As a reminder, I'm not talking about all cis straight people when I say 'The Straights', and actually not all of these were terrible..but some really were haha.

Completely understand the sentiment of your statement (bc cheating can happen to and from anyone, and I've def gotten cheated on by someone who was/is a huge nerd and anime fan), but in this case iirc the tiktoker and bf are actually pretty sweet so just going based on that in this instance I think she was saying that her bf has hobbies that he's clearly comfortable with sharing them with her (iirc they're both star wars fans too). I really don't think it was exploitive. However, I've definitely seen degrading versions of this tiktok and it's very upsetting.

@jasper3706
@jasper3706 3 жыл бұрын
@@mavisseafoam I think generally the difference you're thinking about is the adjective vs the noun! Female is more often used as an adjective, whereas the noun form is almost exclusively used either in science or by sexists, because "woman" is universally preferred by most people. The noun form of "female" often feels clunky in this context, and you're left sort of looking for a noun (person or human) that isn't present. Edit: Also, outside of science, female (adj) is generally "of or pertaining to *women*" and the correct noun form for like 99% of sentences would be woman, not female. For example, "female sports" is "sports for women," "female washrooms" are "the women's room," etc. etc. So when somebody uses the noun female, they're going out of their way to not use the term woman, and we instinctively question their motives. Like calling a burger "sustenance." Yeah, it's technically true... but why aren't you calling it food?

"Females" is used most when talking about animals from what I see. Like in biology class we might talk about female specimens of like, rats or something, so it feels very icky to use if for people. Also, no one says "I need some males in my life", so if makes it even more icky that only women are talked about in non-human terms (in this situation).

I ways assumed they were either implying women aren't human OR avoiding using terms with age connotations like "woman" or "girl" because they don't want to discuss their possible preference for underage partners. I've never met a "females" dude who expressed a consistent desire to date women over 18, no matter how old he happened to be. What makes me even less comfortable is the age of these people. This joke was considered prime humor in the 1970s and 80s. @@TheGreatBackUpVIDEOS Because the "reasoning" (=drawing conclusion according to valid principles) itself doesn't say anything about the validity of the premises. The moon is made out of frozen lemonade. So, the moon is pink." This is absolutely valid, flawless logic, even if being absolute bullshit at the same time, because the premises are wrong. Only because something is "logic" doesn't mean it says anything true about our world. Logic isn't truth. It can be, if the premises are true (which, in the cases that we talk about, aren't). But "logic" in itself doesn't say anything about the applicability of the conclusions to our world. In regards to that “females”-related topic, I’ve always seen that any man who used that specific language, when not talking about anatomy or animals, it is always in a weird sort of possessive way. Like I’ve heard cis men talking about how “females like so-and-so” in regards to sex or sexual pursuits. It’s always been used in demeaning and dehumanizing ways. I’m always suspicious when I hear men talk like that-it’s a clear indication of what sort of personality they have

fun "some straights are ok" story: my parents were once at a bar together and my dad went up to the bar to get them drinks. a woman complimented his star trek shirt, and started pretty obviously flirting with him. he had no idea she was flirting (hes kinda clueless with social things) and just started talking about how he had a full spock costume at home 🤣 anyway theyve been married for like 30 years and are still happy together :)

Fun fact: (it happened to me today) being trans and lesbian I would technically be a man that’s still likes women so I would be “straight” But someone said, if you’re gay as a woman you’re gay as a man. Tf- if I was a woman that liked other women, If I switch I’m not automatically gay. I like women still.

Never understood the "crazy lady wants a wedding or else". I know a TON of couples deciding not to marry or have a wedding. Why the obsession? What is marriage changing in your life?
@thatbitchnoemie

Right ? Like personally even if I stay with the same person for 30 years I still don't want to get married. To me it's just an expensive piece of paper that complicates everything. TO ME. Doesn't mean I have a right to criticize anyone who wants to get married. I wish we could just let everybody do whatever the hell they want.
@trishapellis
@trishapellis 3 жыл бұрын
Marriage is useful in a few situations. First off, in some places you get tax benefits, and inheritances are easier to manage when there's a wedding contract in play (which makes it kinda hard to see those women who die-hard want a wedding and not wonder if it's about the money, though I know that's not true in all cases). Secondly, if there are children, if there's no marriage involved some other document may need to be made to make sure they inherit the father's inheritance. That may sound nitpicky but the last thing you want to so during your SO's funeral planning is also fight his family over the inheritance. Thirdly, though this is a minority of cases, if both partners are from different countries and may need special Visas to be able to visit or live somewhere. My husband and I have both been legally living in Spain for years but when we went to Sweden or something he had to bring his Schengen Visa until after we were married. (They still spent over an hour looking into it before they told us we could go in, but yeah. If you think America is hard to get into, Europe's not far behind. Bring that passport when crossing borders inside the Schengen zone.) But I'm with you on marriage not being necessary at all.
