A MINOR ERROR

Күн бұрын

In this video we'll about my past experiences and opinions on one of the most surprising guitar brands, Schecter Guitar Research instruments. I've now been reviewing guitars for over two years and have played enough guitars from enough different brands to back up my opinions with examples of what I believe what I do.
I've also provided affiliate links to support my channel down below to check out other products that I love and believe in!
This opinion video includes a demo recorded exclusively on this guitar using Neural DPS plugins with my own custom processing. The demo is my cover of 'Facing the Spider?' which is a track from the original DOOM video game soundtrack and is a featured track off my new cover EP 'DOOM Vol. 1' which is streaming everywhere now, links below. I also have tabs available on my bandcamp page if you'd like to learn my cover of this killer track.
I was very thorough in my prep work for the demo of this guitar, as I gave the guitar a setup/intonation tweak, used gorgomyte to polish the frets and finger board and restrung it with my favorite set of String Joy strings.

I was basically obsessed with Fender. Still do own an heirloom American Strat. But after getting my first Schecter that's the brand I reach for most often. I currently have 4. The Robin Finck Signature, the Kenny Hickey baritone, the Orleans Stage acoustic, and the Odin. All four of them are absolutely wonderful.

I literally just ordered a Schecter after going from Strandberg -> Ibanez. The 7 string model I played at my local guitar center was so comfortable, I started riffing almost immediately. They had an older model without some specs listed online, so I ordered one to my house. If the Guitar Center page is correct, I'm getting locking tuners, ebony fretboard, and active EMG pickups (I have a set of Sentient / Pegasus I may switch them for, but still) for $399 (labor day sell). That neck was just so damn good. Edit: I said this without you knowing, but I've followed you for a bit when you were all on strandberg. You and a few other reviews convinced me to get the Boden 7 a few years ago.

@@aminorerror main issue was the Boden felt like a toy when performing. I'm used to my Les Paul and enjoy having a little bit of weight to play with on stage. I got a demon 7 for $340. I couldn't find a Schecter model matching '1810 C-7' but the C-7's I found looked really cool. The ESP LTD looks solid too, I think you'd be happy with either as both brands have always been solid when I've reviewed other models. I should say I am an intermediate player and have not played different electrics. I tested epiphone, PRS, and few others in price range up to $1000, and none of them attracted me much. I then came across a review online on Schecter solo II custom, and for some reason trusted the review. Bought this Schecter online without testing, and have been extremely satisfied. The quality is excellent and the tone, to my nonprofessional ears is great. I have not touched a Gibson Les Paul in my life unfortunately, but that would be the only thing I may accept after this Schecter.

The only change I made was I moved the Schecter Sunset Strip pick-up to the neck, and put a SD Custom 5 in the bridge. Based on the specs (Tone pros hardware, schecter locking tuners) and finish, its by far the best value for the money spent ($949.00) of any of my guitars.

I bought a KM-7 a couple years ago. There were a couple issues that I had with fit and finish. One was how the nut sat in the nut slot. Looks loose but it is not. The other was there was an odd spot in the back of the neck. It was a flat spot but it is in a transition and not noticeable when playing. One day I went to adjust the truss rod and it was locked up would not turn either way. Called Schecter and filed a warranty claim. I shipped the guitar to them. The employee handling my claim called to let me know the guitar was there, I had told him I was nervous about the shipping process. Then he called me 3 days later and said he got everything fixed and was sending it back. They sent the guitar back next day air. They also sent a couple shirts, some Schecter stickers, just little stuff like that. Every employee there that I dealt with was friendly and helpful. Any call/e-mail was answered or returned within 24 hours. I felt they went above and beyond. Long story long I love the guitar. I feel that they have given a normal customer the rock star treatment. It’s hard to find great customer service experiences these days. I am happy enough with the guitar and the customer service that I hope to purchase the custom shop version of the KM-7, eventually.

Hi, thanks for stopping back to the channel! It is a Mesa Mk V 25 and I really like it! I'll def say, while it sounds great it took me a while to learn my way around it and how to dial a bunch of different tones. Mesa's really are tricky little beasts, with the 5 band EQ being a very unique thing you don't find on most amps so it's got a pre and post gain EQ section to it. I'm using it to teach my virtual lessons using a Two Notes Captor X and it's taken a bit to get all of that gear dialed in (using the Captor X for Verb and extra EQ to make it sound mix ready). I was able to get a great usable tone quicker when I was running it right into a cab so that's something to add as well. Good luck, I think you'll like it but be ready to watch a bunch of videos and tinker quite a bunch to find those great tones. Rock on!

