I love these videos diving into various effects in the unit. I think alot of us just don't take the time to really do much experimenting and it's useful to have a review just to see how many options and useful tools are actually available to us.

I hope the next Helix update has a granular looper so we can emulate stuff like Hologram Microcosmos or Red Panda Particle 2

John I own the helix for a while now I never dig in to it I always use pedal but last 6 months I started to use it and with your video now I’m getting familiar with equalizing amp ecc ecc…. Im triple enjoy this system , I understand the analog pedal are amazing but this thing with little of twist nubs around is amazing sound!! I fell with single pedal driving and old school 12 cylinders car with 12 carburetor!!!with helix is everything in one box and unbelievable versatile and practical!!! Wow I will continue use this system now and for future. If you can make a rockabilly sound on this unit !! You sound great!!! Single coils pick up are alway the best for me Thanks John

The 3-Band Comp is so underrated - great way to tighten up the whole fretboard without making everything obviously squished. If you're looking for a standalone pedal to do this, the TC Electronic HyperGravity set in Spectra mode is the bee's knees.

Your tip to turn up the Headroom Parameter to +12dB on Delays helped me solve weird cljpping issues I was having on a Preset Delay I had downloaded. Thanks

You get great tones with everything you use, JNC. But there's something about the amp tones you get with the Helix/HX that just stands out to my ear - a clarity and liveliness to the tone. Thanks for all your posts.

Experimenting with effects parameters, a/b -ing them in mixes are seriously what takes up probably 80% of my time in doing a recording project. Oy! Ah well, no pain no gain I guess. And the end result can be very worth it. Thanks for showing us your faves.

The FlexoVibe is my favourite. You have to put it after the amp and cab. And it takes a bit of tweaking to get it working without altering to tone too much. But when you get it right it just sounds so full and rich.

So what I do instead of the ADT is just have dual cab block panned full L+R, and use a different speaker in each. I use mics that make the tone match as close as possible. But just having that different tonal fingerprint makes the sound feel so much more spread and real.

I’ve found good results by putting delay 100% wet, reverb 100% wet followed by a stereo spreader (200% wide) on path B. Works like a wet dry wet rig with the verb/delay on the outside and dry signal down the middle. Ballpark Jeff Buckley Hallelujah tones.

As I grow older (60+ now) I find I'm more of a guitar into amp kinda player. Just a hint of reverb and delay so it's not totally dry. I use snapshots to adjust the gain on the amp from overdrive to crunch to moderate gain. Seems a waste to have all those FX at my disposal in my Helix, but unless a particular cover song requires something special, I'm not using any of them. The FX sound great when other people use them, but that's not the sound in my head.

Yeh I don't tend to use all these live either - although I think that the Heir Apparent is probably a good one to have a fairly natural bit of push in front of the Amp - what amps do you go for generally Garry?

Interesting to see other player's favourites. Mine are Dhyana Drive, Ampeg Liquifier, Optical Trem, Heliosphere, and Dynamic Plate. Also Dual Pitch with -12 and +12 for that Pog thing. Edit: forgot the Legendary Drive as an amp, not as a drive pedal

Ooh - nice choices. Glad we share the love for the Dynamic Plate!! I will check out Dual Pitch - is that one of the older pitch ones or is it poly?
@Johnherold121

It's one of the older ones. I have to play Jon Lord's hammond solos on guitar for couple of Deep Purple tunes (Burn & Highway Star) with one of our function bands, and I use the Dual Pitch for those. Intervals at -12 and +12, both volumes full, mix at around 50%, into a high gain solo tone. It's killer.

I get a lot of milage out of simple pitch at -12 on a parallel path with like 10-15ms delay. Makes for a cool alternative to an octave pedal and has more of a live feel to it. Might run it through a bass amp if I can spare the DSP on the preset.

I'd be curious to hear how this sounds with the post-amp delay and reverb processed on a split channel L/R and the dry-ish guitar in the center so there's kind of a wet-dry-wet thing going on. Nice effect picks. Thx!

Is it possible to use the glitch delay to get something similar to the sound in “Be Enough” by Ariel Posen? He uses a Chase Bliss Thermae for it (I think!)
