Every organization has a “better than the rest” type of fighter, even OneFC and RiZin. In the UFC you’ve got a lot of stand out fighters, the reason being, that they’re the most popular promotion in the world. But Bellator’s got guys like Lima, Chandler and now Nemkov. One Fc’s mma roster may be lagging behind in terms of talent, but they still have Mighty Mouse, Angela lee and Xi Jiong Nan who can match up pretty well with top fighters in other organizations. But then when discussing Greg Hardy he said that Hardy hadn’t fought anyone yet, and then Rogan had to correct him because Hardy just fought Volkov - the former Bellator Heavyweight champ. Whoops.... He’s right in ways though. Bellator has guys that would be top-10 in their divisions in the UFC. I think the two main reasons there isn’t a unified MMA league where definitively the best fighters go versus other major sports leagues is first, because fighting is an individual sport, there significantly more individual voices asking for what they want and in need of promotion/events/etc. If 30 people want to play professional basketball, you put together two teams and play one game then make a schedule so all the the other teams play each other an equal number of times and even if the last guy on the bench wants to play more, if his team is winning, that’s just the way it is. Iff you have the same scenario with 30 fighters, you now have to create matchups based on size/skill level for 15 different individual competitions and afterward have to do subjective evaluations to then determine who will fight who next and when. Creating a fight schedule for every single person that qualifies as a professional is an incredibly difficult task even from a book keeping standpoint especially when there are outside variables like injuries and egos to take into account which makes it easier if there are multiple organizations doing that instead of one huge entity trying to do it all. The second is the relative age of MMA as a professional sport. The NFL and the AFL were rivals and then merged, stars in each league became stars in the new unified league. The NBA and the ABA were rivals and then merged, stars in each league became stars in the new unified league. The NL and the AL were rivals and then merged into the MLB, stars in each league became stars in the new unified league. When sports first start professional leagues there’s always a period of things being splintered before one definitive league overtake everything, it just seems weird to us because we’re past that stage in most other major sports.

I 100 agree wihh Joe in this one. They should make an organization called MMA which puts all the fighters in 1 organization in each country. That makes way more sense. Plus, you get to see more prospects and different fighters shining in the occasion.

@@omgitsjoetime Chatri over at One Championship might prove to be just as bad if not worse the Dana. The management restrictions they've imposed on their fighters as well as the self governance, they hand pick and have referees and judges as employees of the promotion is beyond comical. I don't understand how a sport as popular as MMA has become is allowed to operate with such blatant corruption.

@torarinvik49204 жыл бұрын
"Cross promotion fighting" actually happend. UFC sent their fighters to Pride to prove they had the best fighters. It had mixed results at that time. But times have changed of course. Everyone remembers Chuck Liddell losing to Rampage and Rampage fought in the final and got viciously KOd by Wanderlei(another pride fighter at the time).

Steven Beardsworth very true, but when your employees hate you, that isn’t good either. Fighters and officials leave the UFC because of Dana White. His mouth and lack of professionalism pushes people away. The Reebok deal was also a big mistake.The UFC is a great brand, imagine if it had a CEO that cared for its employees AS WELL AS its product. One of the beautiful things about conversation is watching at least one a person who is well versed and controls the narrative even though it seems like a natural flowing conversation. Multi threading aids conversation and also offers the opportunity for multi direction, because threads do not have to be related. " Im a prize fighter its about making money" New thread "isnt it weird though..." Joe did not want to discuss pay in the UFC and completely changes the thread, but seems like a normal conversation. Joe is an invested employee of the UFC and pay is something which is not wise for him to discuss. 2:30 to 2:58

I understand both points of views but I had the same position back when Pride was beating/up to par with the UFC and I guess they did do cross promotion with Chuck going over to Japan but nowadays the UFC has so many if not the majority of the best fighters in the world that a cross promotion wouldn’t really have a selling point since the other organizations best fighters are ex-UFC. We basically got a UFC/Pride cross over, UFC/WEC, UFC/Strikeforce/Elite XC cross promos when UFC bought em out and almost every time the other organizations fighters come and become champions in the UFC eventually like Anderson (kinda since wasn’t a pure Pride guy), Shogun, Werdum, Rampage and the WEC guys having champs like Aldo, Cruz, while bringing legendary lightweights like Cowboy and champs with Benson Henderson and Pettis. Strikeforce too Lawler became champ after his Strikeforce run after being outed by the UFC as well as Woodley, contenders like Thomson, Melendez but also one of the GOAT with DC. At this point with how many top fighters are spread across the major promotions, champ vs champ is really the only intriguing possible cross match ups.

Thomson is accurate. I remember USA Today writer Dan Rafael who covered MMA. In his articles his talked mostly about the UFC and its upcoming fights and fighters. I don't remember him mentioning any other promotion while he was covering MMA . So Joe Rogan is correct that the press in the beginning labeled the sport incorrectly as UFC instead of MMA, but also those writers were trying to attract an audience of not just people who were avid followers but main stream as well. Everyone heard of the UFC brand and why not just cover that brand.
