In this clip from the DVD "Great Minds of Our Time," independent scholar of comparative religion and mythology D.M. Murdock aka "Acharya S" speaks about the burden of proof vis-a-vis claims that the gospel story of the supernatural savior Jesus Christ in the New Testament represents "history."

Your statements alludes to your profound ignorance of the overwhelming evidence which verifies and validates the authenticity and truth associated and singularly endemic to Christianity. Tremendous supernatural power accompanies Christ's anointed ministering via manifest powers of the Holy Spirit are profoundly exhitbited via Christ mightily anointed in every service daily around the world. There's no excuse for any American today of our generation being ignorant of heavenly manifest powers which accompany proclamation of the Gospel around the world and establishes the reality of Christ's Kingdom among men of our own generation. This is an unassailable fact of reality for any intelligent knowledgeable individual of our generation that the Lord Jesus Christ was exactly as he's Biblically portrayed, being the son of the living God. With the evils of America's youth committing mass slaying on a scale never before in history according to a recent FBI publication show a direct consequences of a nation that has turned its back on God whose president openly promotes Sodomy relations from the oval office are unacceptable conduct in the sight of God for which America will be judged to its own destructive demise for its willful arrogance against divine law and authority.

Traditional Values What's "Traditional Values"? the troll account for tekton and JP Holding? Making outrageous claims based on faith and euphoria no longer works as Christians have failed utterly to substantiate their claims. Even New Testament scholars disagree with you TV: "Apart from the New Testament writings and later writings dependent upon these, our sources of information about the life and teaching of Jesus are scanty and problematic" F.F. Bruce, a founder of the modern evangelical movement - Who Was Jesus? 84 "...there are very few sources for knowledge of the historical Jesus beyond the four canonical Gospels. Paul and Josephus offer little more than tidbits. Claims that later apocryphal Gospels and the Nag Hammadi material supply independent and reliable historical information about Jesus are largely fantasy." John P. Meier - Who Was Jesus? 86 "...Christian scholars over the centuries have admitted that ... "there are parallels between the Mysteries and Christianity"1 and that "the miracle stories of the Gospels do in fact parallel literary forms found in pagan and Jewish miracle stories,"2 "...According to Form Criticism the Gospels are more like folklore and myth than historical fact."3 1. Metzger, HLS, 8. 2. Meier, II, 536. 3. Geisler, CA, 320. - Who Was Jesus? 259 "The Gospels are neither histories nor biographies, even within the ancient tolerances for those genres." Dr. John Dominic Crossan - Who Was Jesus? 24 Even Judaism disagrees with you TV: "The only definite account of his life and teachings is contained in the four Gospels of the New Testament, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. All other historical records of the time are silent about him. The brief mentions of Jesus in the writings of Josephus, Tacitus and Suetonius have been generally regarded as not genuine and as Christian interpolations; in Jewish writings there is no report about Jesus that has historical value. Some scholars have even gone so far as to hold that the entire Jesus story is a myth…" - The Universal Jewish Encyclopedia

Traditional Values I gotta say... for someone who indicates itself to be fighting against ignorance, you sure have a very peculiar way with grammar. And not in a good way. That's not a good place to start. Also, just, by the way... hallucinations, faith healing, etc... not exactly supernatural. There is a lot that goes in to it, and none of that that goes in to it is supernatural... then again, I don't expect you to understand this comment.

"The best cure for Christianity is reading the bible" (Mark Twain) "The bible has driven reason from the minds of millions,It has made credulity the greatest of virtues,and investigation the greatest of crimes,The instant we admit that a book is too sacred to be doubted or even reasoned about.we are mental serfs," How long will mankind worship a book?How long will it grovel in the dust before the ignorant legends of the barbaric past." (Robert Ingersoll) Most of what discredits Christianity comes from within Christianity,You don't have to go outside of religion to tear it apart." I had zero choice in the matter. My 'faith' simply evaporated beyond my control even as I tried to hang on to it and rationalize that while not all of it is factual, the spiritual elements/basics are. I *wanted* it to be true. Luckily, I wasn't raised from birth with fundamentalist indoctrination. While my parents believed in god and Jesus, it was in a very broad sense). The indoctrination didn't begin until age nine when I attended a Southern Baptist Christian school (4th through 9th grade and even then, my questioning of some of the outlandish assertions, e.g., the world flood, 6000 year old earth, a loving god with an infinite torture chamber reserved for non-believers effectively resulted in my expulsion by being asked not to return for 10th grade), so I didn't fall into the 'give me a child until age seven' scenario. I imagine those who are born into fundamentalism have an exponentially more difficult time waking up.

