#gtncoachescorner Hi! I’m training for a half ironman in june. I’ve been struggling woth my weight all my life. I managed to lose 30kg, but after starting training for an Ironman my weight has gradually increased.. I guess I overestimate how much calories I need with my added training load. My question is how to lose weight before the event without it affecting my progress?

Thanks for sharing this both. I've just started using a protein drink after bigger running sessions but not too often so good to know your thoughts on this.

I completely agree with the answer for racing the weekend before. It is so much easier to recover from a sub-optimal effort. Racing at 85% is a quick recovery if you have solid fitness.

If you are not eating dairy or meat it is not harder, quite the contrary. You recover faster and your digestion is dealing with less inflammation

And you are probably leaner so less weight to carry around

I was vegan, but I developed an allergy to soy, so I had to go back to eating dairy (yogurt) to get enough protein.
@christianwirth6965 Жыл бұрын
@@winklertribe5268there are so many more protein sources than soy. All pulses, nuts/seeds, quinoa, most grains, green vegetables. There's so many to choose from. And plant protein is, as mentioned by OP, non-inflammatory unlike animal protein. And then there is the compassion.

There's already decent protein in whole grain rice, potatoes and in pasta. Flip over a pack of pasta and read the nutrion sometimes, you'd be surprised.

The issue does not come from protein when you're vegan but from lack of iron

suggestion for @aeronwor use the olympic the week before the 70.3 to try the 70.3 paces which are going to be slower than olympic paces and put less fatigue on you.

I am a big guy and so a long run for me can do quite a lot of 'damage' to my legs. I've always found that for particularly hard workouts, so like your intervals or threshold workouts, a little protein shake with some hydration drink (I like Endura) immediately after helps with recovery. I don't do it for every workout, but it's certainly a tool I use when the dial is turned up toward 10 or 11.

Maybe not a coach's corner question but I've got plenty of questions about Maurten's big announcement today about bicarbonates. I didn't even know what bicarbonates were or how the product is supposed to affect performance.
