Welcome to 4K Motoring!
As anyone who has ridden the new Multistrada knows, it's too quiet! The latest of european emissions standards has muted new vehicles, and motorcycles are no exception. With aftermarket exhaust options nearing $4k, we examine a potential money saving option. Can the desired noise level be obtained by just removing/ replacing the slip on muffler? Should you spend your money on one? Let's find out!

I must agreew with you on this. The cat is doing all of the noise reduction so there is very little change in the overall sound with or without the stock muffler. I did put the QD slip-on on my V4S and it did make a difference but mostly noticeable in the upper rev range when you have it pinned. Subbed.

I have the full system installed on My Multi V4 S. The price is high but it's definitely worth it. The stock exhaust sounds tinny. You actually gain 4-8 hp in different rev ranges and you lose 11lbs, and it does not void the warranty. It makes it growly and deeper but not obnoxious, you can definitely feel and hear the difference. Go get one installed! 👍🏍💨

Well over here in Central Europe, a quiet motorcycle is the way to go. Some countries have implemented laws which limit noise. There are highly frequented motorcycle routes in the Alps where local residents cannot use their terrace or their garden just because it is unbearably loud. We over here have to be really careful not to provoke more restrictions.

Cheers. I'd like to find someone who's done the QD 'no Kat' cat delete and reused the standard muffler. I'm sure the 800 Euro also includes the tuning module. Ignoring the warranty concerns, it's quite a cost savings compared to the Ducati (Akrapovic) full system.

I have tried them before with my phone and have not been thrilled with the quality of results. I will keep looking for a more accurate way to do that. To my ear meter, there wasn't much of a change

I put a post on the forums, there seems to be a change in the exhaust specifications of the Akra. Earlier it used to say 5hp gain and I know people who are using it along with their main stand. Now on the accessories site, it says 9 bhp gain and also that the exhaust is not compatible with the main stand, not sure what, if anything, has changed. Also, like you have mentioned a couple of time, I was worried about the warranty on such a expensive and complex machinery and hence went with the Akra exhaust itself - Have ordered it, waiting for it to come and get installed.!

I'm not entirely sure about changes to the exhaust kit, I know there have been changes to how Ducati mounts the center stand that may be responsible for these different recommendations. I have seen plenty of videos and talked to plenty of people that have center stands and still run this exhaust. I will definitely post a video about it when mine comes in. One of the bigger things I have read that is often overlooked in the videos I've seen is the fact that you have to agree from Ducati to alter your factory service schedule in order to maintain warranty coverage as the bike is now considered a "race bike"

The full system is well worth the money for sound and performance gains with the remap as well

@@4KMotoring I already had the Akra slip on as it came as standard with the bike but still went for the full system. What you have to remember is that the price of raw materials has more than doubled in the last 2 years.

You have to install the full system then the bike wakes up !! Sounds Bad Ass much more throaty plus you get almost 10 HP gain !! There’s an update on the bike for that full exhaust tune which you pay for included when you purchase that full exhaust system! Sounds Awsome I’m getting it for sure !!

I have the QD decat mid pipe on my V4S Multi. No tuning kit - it's not essential unless you want ultimate performance - the stock ECU retunes very well. I bought the Ducati Akra slippon muffler before going the decat route, thinking it would give good sound, but it was only a little better than full stock. Once the decat was on I could feel more torque, no loss of power from idle up, and a great (but not obnoxious) note. I still haven't bothered to buy the tuning module. I don't think it's worth the $1,000Au for a further 6hp on top of the 10hp the decat has already freed up. Maybe it helps fuel economy or removes the Euro5 lean low rpm throttle response, but the QD decat hooked up to either standard or Akra slippon muffler runs well and sounds great, has no flat spots or problems and improves torque and hp. My fuel economy is slightly less, but not enough to need the tuning module at that price.....I don't seem to be able to buy one whenever I decide to be brave and go after one.......that's a work in progress for me. From my experience (10,000kms with the decat) it does not need fine tuning, and the dyno charts published on QD agent web sites seem accurate ......a 10hp gain without the map, plus a further 6hp shown with the map. Price of decat mid pipe was $1500Au delivered. I had already foolishly paid $2,000Au for the beautiful Akra slippon, but when I tested with the stock bland can, it actually felt better than with the Akra.....though the Akra wins on looks and tone ....but the right rear indicator lens has yellowed over 6months... those little bendy stubs on the stock can actually divert hot gases away from the indicator.....so now you know...... I might still buy the tuning kit as it allows me to install the map at home, and to uninstall if I trade in on say a Pikes Peak and return My multi to stock so my QD decat and map can follow me from bike to bike - maybe that capability makes it worth the extra $1k after all....... Go forth and decat.....the QD works with OEM single tube mufflers (eg slippons), and the Akra 3/4 'racing' system uses the stock headers but has a straight through twin tube to the muffler, so will not be able to use the stock muffler. I recently heard a V4S with the Akra 3/4 "full" system and it really did sound good, but my QD also sounds nice, for a lot less than $5kAu 🤑.

@@4KMotoring I was sitting on the fence for a year regarding decatting....all the issues, legality, warranty, environmental, and the war in Ukraine causing a major slow down in parts and production (I had the Akra 3/4 on order but cancelled due a 6month delay), but luckily I found the QD option, and it was only a 2 month delay back in May-June......I highly recommend it as it's an easy install (see vids on line) once you loosen/remove the RH footpeg, and you don't need to buy the incredibly expensive Akra accessory muffler or the QD shortie muffler- unless you want the lower short stubby look and a bit more volume 😈.......so all levels of dB desire are covered. I suspect the map might be needed with the QD shortie, but it's not so vital with the longer more restrictive stock can, or the Akra slippon. Anyway, there are other options avail now, similar to the QD decat ....one from a Spanish Co (I forget the name).......decat = Hp and music at a sensible level......not like a Harley with open pipes. Just changing the muffler does nothing....not even save weight as the stock cans are open baffling and light weight - the cat does all the work 😉. Be assured the stock ECU copes easily self retuning, but it will retain the standard euro 5 slightly soft low rpm throttle response.....not bad by any means, but not track sharp, and no worse than stock.

Use the QD Cat eliminator and u can use the original exhaust on it to save cost…. The sound only changes with Cat eliminator not really with a slip on. I use the full QD kit and sounds great

That is a very tempting proposition, especially for the price... Did you do the tune as well? The only thing I'm worried about is voting the warranty with such a technology laden bike

@@4KMotoring its on the dealer abt the warranty as its not going to damage ur engine as such. I did get the tuning kit but mine turned to be a faulty piece so returned and didn’t get a new one as it works well without one.

Very funny, i got the same Nissan Titan Pro 4x and the same bike ! I don't like the sound of the stock exhaust but i don't have the money to spend on 4.5k on the big Akra, so im checking for options and they are limited, Termi just lunch a new exhaust but im not sure of the look and there's no video of sound check. Zard may be another option but for now im just keep waiting. Have a nice day.

You've made some great choices! I'm looking very hard at the QD full system as it is $1,500 cheaper than the Akra system, but I am worried that the tune that comes with it is not from Ducati and would void some warranties

Hi , i have had a lot of motorbikes and i always cange the exhaust , mainly for looks and sound + the weight loss . As for the multi i think it does not need for looks , the orginal is slim and nice . That can not be sayed about a lot of others ! However i really like the qd full system , massive power gait (16 ponniers ) and very big weight loss. I think to cange only end muffler on the multi is a waste of money , full system if you want the sound and hp 🙂 . Per