I wanted to believe in order to belong, to find a made within the faith and have kids. The American dream. What made me stop trying to believe was after I started to understand human behavior, dark triad traits and anatomy of a good lie. It is natural to want to not die, to keep existing after we die when we do, and to belong to something greater (to that of the faith, as a child of God). Religion just uses our good nature.

Jonathan Stiles she did have the respect of quite a few people. Most so called scholars who blew her off wee sexist. Many people didn't agree with her but she was never dismissed out of hand. There are quite a few mythicists and astrotheology supporters out there. Although it has not become a mainstream source of Christ Myth theory it's there and slowly but surely gaining ground. We all know that all religion is a conspiracy to control the masses by instilling fear. Religion is pure bullshit pure and simple.

Scholars and others who've actually studied Acharya's work tend to be supportive: "I find it undeniable that many of the epic heroes and ancient patriarchs and matriarchs of the Old Testament were personified stars, planets, and constellations." "I find myself in full agreement with Acharya S/D.M. Murdock" - Dr. Robert Price, Biblical Scholar with two Ph.D's Earl Doherty defers to Acharya for the subject of astrotheology: "A heavenly location for the actions of the savior gods, including the death of Christ, would also have been influenced by most religions' ultimate derivation from astrotheology, as in the worship of the sun and moon. For this dimension of more remote Christian roots, see the books of Acharya S" - Earl Doherty, Jesus: Neither God Nor Man, (2009) page 153 "Your scholarship is relentless! ...the research conducted by D.M. Murdock concerning the myth of Jesus Christ is certainly both valuable and worthy of consideration." - Dr. Ken Feder, Professor of Archaeology "...In recent months or over the last year or so I have interviewed Frank Zindler and Richard Carrier and David Fitzgerald and Robert Price all on the issue of mythicism ... when I spoke to these people I asked for their expertise collectively and what I got, especially from Fitzgerald and Robert Price, was that we should be speaking to tonights guest D.M. Murdock,author of 'Did Moses Exist? The Myth of the Israelite Lawgiver'." - Aron Ra, The Ra Men podcast EP10 - Did Moses Exist? with D.M. Murdock "I've known people with triple Ph.D's who haven't come close to the scholarship in Who Was Jesus?" - Pastor David Bruce, M.Div "...I have found her scholarship, research, knowledge of the original languages, and creative linkages to be breathtaking and highly stimulating." - Rev. Dr. Jon Burnham, Pastor "I can recommend your work whole-heartedly!" - Dr. Robert Eisenman ; )

he never HAD to exist for the reality of his STORY and his character to be true. It's a story about the divine nature of every human being. We all have "Christ" in us. It's not a person. It's an invisible power, explained by myth, allegory, metaphor, etc.

The message of the Christ avatar character in the story remains untouched. Just like Krishna. Just like Buddha. Just like Osiris. The avatar of the story had a message. The message is the most important thing. So that begs the question, what do you suppose the "gospel of Christ" to be? The gospel he preached. You think you "know" it, I'm sure. But I would venture to bet that you really don't know how to articulate it, based on the truth contained in the "story" given in the scripture! Notice how religion has jaded and divided people from one another over dogma? Its all inside you. Pick an avatar. Any story well studied brings you to the same divine truth. We are indeed divine beings...created in the "image" of gawd. Doh!! Did you forget the story dude? Greater is he that is IN YOU....

@@maxdoubt5219 This is literally from that page….also this isn’t even all of it but just a small excerpt….(thanks for your reply though!) “Scholarly reception - Lack of support for mythicism In modern scholarship, the Christ myth theory is a fringe theory, which finds virtually no support from scholars, to the point of being addressed in footnotes or almost completely ignored due to the obvious weaknesses they espouse. Common criticisms against the Christ myth theory include: general lack of expertise or relationship to academic institutions and current scholarship; reliance on arguments from silence, dismissal of what sources actually state, and superficial comparisons with mythologies. According to agnostic scholar Bart D. Ehrman, nearly all scholars who study the early Christian period believe that he did exist and Ehrman observes that mythicist writings are generally of poor quality because they are usually authored by amateurs and non-scholars who have no academic credentials or have never taught at academic institutions.” So I’m not sure what the “more and more scholars are agreeing comes from”. According to Bart Ehrman this is just simply false, he is quoted saying only a few years ago that you won’t find one top, reputable, peer reviewed, editorial board reviewed, scholar, with relevant training in the fields related to this study, ever suggesting that Jesus didn’t exist, get baptized by John, and die by crucifixtion. Sure historians can’t take the supernatural parts seriously though and some might outright claim they’re myths