Yea buddy! I just got my hands on a Schecter Sun Valley super shredder and it is the best guitar ever! I have been buying and playing guitars for over 40 yrs. Nothing compares to the quality of Schecter. NOTHING! The sustainiac is a very fun and useful feature. You can control the sustain of a note or chord with three selections. Note sustain, mid harmonic sustain, or full octave sustain. It is a godsend for guitar players who want total control over feedback or endless sustain. It also comes equipped with the EMG pIckups which are smooth and narly for that metal attack and I must say that the guitar is bad ass for the price. Just $999. That is way cheaper than anything that will even get close to the quality of this guitar! The fret work is smooth and perfect. Big jumbo frets and the 24th fret does not choke when you hold it. All notes ring true with these guitars. Tapping on the 24th fret sounds as loud as all the other frets which is rare for most guitars. I will be buried with my Schecter. That is how much I love this guitar! ALSO THE FINISH IS AMAZING! I bought the green reign finish and it is so 3D looking and gorgeous in the light that I must commend them for this cool and unique paint job. No other company offers this quality for this price. Buy one and call me a liar! You will be blown away!!

I think I got my first electric about 55 years ago, so I beat you there! But never as a musician, just jamming with friends back in the day, and as a hobby nowadays. Anyway, your comment is very relevant to me. I got a Sun Valley Super Shredder w Sustainiac (matt black finish) about three years ago, and I love it. I'm a total convert to Sustainiacs - I'll never be playing in front of a Marshall stack, so if I want to mess around with feedback effects, they are just the job. My one problem was I didn't really like the active p/up. I like metal/shredder guitars, but I actually play more 60's rock blues. I just like the flat, thin necks of the metal style guitars. And Floyd Rose trems. Then I saw the Blackjack C-1 FR S guitar, and it's very similar to the Super Shredder, but just better in every way (IMHO). It has a passive Lundgren M6 p/up, which means I can swap it out if I want (you can't really do that with the active p/up/Sustainiac combo - the wiring is pretty complex). In fact it sounds great - nice and crunchy - so I haven't needed to mess around with it. But... even though the Blackjack was about £500 more than the Sun Valley, the QC was awful! I've had more things go wrong than with Harley Bentons I've paid £75.00 for. The neck pickup cut out entirely, the finish on the metalwork has already worn off, I've had to tap down a popped fret. I've fixed everything (apart from the finish on the metal of the trem system, which has worn away under where I rest my palm - can't do anything about that.) so I now have an excellent guitar, but I think they took their eyes of the ball when it comes to QC for this particular guitar. It was made in S Korea, same as the Sun Valley, I think - and my Sun Valley is everything you describe - impeccable in every way. Just dropped unlucky with this one - and it's all good now. But it was certainly a leaning experience! ;-)

@aminorerror

Thanks for the tip, I actually missed that they came out with a new sig John Browne model! It looks outstanding, stainless steel frets, hipshot hardware and I like to tonewoods they picked for it. Only weakness might be the stock Schecter pickups, all the Schecter's with their own branded pups have been fine, not outstanding but serviceable. In a few years when there's a ton of those guitars on the used market though, that's gonna be one helluva used guitar bargain. Prob be able to get them for around a grand or so, but I think they look great even at the new price!

So i ordered the reaper with floyd rose 1500 and sustainiac. Plays great. Bridge is very nice and smooth, the pop in arm is perfect. Its perfect. Probably best floyd in the world much like the lo pro. It plays and feels Much like a ibanez lo pro edge. But the high e string slips off the fretboard very very easily with regular or light strings. In fact with my preferred 8s its impossible to play anything on the e at all. Rip. This was my findings anyways. Im arguing with sweetwater right now because I cant use this guitar. Although i do love the instrument, its just that high e slipping off is a huge huge issue for me as most of my playing is on the high e, light gauge strings. Just cant keep a guitar where i have to consciously avoid the high e string at all times. Its hard to even bend the string because it slips. The best ive been able to do is very slowly and meticulously play very slow single notes. I noticed theres not much i can do other than realign the bridge as it definitely sits off center closer towards the high e, not allowing enough space for the high e to stay on the board with regular playing. The problem isnt as bad with 10-48+ type heavy strings. But i cant play my lead style at all when the tension is so much. And i do not play downtuned music anymore at all. really any regular playing on the high e is basically like thinking youre tony hawk and trying to skateboard through gravel amd constantly getting kicked off ur board and eating shit.

That’s great to hear the 1500 series Floyd feels and plays great, I’ve been curious how the Floyd equipped Schecters perform especially compared to other intermediate level instruments. Damn sorry to hear about the fretting out issue, that sucks! Idk if the string gauge is really adding to the problem, it sounds like it might be the instrument itself. Mine didn’t have a fretting out issue but there’s always gonna be some play in anything mass produced. Hope you’re able to get it all squared away with sweet water. Thanks for watching!

