In this review we inspect the Schecter Omen Elite-6 FR in Charcoal. I say 'inspect' specifically because it seems like no one in the factory did this!
This range of Schecter guitars impressed me recently but the problems I've found on this one left me pretty disappointed. I was looking for a workhorse 6 string electric guitar to add to the rack but did the flaws I found put me off entirely?
The Schecter Omen Elite range were released in 2020 with several models, including fixed bridge and Floyd rose, and 3 colours being see thru blue burst, dark cherry burst, and charcoal.

The guitar store that allowed a flawed guitar to be sold to the customer in the first place should be called out here, somewhat. The dealer should be the second line of QC defense before the consumer has the product in hand.

Hey brother 👊 I appreciate the honesty..my PRS custom 24 had an issue but I loved it so much I kept it and hard tailed it as I'd rather have hard tails anyway...the block inside was rubbing against the edge of the body routing..like it was routed wrong w not enough clearance for the block...or it took a good shot in shipping and shifted it...idk I didn't tear it all out yet but I will when I change strings again..like u..fell in love w it..same when guitar center sent me a floor model strat when I paid full price brand new...bastards count on u falling in love and just keeping it...lol...be safe buddy...great video and killer guitar

That's sad to see kinda can't believe it honestly. I had the SLS FRS Elite with the sustainiac for about a month before I returned it, and was blown away by the frets, finish, quality, intonation, and binding. It played amazingly well and everything was so clean. I regret selling it now. I only bought as an attempt to get into floyd rose, active pickups, dive bombs, etc. and it just wasn't for me. I couldn't justify the price but the quality was there without a doubt.

I know man, it was a shock to me too. Though I wouldn’t doubt the quality of Schecter overall in future. I just got a messy one I think 😂 It’s a shame you don’t have that anymore man, they’re sweet but if they’re not for you then there’s no reason to keep it! Cheers dude 🤘

I waited 6 months for my lefty omen extreme 6 to arrive. The wait was bc it's lefty. Beautiful guitar, but it wouldn't intonate or stay in tune. The bridge on it was right-handed, but even changing it and using the lefty bridge off my other Schechter I had the same problem. I couldn't get to the cause of it so reluctantly sent it back to guitar guitar who had already had their tech try to sort it out and couldn't. it's not an isolated issue I've had with Schecters either. It has really put me off buying another as I'd love the one in your video, but the hassle in getting it checked, returned and eventually sent back to the dealer was a living nightmare. Such as shame as I love my C1-Classic and wanted to expand the stable with them.

I have had one of these for about a year, and mine has some dings and bruises, too, but it’s gorgeous and plays super nice, so it’s staying.

Got the low-end Damien and really my only problem was when I was changing the pickups the cavities were tooled super shallow so I ended up needing to deepening them and adding pickup rings. The other issue is that the screw in the body was made like super cheap and stripped. It has turned me away from direct mount forever

One thing I learned from all these wonderful videos is unless buying used i wouldn't buy a new guitar unless from the store itself so I can inspect it in front of them 😅 I hate paying top dollar for something and it has issues. I am glad your playable is there at least you can use the beast it is a nice looking ax.

I agree with you mate, it’s definitely the smarter decision to get the guitar in your hands before you commit to purchase if possible. I think it depends on whether you can trust the store too when buying online. Who I got this from have let me down a couple of times now so I’ll probably avoid them in future. Honestly I was looking between the Schecter omen extreme and the elite both fixed. I think I might go with the elite, the extreme is truly amazing from reviews but I can't get over the look of the elite, absolutely beautiful guitar and amazing review!