Raymond warren Denied history? I don't believe that the man called Jesus existed as he was portrayed in the Bible. There is not ONE "contemporary, CONTEMPORARY" historian who wrote about him. The New Testament was not a CONTEMPORARY account of what happened during the time of the man called Jesus. It was written from 30 to 150 years after his alleged death. It is loaded with contradictions and falsehoods, PROVEN FALSEHOODS. And using the Bible to prove that he did indeed exist is like using a Superman comic book to prove the existence of Superman.You say that supernatural events should be discarded. Well then THAT in itself would eliminate the Jesus carachter from the get-go since he was "born" of a virgen birth. You have just proved my point and I thank you for that.

Raymond warren Matthew 27:52: The Death of Jesus …51At that moment the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth quaked and the rocks were split. 52The tombs broke open, and the bodies of many saints who had fallen asleep were raised. 53After Jesus’ resurrection, when they had come out of the tombs, they entered the holy city and appeared to many people.… Raymond, it would behoove you to actually READ the Bible. @@dougoverhoff7568 I notice that you failed to even attempt to name the fallacy you had claimed. Most likely that is because you religitards have no clue what a fallacy is. As to examples, firstly; you are really not even giving the subject any thought at all or you would not have to ask. However, if you want an example that is quite easy. Let us say that a friend tells you that he & his wife went to dinner at the new seafood restaurant in town. What proof would you require in order to believe him? You probably would not need anything more than his say so right? On the other hand; what if your friend told you he had been abducted by aliens? What kind of evidence would you require to believe him then? Now think about the reason for the difference between the two things. One is ordinary & one is extraordinary....... Get it?
@dougoverhoff7568
@dougoverhoff7568 4 жыл бұрын
@@skyeangelofdeath7363 Not all fallacies are logical fallacies, some are just lies or untruths, a mistaken belief, or a false notion. In the case of the claim in question, I would simply say that it is a nonsequitur, if you're looking for a technical term. Your analogy is quite interesting, but does not describe a fallacy. Neither would I believe your friend, even if he were to provide some extraordinary "evidence", as I don't have any doubt as to the fact that he would have been lying. There's a difference between what I would call extraordinary, and what's flat out impossible, inconceivable, or beyond reason. We see people doing extraordinary things all the time, and extraordinary events, too. We see them on TV, or on KZfaq, and even in person. But, we don't require anyone to provide any extraordinary evidence along with it, nor do we ask for it, in order for us to believe it. So, how do we describe "extraordinary", and who is to be the judge of that? I'm not arguing that some things are hard to believe, but only that not everything that seems extraordinary to us is, in fact, all that difficult to explain. And does not require "extraordinary" evidence for it to be believed: only normal, ordinary, and believable evidence.

Matthew Engheta Honestly you're clueless. Ehrman is a great linguist, but his book on the existence of Jesus got shredded by Carrier and Price, amongst others. In other words Ehrman got his ass owned. Btw Robert M. Price thought her ideas were very interesting, and did have academic value. And btw most Biblical Scholarship is a joke. Many scholars have to affirm the Bible regardless of any contradicting evidence or they lose their job. Fitzgerald did a poll of the religious affiliations of Biblical scholars. 70% were Christian, and 40% of them were contractually obligated to not deny the Bible. Brodie is a perfect example. He's now Emeritus. Said Jesus is a myth, and he no longer had a job. So you can piss off with your most scholars agree argument, because the evidence doesn't remotely add up to nonsense they claim, using methods that historians would laugh at.