@@aminorerror yes! I have gone on reddit and all kinds of forums and youtube review channels looking for intel about the 1500 and even most review channels have to admit there is little known knowledge out there about this bridge still. I am happy to report my findings about this bridge. Its literally so perfect and smooth and easy to play. For a floyd player that lives on this thing and loves the finer expressions of vibrato in both pitch directions, and for all the dimebag tricks you really cant get any better than the 1500. Im still fighting with sweetwater. They say both their tech and salesman are really well adept players themselves and really dont see what my problem is and that many other guitars have even smaller space for the E. So i guess sweetwater is blacklisting me haha. I just cant change my playing or be forced to play heavier strings than what I am used to. Especially when ive been playing 8s tuned down half a step all my life and all my other guitars never had a high e slip issue. In fact i compare the spacing and even my 499$ jackson V that i scallopped has days of more space i can literally see the difference and feel it and it never even comes close to slipping no matter how i play it ever. Sweetwater is hella mad though lol. They still seem to believe I am the only person who could ever have this issue or like its my fault because i use 8s and play wrong and that any guitar they could possibly send me is going to feel the same if not worse. Im old and experienced enough to have some common sense when it comes to gear and technique. I dont let boomer benders tell me to play licks slower to learn them. Or that it isnt my gears fault when I already know what im doing. Ive been on forums and in bands for decades. Im still in correspondence with SW this morning. Its all bad. They are actually really rude tbh. I am a good easy going customer. Im not the slightest petty. Im hoping at the very least to get my money back. Lets pray. But it looks as if they are declining any further business with me. Rip.

@@monitorlizard9971 I’m surprised you’ve had the problem with custom support, I’ve always had great experiences with them. Not saying it is your fault but I did have a student this week struggle with the fretting out thing and it was a problem of using too much pressure and movements with the fretting hand. I’d suggest experimenting with finding the slightest pressure needed to create a clear note and then try and use the tiniest movement possible. You might find that the threshold needed to create notes is substantially less and that might help with your problems. I saw a Rich Graham video three or four years ago talking about pressure and learning to play lightly…and he’s def no boomer bender that’s for sure! I realized I was using WAY too much pressure in general and it’s transformed my playing. Good luck!

Purchased a Schecter BlackJack SLS Avenger FR-S Trans Purple (Sweetwater exclusive) for $1249 USD in Feb 2021. It is now selling for $1649 USD. So in this case it has increased in value. It’s a super nice guitar. I have 3 core PRSi and while it may not be quite as nice it’s beautiful and plays great. The case thing sort of bothers me too. Schecter makes a case specifically made for the body and I purchased it. I saw you made another video about prices and inconsistencies. While you made great points I think much of what you’re seeing is the result of the global reset. The inconsistency aspect is due to different reasons based on materials, labor, manufacturing country of origin, the country where they are being sold and a companies ability to more slowly implement the increases that are and will be coming to everything. Right now things are in a major flux and the corporate world is wanting the end user to look the other way and pretend it isn’t happening.

DAMN you did really well with your purchase, congrats! That price markup is pretty bullshit though, are they offering anything else like a nicer case along with it? I haven't been able to play a BlackJack, I'm still learning my way around the Schecter line but the guitars I've reviewed so far have all been absolutely outstanding. You def make a solid point.... COVID and all of the fallout economically speaking is a once in a life time issue especially with how the global market works these days. BUT here's the thing: it isn't our problem. I'm coming at it from a consumers perspective and what matters most to me is what guitar is a good deal and what guitar isn't. Even with the example of the Schecter raising the prices on that model, their whole line, especially the beginner and intermediate level instruments are absolutely rock solid where as stuff by companies the Sterling are total garbage. I'm def being a bit of a hard ass, but when a guitar shows up that I can't even teach a beginner smoke on the water to...that needs to be called out. Oh boy, here we go. Where do you think the overtones from the strings come from then? If the wood makes no difference why don't luthiers just make the guitars from metal? Or plastic? Why don't they just get rid of the guitar body all together if it makes no difference? Obviously there's a whole lot to electric guitar tone, more than just what the guitar is made out of, but you're just flat wrong that it doesn't effect the tone of the instrument electrified. You do you holmes, but keeping everything the same and only changing the body is scientific and it's clear as day the tonal change. You seem to also not get what I said in the video or being taking it way too literally. Wood obviously isn't the only thing, but everything in the signal chain is important, and that includes the body wood. IMO the order is 1. Strings. 2. Amp settings/processing 3. Everything else. The bridge, nut, quality of the pickups and the wood of the guitar all contributes to the harmonics and overtones of the pitch.

That's very strange, I've found them to be solid. I'd recommend making sure you're buying good strings, making sure you've got at least 3 to 4 good clean winds on the tuner posts and giving the strings a good stretch right after you put them on. Also be sure to always tune from flat up to pitch, as the nut will cause problems on all guitars. If the string is sharp to need to go past in tune flat and then bring it up to pitch, that'll get any slack out of the string (especially on the wound ones). Hope that helps!