I recently bought a C-1 SLS elite and the quality of the finish is extremely disappointing. Apparently it may vary from guitar to guitar, but the QC is disgusting: Problems with the binding, the fingerboard-body joint is disgusting with some scratches and dark spots. I would recommend against buying a Schecter

@@GurtosRus Yikes, that one is pretty high end too. TL;DR: Yeah it does kinda suck :( I've been looking into one of those as well. I've seen a few reviews here and their talking about the terrible qc of schecter guitars. When the finish varies with these they vary a lot because the one I saw on sweetwater had like nodes of rust brown beautifully scattered across the translucent charcoal finish, yet the others I saw basically looked like natural finishes with speckles of brown or grey on it for the omen elite. I still end up liking them because of the poplar burl top but I can see why people would be upset with that because Schecters are expensive. There's a huge chance it got scuffed during shipping. Buying a schecter online (or any guitar) is kind of a risk because they usually show you the one with the best finish and quality(as most companies do) and promise all of them look just like that one. I've noticed even on the higher end guitars it's like that, but the one's I'm looking at are pretty cheap right now until special financing ends

@@grease3873 Yeah, that's a good point about the price - it's annoying to find a new 1k+ guitar with a faulty finish that isn't usually found on a $400 Ibanez) I hope you get a good piece and enjoy it if you choose Schecter.

Thanks for the honest review. I was checking this model out yesterday at a local shop, it was a hardtail though, if it had a Floyd Rose I probably would of taken it home. although the hardtail played extremely nice. Anyone have any experience with the Sun Valley Super Shredder PT Floyd Rose? Couldn't find one in stock to try out.

same experience with my omen elite 7 . but like you its solid, it plays great and sound great. i wasn't going to keep it either but then i played it for a few weeks and now i love it! and the red is so nice. only thing i want to swapp out sooner then later are the tuners . just needs some good gotoh locking tuners and maybe pickups in time.

I bought an omen elite 8 multiscale and it has the same issues with the binding where the top meets the body also one of the pots were crackling but I kept it because it plays amazing lol

Schecter definitely has great lineup of guitars that are not too metal-ish as of late. Don't get me wrong, I still love my pointy RG, but I guess I'm getting older and feel like wanting something rounder (and lighter. Still grinding me arse out, trying to get the Ibanez Q54 still). I especially like the look of the Super Shredder Exotic Ziricote, and if it was in SSH/24 frets configuration, I would save up for that one instead of the Q54. For the compound radius, carbon fiber reinforced neck and stainless frets. Though it does cost more than the Q54 and the number is quite big in our currency.😬 Guess that's a price to pay for the extra features. Though if there's a model from Schecter that I would get in the future (after getting the Q54 that is), it would probably be the Nick Johnston Traditional signature, especially the Atomic Orange one, so I could pair it with my RG, which is also orange in colour.

Oh yeah man, Schecter has a guitar for every style but they always have a strong identity. The Super Shredders are absolutely awesome dude, I’d love to give one a try. The NJ Traditionals are awesome too. I used to have the Atomic Coral and loved it but the SSS configuration made me sell in the end. I would get another in a heartbeat though with the HSS config. Love mine. Build quality is amazing, fabulous neck, tuners are rubbish and need replacing...though I think the nut might need some work. The cherry poplar burl is outstanding. I'm not sure I ever really gelled with the pickups, which are ok but take work to get a good tone, so swapping them for 81/85. And I went for the hardtail as I wasn't sure the FR was going to be as good as I wanted. Didn't have any of the issues with the tooling/poor build, maybe I just got lucky but mine is perfect.

Dude your tone is MONSTROUS! How did you achieve it? Also, I would totally have kept the guitar too. Sucks that the QC wasn't up to par, but a guitar that looks and sounds so killer deserves better than being thrown in a bin. And you're right, that's likely what would have happened to it. Even with those marks on the binding, it still looks the absolute business.

That is a beautiful guitar, it's unfortunate that it left the factory with the tooling marks on the binding. You can easily replace the rusty screw though.