Scholars who've actually studied Acharya's work tend to be supportive: "I find it undeniable that many of the epic heroes and ancient patriarchs and matriarchs of the Old Testament were personified stars, planets, and constellations." "I find myself in full agreement with Acharya S/D.M. Murdock" - Dr. Robert Price, Biblical Scholar with two Ph.D's "Your scholarship is relentless! ...the research conducted by D.M. Murdock concerning the myth of Jesus Christ is certainly both valuable and worthy of consideration." - Dr. Ken Feder, Professor of Archaeology Earl Doherty defers to Acharya for the subject of astrotheology: "A heavenly location for the actions of the savior gods, including the death of Christ, would also have been influenced by most religions' ultimate derivation from astrotheology, as in the worship of the sun and moon. For this dimension of more remote Christian roots, see the books of Acharya S" - Earl Doherty, Jesus: Neither God Nor Man, (2009) page 153 "...In recent months or over the last year or so I have interviewed Frank Zindler and Richard Carrier and David Fitzgerald and Robert Price all on the issue of mythicism ... when I spoke to these people I asked for their expertise collectively and what I got, especially from Fitzgerald and Robert Price, was that we should be speaking to tonights guest D.M. Robert Eisenman Here's what Dr. Robert Price had to say about this issue regarding Bart Errorman: “Such libel only reveals a total disinclination to do a fraction of the research manifest on any singe page of Acharya’s works.” - Dr. Robert Price, page xxi of the book, ‘Bart Erhman and the Quest of the Historical Jesus of Nazareth: An Evaluation of Ehrman’s Did Jesus Exist?’ Richard Carrier defended Acharya on this issue in the book too as well as across several of his own blogs: “At the very least I would expect Ehrman to have called the Vatican museum about this, and to have checked the literature on it, before arrogantly declaring no such object existed and implying Murdock made this up … She did not make that up. The reason this error troubles me is that it is indicative of the carelessness and arrogance Ehrman exhibits throughout this book … [Ehrman] often doesn’t check his facts, and clearly did little to no research. This makes the book extremely unreliable. A reader must ask, if he got this wrong, what other assertions in the book are false? And since making sure to get details like this right is the only useful purpose this book could have had, how can we credit this book as anything but a failure?” freethoughtnation.com/the-phallic-savior-of-the-world-hidden-in-the-vatican/#comment-11233 Bart Ehrman caught in lies and libel? freethoughtnation.com/bart-ehrman-caught-in-lies-and-libel/ Here's what non-biased scholars say about Jesus: "The only definite account of his life and teachings is contained in the four Gospels of the New Testament, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. All other historical records of the time are silent about him. The brief mentions of Jesus in the writings of Josephus, Tacitus and Suetonius have been generally regarded as not genuine and as Christian interpolations; in Jewish writings there is no report about Jesus that has historical value. Some scholars have even gone so far as to hold that the entire Jesus story is a myth." - The Universal Jewish Encyclopedia Below are some very interesting comments by highly respected scholars: "This book is a slightly revised version of my doctoral dissertation entitled “Solar Worship in the Biblical World” which was submitted to the Graduate School of Yale University in the Spring of 1989. As may be judged from the title of that work, I had at one time planned to cover more territory than sun worship in ancient Israel, but found the material pertaining to ancient Israel so vast that I never got beyond it." - Rev. Dr. J. Glen Taylor, "Yahweh and the Sun: Biblical and Archaeological Evidence for Sun Worship in Ancient Israel" (1993) "At Stonehenge in England and Carnac in France, in Egypt and Yucatan, across the whole face of the earth are found mysterious ruins of ancient monuments, monuments with astronomical significance. These relics of other times are as accessible as the American Midwest and as remote as the jungles of Guatemala. Some of them were built according to celestial alignments; others were actually precision astronomical observatories ... Careful observation of the celestial rhythms was compellingly important to early peoples, and their expertise, in some respects, was not equaled in Europe until three thousand years later." - Dr. Edwin Krupp, astronomer and director at Griffith Park Observatory in Los Angeles Star Worship of the Ancient Israelites astrotheology.net/star-worship-of-the-ancient-israelites/ ; )

There is not one written eyewitness account of Jesus during his lifetime. Strange since he was famous at birth, because wise men expected to see the future king of Jews who was born from a virgin married mother. Every leading Christian scholar since Erasmus, five hundred years ago, has maintained that the gospels were originally written in Greek from 70 to 140 CE (Mark after the year 70, Luke about 110, Matthew about 130, and John no earlier than 140 CE). This proves that they were not written by Christ's apostles, disciples or by any of the early Christians. Others say: “There is no proof of the Gospels existing before 130 CE”. Jesus is depicted as hugely popular in the gospels. Yet he is unrecorded by non-Biblical historians. Paul was the first one to write about Jesus around 60CE; but he, like everyone else, never saw Jesus. He experienced a vision of the resurrected Jesus. John Gresham Machen wrote: The establishment of Christianity as a world religion, to almost as great an extent as any great historical movement can be ascribed to one man, was the work of Paul. I also read that the history of the first three popes was invented because they never existed. All myth! Seek the truth!

