low end and the Pit Boss is bigger, heavier and more features. That being said, the Austin XL is a little easier to clean because getting grates and the drip plate out is easier. There's more room to work. The down side that it's not as easy to maneuver. Most of the time I don't need something that big for just the two of us. But it's nice when you are grilling or smoking for a bigger crowd. bit.ly/2SXPJpz

@PatrickSipperly

"Disassemble" is too strong of a word in my opinion. For my Austin XL, you take off the 3 grates, remove the curved drip plate (I walk it over to our large garbage containers and bang and scrape the ash off), then shop vac out any remaining ash. Put everything back. Can take 5 mins and I aim to do it about ever 5 grills or smokes.

Do you have issues with the pallets getting jammed up at the auger?

Not yet, Jose. I think the pellets are small enough to easily move around and not get jammed up.

A pitts and spitts is one of the best pellet smokers out there for quality and longevity. But there are less expensive ones that aren't welded or are a thinner guage metal.

I bought a charcoal offset smoker about 2 weeks ago and i regret it because it's too hard for me to keep temperature lol. I'm really thinking about spending the extra mony for a pellet grill

Would this pellet grill work if all I do is basically grill is several pounds of meats? Grilling would be my primary use and not smoking. I'd appreciate your feedback. Thank you! Great vid btw!

You were hungry ! lol. Now I'm hungry. I was looking online at a couple of these, did not realize you had to plug them in. With no electric on my patio, I think I'll stick with charcoal. thanks for the info.

Yeah, you gotta plug them in. BUT don't let that kill your pellet grill dreams. If you don't have a long extension cord, consider this: www.pelletsmokergrill.com/portable-generator-for-pellet-grill-and-smoker-jackery-240-battery-charger/

Hey Cody, I use different seasonings. Sometimes I use Pit Boss rubs: pitbossgrills.77jaha.net/72Pm5 More recently, I've been using Kinder's Seasonings. In particular, Buttery Steakhouse, Prime Rib, or The Blend: amzn.to/2FEZyWv

I was worried about having to clean up ashes. Is it true that if your shut down process is followed there is no ash to clean up?

There is very little ash to clean. You can go several uses without having to clean the ashes.

How long would you recommend the time on the grill for well done steaks? We just purchased a pit boss and will use it this weekend.
@nutswanger6655

I would recommend just not eating steaks if you want it well done. Go to a tire shop and get some rubber to chew on.
@PatrickSipperly

Hi Marvin! It depends on the size and cut of steaks, but let's say they're an inch-thick, and well marbled. In that case I'd crank the heat to 400-450 and go about 5 mins per side. For well done 5-6 mins on high is a general rule for how I cook. Every smoker-grill is different so you'll need to experiment a little to understand how yours works. Tell us how things turned out!

Grab a thermometer. I just bought a nice digital set in sale at Menards $24. If it will tell you what temperature meat should be at for well done.

I agree they are very convenient very handy and turn out some great food. But no matter what anybody says this is not smoking meat you can put a thick piece of metal between the heat source and the food it is still not indirect cooking if your heat source is directly under your food that is not in direct cooking. If you know how to use a pellet smoker and for instance a side box smoker you can taste and know the difference