Couple of months ago, I bought a Schecter Blackjack C-1 FRS, as an upgrade to the Sun Valley Supper Shredder I already own. Love sustainiacs! It was far and away the most expensive guitar I've ever bought. And it has had more QC problems than guitars I've bought from Harley Benton for just 75 quid! Most seriously, after three weeks, the neck pickup cut out entirely. Bad wiring in the input jack socket. The 'blue-ing' of the FR trem started wearing off within the first week. Just yesterday I was having to tap down the 13th fret, which was a couple of mils higher than it should have been at the top end, causing fret buzz. In theory, it is a fantastic guitar - the Lundgren M6 p/up is great. But the QC issues mean I'd never buy a new Schecter again, and I'd never recommend one to friends.

@@JackTaylorGuitars Yes, it was a bit disappointing. I'd spent the last few years buying and modding Harley Bentons (and a Charvel Desolation I found second hand). It was really good to learn how to rip a guitar completely apart and rebuild to my own specs. Then I took out the Sun Valley Super Shredder (I'm def not a shredder! I'm an old fart who loves rock/blues from the 70's - but shredding guitars suit me - easy action, flat neck etc - so I stick vintage-voiced p/ups in them. The Charvel has a P90 in the neck, an Alnico II humbucker in the bridge, and it sounds fantastic!) anyway, as I say, I took the Super Shredder out from the back of a wardrobe, and it was so great to play a well made guitar after a couple of years messing about with cheap ones. When I saw the Blackjack, despite the price, I was totally sold on it - it is an upgrade in every way. Luckily, my years of modding set me up well for the probs I encountered, and I resolved everything to my satisfaction. I did get a free t-shirt and some free string sets from Schecter as compensation! It's not the end of the world - I have a very usable guitar, looks absolutely beautiful, but it was definitely a learning experience!

I’d say it’s probably a little lighter than my mates Dinky but heavier than an S series. Not a really heavy guitar by any means but a comfortable weight. Thanks for checking out the video Alysha 🤘

Playability and quality of construction is the big sticking point for me. I don’t really buy guitars with resale value in mind and I’m too heavy handed to keep them looking pristine for long, so as long as theres not a great big chunk of wood missing, or the neck is scraped to hell, and it feels nice to play, I’m happy. Maybe I’d complain and see if I got some apology freebies, it’s not on that they allowed a flawed guitar to be sold, especially at full price, but I don’t think I’d send a guitar back unless it was properly knacked. Looks and sounds class though!

Hi, Thank you for this great review. After couple of weeks of research, i probably buy a Schecter guitar and i consider this Omen elite 6 as a first choice. (I stop to play guitar 10 years ago and i seriously want to shred again :) !) I have to buy an amplifier too ... I don't need something big (i don't play concert anymore !) and i have a small house with neighbours. Do you have any advices or suggestions ? I want something good enough who revealed the quality of this guitar. Thank you very much for your help.

So I have a Schecter omen Elite-6 stop tail as well in the blue and it is an amazing guitar. I would have to say that I think you got a new/store played wall hanger display model guitar which is something that happend to me as once as well ordining from musicians friend as it came from a guitar center off the wall which pissed me off. But the guitar was so awsome I kept it and it was in good shape so I just let it go. it sound like the store you got it from tried to make it right but it is still not ok if they sold you a new in the box guitar that was actually a store display model. Hard to say if it is a schecter issue or a store issue with some of the things you showed but either way things should be made right. I own 7 schecter guitars and all of them are amazing from the schecter omen extreme to the schecter silver mountain blood moon which is supper sick and you should check one of them out as it is my top schecter I own now but I also have the C-6 which is pretty sick as well. I even have the Zack vengance cracked mirror signature schecter which is very hard to find these days and I just ended up with it in a very crazy way.

That’s what I thought too initially mate but the only tape on the box was unbroken so I’m fairly confident it came from Schecter and wasn’t checked by the store. I have had nothing but good experiences from schecter and have been p[aying them ever since they first hit the market ,any eyars ago. I also have some ESP and PRS guitars as well which are just as amazing But schecters will always be my favorites for sure.