Jesus clearly stated in the Gospel of Matthew that He would return in the same generation that crucified Him. And yet, no such miraculous return, on the clouds of glory, has been recorded in the nearly 2000 years since Matthew was written.

I think my old Bible teacher would say; these are only extraordinary claims for a human, not for God. If Jesus was God, then these are quite ordinary claims, and require no extraordinary evidence. Didn't really work for me in the end, but if you have a believers mindset it sounds compelling. If you already believe Jesus was the Logos of John chapter 1, then he is the creator of the Universe and any Earthly miracle he preforms is a trifle.

George Carlin is my favorite comedian of all time because his humor was based on reality and things as they should really be seen and is extremely funny to this day. Religion is a control mechanism and those that cannot see that must like to be controlled i guess? This is an amazing video, full of useful information, but if only atheists and agnostics see it, the reason why it has been created is not fulfilled. We need to share it, especially where young people are going to see it and it can really make an impact. We should use it to comment on apologetics videos, websites and so on, where people looking for answers can see it and understand also the "other" point of view.

I always wonder when people say that the gospel writers were copying Philo/Pliny/Josephus instead of taking the Occam’s razor obvious route that the gospel writers WERE Josephus, Pliny, Lucius which they quite obviously were. Or at least the people really behind these Pen names.

We understand what she says but it does not make a impact on someone whose lifestyle has been conditioned around identifications and attachmetns to delusions. There is no point in explaining logic and science to someone who does not value science/logic or values their beliefs more than science/logic.

henochparks Your comment is a logical fallacy itself. Philosophy (or Religious philosophy) and logic are not synonyms. Just because some idea is philosophical does not necessarily make it logical. Also, even if you attempt to apply logic to reasoning based upon supernatural beliefs (premises ) it does not make the premises factual and based on evidence. There is no evidence for any supernatural beliefs. Religiously philosophical or not. Its that simple, really. There is no point in explaining logic and concept of evidence to someone who does not value these concepts or value them less than his/her lifestyle attachments/identities and cognition deriving from, and revolving around beliefs (wanting something to be true without evidence).
@PjotrII

+Extreme Kaos Your logical fallacy is that you claim that religious people do not value science/logic. Secondly many issues are not of mathematical nature (true or false). When the woman in the video says there are different stories (or details in them) she is totally right. In a simplified, none educated, low scientific logical result one can say that the story isn´t true due to that fact. But what does science actually say? Police investigators KNOW by scientific study that people forget and add details to their stories without lying (that´s how the brain works). I made a simple study that even you can do... I showed students a video about a car accident... I then talked other stuff with them for 5 minutes, and then made a survey of what they had seen in the car accident film. The majority of the students remembered one or more details wrong, like time of day, car color, number of cars in accident, description of the surroundings... and this was 5 minutes after they saw the event. Now if someone interviews these teens (or biblical figures, let´s say 3 or 7 years later) can anyone demand that they would remember ALL the details exactly? NO, not scientifically. Instead, if all the stories were EXACTLY a copy of each other with all details in place (in the bible), one would suggest that they either are copied from ONE external source alone, or copies of each others... making the claim LESS believable. Now we seem to have true stories from several sources, in the actual fact that the stories do differ. Logically this would mean that there is a TRUE CORE in the story, while details may be remembered falsely.

+PjotrII If someone values science more than their personal beliefs, then they would be able to effectively apply scientific method to your own thought process not just your trained professional skill. Therefore they would come to logical conclusion that there are no gods or superstitions due to lack of evidence of any kind. If someone that something is true without evidence (beliefs) , then logically they failed to apply scientific method to their own cognition. If someone is a religious person and also performs some scientific tasks then they are simply categorical thinkers performing trained skill. They are not proper scientists if they are unable or unwilling to apply scientific method to their own cognition. I would call them semi-scientists. There are plenty of them. Christian semi-scientisis, Muslim semi-scientists, Mormon semi-scientists (Jewish, New Age, Truther etc), and so on. About the rest of your comment, I will skip replying, as nowhere in my comments I refered to any of these. I recommend YT video called "Scientific Method Made Easy".
