I've always wondered just how well those small hand blast units worked. Are they one of those amazing tools I've been missing out on? Today, I found out.

About Simple Little Life:
This channel has sort of turned (inadvertently) into a knife making channel. But the original idea behind what we wanted it to be is this description below:
Videos on our journey to homesteading. With a recent purchase of a little piece of the Alberta prairie, we're looking to sell our nice suburban home in search of a more meaningful life beyond chasing the "American dream" working for some big company and making someone else rich. It's not about the money, it's about getting the most value from the work I do to improving the life of my family.
Some preparedness, DIY, building quality things with your hands, guns, gear, and outdoor exploration.

Simple Little Life it was called an air eraser. Can be used to erase ink off paper, so not in the same ballpark. Have seen it used with stencils to etch mirrors.
@janszkylaszlo
@janszkylaszlo 4 жыл бұрын
How did you do it? I mean it still needs a way to remove compressed air otherwise it will blow up, but if you add a pipe for example, then the medium will go through that too along with the air. I never worked with sand blasters though, that is just my impression. Probably adding a cyclone to it would be the easiest way to capture all the medium. That is easy to build too if you have the tools to shape metal. Did you use glass for the window or something else?

I'm glad you said how much media you used for the job at the end, the amount is not too bad. I have been wondering about getting a small gun for a while, after this I think I'll pull the trigger. I like the effect of sandblasting some types of wood which is what I want it for.

Great! ...and incredible timing: I just returned to my shed to have a break from trying to remove old paint from a nice old tool-tray. It is a very tiresome task to get into the corners and I was wondering, how much a sandblasting setup would cost... Really nice video! I would likely copy your desk mod if I sat next to you, lol! I have some metal lighting trim for the ceiling recessed lights that came in chrome or some satin metal finish. I was thinking to use a small blast gun to scuff up so I can spraypaint them. I did one trim with 600grit sand paper and it took too long, as I have about 20 of them, and I certainly dont want texture on it or sandpaper marks. Any suggestions?

Pretty good tool. Bought one a while back, different color, different tol store, and in checking reviews the common view (from the guys who actually had a clue) was to increase the size of the port between hopper and gun to 1/4"/6mm (on my model) . This allowed a better flow of media and a less likely chance of clogging.. It worked well. Yours may already have that size but it's an option if it doesn't.

Build a 3 sided box with a floor out of sheets of plywood. Slap a four posted tin roof over the box. Put the monstrosity beside your sea can. Now you can work outside without the elements sabotaging your work , and you can recover most of your blast media. All the best - James 😃

Help please! So... I have one of these blasters, and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong... is it the media or the air compressor? I’m trying to remove stain from my red oak kitchen cabinets. The media I am using is the sodium bicarbonate, and i am using a pancake air compressor. The compressor is a craftsman 6 gal, 150 max psi, 2.6 SCFM @90 psi. The blaster says maximum pressure 150 psi, air consumption 7CFM at 90 psi. I of course don’t know what any of this means. Please help me do I need different media or a bigger air compressor?

For quick emergency blast jobs, I've cut a hole in a piece of garden hose (about 3 inches from the end) and shoved in a blow off gun with a long skinny nozzle. Stuck the other end of the hose in a bag of media. Works like a paint gun. All those things work, but like you said, understand what it was made for.