Jack, thank you so much for the review of the Omen Elite. I actually bought the same guitar, but in Black Cherry. It's so beautiful. I do have a question for you, can you get the High E action lower than 2mm? It seems on mine I can't set it any lower. I have the FR screwed all the way down. The plate is level with the body, sitting just a hair below the top of the body. Neck relief is very minimal. Can you tell me what your High E action height is? Thank you in advance.

I’ve actually done no adjustments to the factory setup on mine so I couldn’t say for sure, though I believe the high E is a fraction under 2mm already. I’m not with the guitar at the moment but I’ll get a measurement for you in a little while 🤘

Hey Mark, I don’t know if you saw my other comment but I deleted it so I could reply directly. Don’t want you to miss it and replies can be a bit janky sometimes! So it’s 1.5mm exactly at the 12th fret and there’s definitely some room for adjustment. I hope that helps mate!

@@JackTaylorGuitars Thank you so much for checking. I did take another look at my neck relief and I was able to adjust it to Schecters spec. After doing that , high E action went to 1.5mm. But that is as low as it will go. Not that I think i need it any lower. But I'm thinking something might be different on mine keeping it from adjusting it any lower. Ether way I'm extremely happy with my Omen Elite. Thanks again for your review on the guitar.

Yep, I had a similar experience, not as exteme as yours, but yet noticeably. I had two 6 string Elites, and the two had flaws. Minor flaws in my case, but I think that this series are not 100% good with quality control. I sold the blue one because I liked Charcoal the most, even with some minor issues (binding not 100% clear, or some tool marks in one edge of the fretboard). Minor things honestly, but they're there. Kept because guitar is amazing, comfortable, beautiful, sounds very good and bought them in a good deal for under 500euro. Overall It's a great guitar, very enjoyable and I ended loving mine, but QC needs to improve. PD: Bought a set of Guyker locking tuners for 25euro and this thing stays in tune like a monster, very recomended since the stock tuners are the worst thing in the guitar.

I’d have sent it back tbh but ultimately it’s how it plays, and if you get a nice vibe from a guitar you can overlook cosmetics. I’m going to be getting either an omen elite 7 (I noticed the tuner issues in the store and would replace them with locking tuners) or a Solar A1.7 next month., although sadly not an evertune model due to the price. I’d be interested in your views on that particular choice!

I actually have never touched a Solar dude so I couldn't say which is better but I did love my Omen Elite 7. If I was buying now, I'd go for the Solar purely out of curiosity and because I think they look a little nicer but from a playing perspective I can't really judge. Being an impatient sort that was the only push I needed, so I’m now the proud owner of a Solar A2.7 green Canibalismo! Plays great, still getting used to it and dialling my tones in. Dunno if its a misconception on my part. But i feel like black binding seems harder to do? Cause every black bound guitar Ive ever see has had some cosmetic flaws like small holes or something like that. At least if its a glossy binding

I have a 2008 Schecter Solo 6. Nicest guitar I have ever owned as far as quality and I have owned Gibsons,Japanese Ibanez and Ernie Ball. As far as your guitar, the front is what people see 95% of the time. If it plays good and sounds good then it stays. 👍

Being a Papa Roach fan I've always liked Schecters but I've never owned one. I can see one arriving at some point. QC issues like this are annoying, I had a similar experience with my Ibanez, some serious QC issues but I loved it so much I paid to get it fixed myself. Zero faith on Ibanez UK sorting and I didn't want to send it back as it was already the 2nd one I'd had.

Awesome guitar, and absolutely stacked with badassery, but YES...QC sucks ass! Mine had so many issues I wanted to send it back, but that ended up being too much hassle, so I'm fixing them as I get to them at this point. My main issues were with obvious file marks in the cut outs, and the high E being way too close to the edge of the fretboard. I do love how it sounds, and feels, so I'm going to fix everything, it just sucks that these make it through QC, if if even exists :\

I'm having problems with my CR-6 with the electronics. Problems that didn't pop up right away, unfortunately. I love the body's top so I really wanted to keep it. I'm gutting the damn pots & switch. Pretty shitty that a guitar that retails for $600-700 has bad soldering and electronics.

