This morning I wanted to make some non-guitar sounds for a bit, so that meant delving into some of the dustier parts of the helix - the legacy synth section. In here, my favourites are the Attack Synth and the Octi-Synth - do any other modelers have the variety of synth based tones that the Helix offers? Have I missed one?
Please leave a comment if you find this type of preset build useful, so that I know to keep making them!
/ johnnathancordy you can get my backing tracks and lesson tabs here.

Get my PADs bundle here: www.paypal.com... (this folder will grow, and I'd encourage you to ask for different keys/songs and stuff that might suit this type of preset?)
I've decided to make it possible to grab both my Helix/HX Stomp bundles (the expression bundle with freeze presets has always been separate) together for £5 - www.paypal.com... - I will then email you a link to both bundles!
Try my general patches for Helix or HX Stomp in this bundle for £3 using this link - I will then send out the patches! www.paypal.com...

That attack synth patch in the intro, and your choice of lines and phrasing, reminded me a bit of Pat Metheny's synth work on "Are you going with me?". Nice! -Tom

love the Helix, using some great synth sounds. this is a great video! Im running my Chapman Stick through the Helix... I can run both melody side and bass side of the Stick through the Helix. I have a synth on both sides. This video REALLY helped me dial in some Joe Zawinul lead synths tones and some great pads!

Interesting stuff as always! The HX family do have some very usable mono synth sounds. I've had some better results using a Boss SY-200 in one of the HX Stomp's fx loops, great for putting some pads behind the guitar as well as fat lead sounds. I'm now playing around with a Boss SY-1000 now, which is a very capable modeller even though it focuses mainly on the synth stuff. BTW I now have a SY-200 for sale if anyone in the UK is interested.

I've been using Jam Origin's MIDI Guitar 2.0 plugin for a few years now. You can play chords with it. It is a plug-in, that allows you to play software synths in your DAW. It tracks OK. Usually I have to go back and take a few minutes to edit/clean up the MIDI tracks it generates from my guitar playing.

Maybe the next step for Line 6 is a combination of the Helix plus a bigger synth presence, otherwise where will they go from here....I look forward to that marriage. I always look forward to checking out your Helix patches. I'm sure you are going to reach critical mass with the Helix in the not to distant future, but for now it's still interesting. I really enjoy your little musical excursions at the beginning of some of your vids....The" Dial In Neo Guitar Sounds" one, and the "You Need this Joe Bonmassa and Eric Johnson Inspired Tones" and the "Friedman BEOD- Best Marshall Tones" intros you did were great and I am using them for practice all the time lately....Thx!

So I wanted a synth pedal, and was also looking at a new distortion and some different reverbs too. All the while thinking of how I'd route it all and what switcher I'd need to get to prevent me tap dancing all over the place! Now I'm thinking just to get a HX STOMP! Thanks for the great videos. I have been putting off getting a modeller as I feel learning to use it will be a bit daunting, but this unit could clear a lot of my current board AND prevent GAS (at least for a little while!).

John, could you do a video on how to get good/authentic sounding Bass Guitar tones from a regular guitar by using an HX Stomp and other Modelers? There's going to be a good natured battle between bassist, Charles Berthoud and guitarist, Bernth who made his guitar sound remarkably Bass-like by Pitch Shifting his guitar and running it through a Bass Plugin. Can we get such realistic Bass sounds directly from our Modelers? Thanks

Is there enough DSP to split your signal and use a Soft Synth ➡️ Vol Pedal ➡️ Delay/Verb to create a pad behind a clean guitar?

Since these are in the legacy area, if all I wanted was the synth block stuff, would the M5 do all the sounds in the HX Stomp? Or is there anything other than what was in the legacy products?

John, is there any chance you get back to make boss gt1000 core videos again? got one recently, and there is not much interesting content! Alredy managed to get good tones, but there i think it's a very needy comunity (very different from helix)

Thanks for the video. I do not think the tracking in the Helix is as good as the Axe Fx is. Also.... for foot switch generated notes; I wish you could add an LFO or something to modulate it a little over time to give it a more live feel.

@@vg99 Strange considering you never hear anything about them anymore. I could've saved $1300 if I'd just bought an HX Stomp. Instead, I bought a Jamstik for the synth stuff, a Bias Mini for my amp head, and a Plethora X5. Had I bought the Stomp instead, I wouldn't have needed all of that.