@@JackTaylorGuitars Schecter sent me a new push/pull pot but it's noisy & now the 3-way blade is cutting out. There's reviews for the CR-6 on their site & on MF/GC with similar experiences. I think there was a bad batch that year.

I'm just curious, if you got your problematic beauty from Wolf Music(Texas), sold through Amazon, that's where I got mine, and we have very similar issues. I did the same as you, decided just to bite my tongue, and fix what I can, it's so great, and so bad at the same time, I see it as a worthy project. YES, those pickups are insane! :D Oh, btw...check your truss rod next string change, mine came a bit loose after about 3 months of use. Buying one of these is kind of like asking a "dancer" out on a date, if ykyk.

Glad I kept it =) it was worth the $200 I put into it, it plays like a $2k guitar, and I have zero complaints at this point, it's just sad that their QC was so sketchy. It's so solid, and so perfect, every time I plug it in, which is strange, it still looks perfectly new! Oo great materials, great foundation for a lifetime axe, imo.

Dude, Schecter Quality Control is absolutely awful! I recently purchased the C7 Apocalypse in satin rusty grey, I dealt with failed electronics and loose wiring on the 1st one, got another sent out which had damaged binding and huge glue marks under the finish so also sent that back. Sad as it played nice and sounded great but for a "high end" product I could not justify keeping it with huge aesthetic defects. Making a video on my experience this week.

@@JackTaylorGuitars Truly I should have return it, but I didnt.. I fix a lot of problems by myself (cheap potentiometer, locking tuner fixing on the head, screw missing). I've change the pickups with SD sh4 sh2n for my taste, and replace this shit spécial floyd with schaller original.

Lol the Schecter C-6 Pro was the best guitar before this Elite one. I actually had it, the Aqua Burst (green) finish, but sold it coz................. ...that guitar reminded me of my ex. 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅 the last 3-digits of the serial number coincidentally is her birthday, and I know cheesy AF but yeah, shite 😆 reason. I bought that RG565-EG after selling that. (And as you know from the previous comment I sold that RG565-EG) But Schecter-wise, these Elite Omen series of theirs just feel cheap. It doesn't have that extra-thin U neck that first was introduced on the C-6 Pro and Reaper guitars, but these Elite Omen of theirs slotted to the price of the C-6 Pro, then Schecter upped the price of the C-6 Pro after. 🤷‍♂️

@@JackTaylorGuitars if I have a regret selling that, it's because I bought that £529 just before the pandemic (Jan.2020), and Schecter had been slapping those extra-thin U necks in 'em, which now we know Schecter allocates that neck profile to the more expensive ones like the Banshee GT-FR. Even the Sun Valley Super Shredder (SVSS) doesn't have that neck profile. Anyway, I'm on Ibanez now, I should be okay. 😅

Not happy with my Omen elite 6. Bad fretwork and a lot of buzz everywhere. Adjustin the neck and bridge doesn't help a lot. Need the help of a hummer and rasp. My ltd ec-256 has way better built quality and less buzz with lower action (and it costs 100-150 euros less). Also heretic pickups don't have any high high/mid frequencies (((

These guitars in the United States only cost about $550 dollars U.S. ; for that price, it will have all of the same problems that a guitar in $500 to $1000 price range will cost, no matter the company of origin. What do you expect really? For $550 to $1000 I would expect the guitar to come with problems. This is not a 7 to 8 thousand dollar ESP Horizon nor is it even a $2800 ESP Eclipse. These Schecter guitars are for newbies and students not for professionals. Tom Sisson

I've got to respectfully disagree with that take dude. Regardless of what you pay, your guitar should not turn up with rusted out screws and chewed up binding. If you expect a guitar at that price point to arrive with problems then you aren't holding guitar companies to a high enough standard. Thinking you have to pay '7 or 8 thousand' to get a guitar without these defects is just ridiculous. Besides that, if someone can't play a £500 guitar and make it sound good they were never a professional in the first place. Jack Taylor
